Are GarageBand Loops Worth Drumming To? In this video I put GarageBand Loops to the test to see if they are worth using to make music as a drummer. If you only play drums but want to right "original" music might have considered loops and samples but its not always easy to find things that work together. GarageBand has pre made loops that might just work. Let's find out!

    I use Heartbeat cymbals and have used in contemporary music as well as gospel style music. I use 20 inch Custom crash, 22 Studio crash, 15 inch custom hats, 10 inch studio splash, smack stack, and a 24 inch Custom Dry ride. I also have a 24 inch Custom ride that is heavier to allow me the option for using the bell of the ride more for that gospel style music. I even crash on it some.

    I never understand the concept about "Worship Cymbals". I think it's just a marketing term as "Worship Cymbals" are just like any other cymbals I think that are out there. Personally, I'm still a fan of Zildjian Custom A cymbals because I think they are the most "musical" of cymbals. Bright, cutting through the mix without hanging around all day. Quick, fast, bright, musical.But I'm actually playing Sabian HHX and AAX cymbals with a Zildjian K dark dry ride. And gotta say Sabian does make nice cymbals. This is the first time to not play Zildjian custom A cymbals, and the Sabien cymbals sound pretty good too. I think I like the AAX cymbals the best. B20 bronze only way to go!

    If instagram drum clips is what you mean by contemporary music, then yes they’re not that in vogue. But 16” have their place when you’re sharing the sonic space with, you know, other instruments. A good crash can be quick, bright, not complex. But I deffo would say: Sabian cymbals ‘suck’.

    I like having a 16" for a low volume rock or pop situation, as I feel like I can still play it quite naturally without the volume getting out of control. That's kind of it for me though - I'll use either a 17" and an 18", or two 18" for pretty much everything else.

  • @GudmundurKristjansson

    Well I guess it can also depend on how big your Ride cymbal is, well in my case it's a 19" Zildjian Sweet Ride, and with it I took to have on my left side (hihat side) another Zildjian 18" Medium Crash. And then at last I bought me the CRASH Cymbal and that was naturally a Zildijan 18" (like you said) Thin Crash. But as soon as I put it up on my right side over my beautiful Yamaha floor toms 14 & 16" they basically sounded the same :( Well what had happened in the mean while I went and saw the great Peter Erskitin play here in Iceland with Jakob Magnusson and after the concert I went up on the state to take a better look what Cymbals mr. Erskertin was using (since all of them sounded to good and especially his Craser! and guess what it was? A 16 inch Zildjian Sweet Crash!And on Monday morning I took my Think A Crash and swapped it for that K Sweet Crash and there I heard and fellt the right tone! But that's just mine view on Crash cymbals @ the age of 70 (LoL) and still love's to bang my drums and punch the Cymbals

HARDER ,one tip is not to have your heavy metal bass drum sound like an electric Simmons bass drum,to many metal drummers have the worst sounding bass drums etc SOUNDING THIN and the worst clicking sound ever with no body listeni to cozy Powell's bass drum sound he had the best double bass drum sound all the bass drum sounds from the 70 s were the best,if it's not broken you can't fix it ,what's the point of making the biggest drum in your drum set sound like the smallest,if you get good bass drum sound your cymbals,no matter what they're size is will make a massive difference.❤️🧡💜💛❤️🧡💜🌞🌜🌟🌎🙏🌸🌼🌴🌳☺️💕

    I like my crashes to be rich, and full sounding. My Sabian 18" HHX Complex Thin Crash (that's a real mouthful to say) is perfect, especially for my more minimalistic setups. I also have a 19" AAX Thin Crash that's really great too. I think it really depends on how the cymbal is made, the thing those two crashes have in common in that the bells are unlathed, so it gives them a bit more aggression without having to be so thick that you need to really lay into it to get a decent sound out of it.

      No, my advice is to buy an 18 crash as your first upgrade because it will fit with more styles of music. I am trying help people make decisions that lead them to a specific sound that they are looking for. If I'm trying to find a sound on a record that is fairly current and I want to achieve it, most likely it is a bigger cymbal because that is what people are using. If you love a 16 then that's what you should use for your personal projects.

    It’s all in context of the music - gonna want a Paiste 2002 (bright/loud) cymbal if you’re trying to cut through the mix of Iron Maiden sound levels. Not going to want that 2002 if you’re playing small combo jazz. But there’s outliers, most legendary jazzers played very thin, washy dark cymbals. But Joe Morello played a brighter Zildjian A & Paiste 602 in Dave Brubek Quartet. And it was perfect under his hands. I played countless gigs with a Darker ride, hats, large dark crash and then a 17” Paiste signature fast crash, which is much brighter than the other cymbals. And it worked well. Had a little high end accent. I also played a 2002 flat ride & 22” K con and I used them to contrast sections . But it’s so matter of taste when you know what works and what doesn’t. HHX crash sounds so good here too! 😮

  • @titanu9188
    @titanu9188 Před 2 měsíci

    Ah yes, the "current sound" trap. As you get older, you figure out that none of that matters. I can play gospel and CCM with 13" hats and 14" crash with an 18" ride. And it sounds fine. The bigger = better guys always sound like they are compensating for something...

    • @drew_the_drummer
      @drew_the_drummer Před 2 měsíci

      It's not a bigger is better situation or a grass is greener on the other side. You can play whatever cymbals you want, but... if you are chasing a specific sound that you are hearing in current music, then you are most likely hearing bigger cymbals. I'm just informing people to help them find out what cymbals to buy if they are chasing a sound or want something that will last them a long time.

    So I’m not in a band and haven’t ever played live or in a studio, but I’m very picky about cymbals. For some background, I play mainly classic rock, pop, metal, some country now and again, rap and a few other genres. I’ve never been a fan of thin and dark cymbals, I play decently hard and have broken thinner cymbals, partly because I used to use bad technique as well. I find that medium-heavy weighted cymbals are truly a perfect middle ground for all applications, at least in my opinion. But I do love bright and heavy cymbals a whole lot, not extremely heavy and loud like RUDE cymbals, but more like Sabian AA cymbals. I mainly play pop and classic rock as of late, and I think brighter cymbals work better there, in my opinion. Dark cymbals just aren’t my thing, but some of them sound absolutely great.
