      The main risk through early October is that it is monsoon season. Because of burn scars, certain areas can flood for a few hours at a time, but emergency alerts do a good job of getting you info early! Semper Fi! I was a Corpsman for 5 years, GTMO, Norfolk, Gulf of Arabia aboard the Carrier Truman, deeply respect the Marines and especially Mustangs! Yeah honestly I'm a newbie when it comes to audio, appreciate the feedback, will try to balance better for the next ones. Are you talking about how "Anasazi" has been replaced by Ancestral Puebloan? I'm 20% Pueblo, it's interesting but the whole thing could be a mistranslation- Anasazi could have meant ancient ones, not ancient enemies. I don't believe the cliff dwellers were war like

    • @usmcmustang2972
      @usmcmustang2972 Před 13 dny

      @@adventuresena64 I write Anasazi as it is pronounced in Navajo. (Dine') .. Anaa = war Sa a Zi I believe is "enemy"... "Anaasazi" means "Ancient Enemy" in Navajo .. You can check that through the English - Navajo Dictionary online .. But the Cliff Dwellers were NOT the Anasazi... They were just the "cliff dwellers" to the Navajo, from which I gain my information... I have adopted the Navajo oral history, simply because the PHYSICAL evidence of many sites that they DID inhabit (proven by their pottery) and tools and dna testing of their remains, falls into line with the oral history... Even though the testing evidence is twisted into the pre conceived narrative of the college crowd and those who have never considered why many of the structures were torn down on purpose and all of the belongings were smashed, burned and left.. Neither do they consider the genetic differences of the bones and remains left at Canyon de Chely as being the remains of slaves being cannabalized as well as being fed too other slaves. I believe that evidence shows there, that many slaves choose death over consuming human flesh... and this required the Anasazi to aquire new slave groups from other regions... which reflects in the actual different rock laying methods of the construction of the site as is obvious on close inspection, the archaeological evidence ( misinterpreted) and Dine' oral history. Either way, it is obvious that something devastating happened between 700 to 900 years ago, that caused many people in the entire South West to seek refuge into many isolated areas and not only that, but into many extremely inaccessible and defensible places within those same areas. I just trust the oral history and the integrity of those who are trusted with it, much more than I do with some eggheads with agendas and narratives of fantasia and lack of ability to envision reality of life at these times. SEMPER FI 👍

    • @usmcmustang2972
      @usmcmustang2972 Před 13 dny

      What I am trying to relate, is that the Navajo, came about the same time that the Anasazi did or just a little before, and find the Puebloans as they are to this day. And they also find many other bands, including the Anasazi who came from the south. But grew weary of the slavery, murder and cannibalization by the Anasazi. So they conspired to destroy them. Which they did, down to the last infant and all of their things and homes. I believe that. Especially because science says "what happened to them?" Archaeology KNOWS that they just disappeared.

    • @adventuresena64
      @adventuresena64 Před 13 dny

      Damn you really do your research! I do follow Wally Brown the Marine and Navajo Elder historian, he often talks about this huge misconception and how the actual Anasazi were invaders from the south- it’s a shame the textbooks aren’t likely to catch up any time soon!

      Fascinating! I love to look into ancient religions and lore passed down through generations, it is a true mystery whether they were forced or just preferred the cliff dwelling lifestyle, from my understanding.

    • @usmcmustang2972
      @usmcmustang2972 Před 14 dny

      The local Navajo oral history says that they were living peacefully in the Mesa Verde, until the Ana' Sa a' Zi, who came up from the south about 900 years ago, raided them and took them into slavery and cannabalized them... Then, at some point, about 700 years ago, the Dine' banded together with other clans and tribes and completely wiped out the people they call the Ana' Sa a' Zi.. Modern archaeology had always misinterpreted these places as being Anaszi dwellings. But they were not. Chaco Canyon and Canyon de Chelly were supposedly Ana' Sa a' Zi, according to the Dine' (The People), as well as other smaller settlements where towers are built without windows, to house slaves. This is also what caused the influx of cliff dwellings for safety, which most date from tree ring dating to about 1200 to 1400 AD.. And is about the same time that the Dine' entered the area and began trading and gathering smaller bands into their tribes, such as the "Fremont" Indians... and many cliff dwelling people. Many of the open ground pit houses and rock structures have been credited to the newly fabricated "ancestral pueblo" .. which is also just a catchy name and a disastrous misnomer... Because the Puebloans themselves deny this is the case. As well, the Dine' claim that the Puebloans were here long ago, before either the Navajo or the Anasazi. But the cliff dwellers were people trying to escape the Anasazi.

      @@adventuresena64 I constantly tell people about the story where you thought you killed the chihuahua by sleeping on it only for it to raise its little head and wake up yawning after the best sleep it ever had

    Movie fact. That Carruthers Restaurant use to be "Owl Drug". During the filming of Kindergarten Cop the bad guy goes into a store to buy his son a toy so he would not be showing up empty handed. That store was Owl Drug. Also a fun fact @5:40 is the only Astoria "beach".

    • @adventuresena64
      @adventuresena64 Před 3 měsíci

      That’s funny! I’ll need to rewatch Kindergarten Cop 👮 Now that you mention it that tiny spit under the bridge is the only sandy patch on the whole waterfront!

    Really awesome video. You mentioned the Astoria Column is one 1 of 12. Do you happen to know where they other 11 are erected? I can't seem to find that information.

    • @adventuresena64
      @adventuresena64 Před 3 měsíci

      Wow- great question! So I read this info at the Astoria column on a plaque, but it’s possible the other 11 weren’t necessarily columns but different memorials. Here’s what I read “This was the “crowing monument” out of 12 other historical markers spanning from St. Paul, Minnesota to Astoria, Oregon.”
