    to keep warmer, the thin air mattress pads are made to absorb the cold from the bottom. also in the past i have seen people take tarps, even heavy blankets and put them under the rain trap. you can keep the buddy heater on all night, also a tent ceiling fan will help push and circulate the warm air.

    • @adventureawakes

      Still got to be careful with those heaters though, even the ones that are supposed to shut off when there's too much C02. There was some ice fisherman on YT who had their's on and the girl with them noticed she was getting very tired and shouldn't be, turns out the heater never shut off like it should have and their tent was full of C02. Luckily she noticed it.

      Thanks for watching our video! I appreciate the feedback. We don't sell our syrup, and only use it for ourselves or gifting. Galvanized buckets have been used for many years, and I really like the look of them! But if we ever need to replace any, I will keep that in mind and look into stainless steel. We purchased these buckets about 10 years ago from a local sugarmaker.

    If you are seeing this comment then you are about to be in some serious good luck for your snow cave because I can make it so that starting from the spring it can last the whole entire summer, and into fall until the next winter starts and I will show you how it’s done. So all you need to do is add 7 layers of UV protection, white tarp to cover the snow cave and then secure it so that the wind from the outside doesn’t blow inside the covers and then it blows the covers away somewhere else. Then next make sure your snow cave is icy from the beginning by adding plenty of water to make the structure of the snow solid so it can last even longer automatically. And then last, but not least make sure your snow cave from the inside is at below freezing temperatures before covering the snow cave with the white tarps. You should also try to get a thermometer and put it in your snow cave so you can see at the end of the year what the temperature results is and that it is still remaining around the freezing mark the whole time inside. I have experienced it with even just 2 UV protection, white tarp on my snow house and it dealt with plenty of 17°C/62°F weather days for a good while without it shrinking or collapsing. When it comes in the winter all you really need is 2 UV protection white tarps to have a 100% chance of your snow cave to be surviving the whole entire winter whenever the warm winter days passes by and even when all the rainy days passes by too. So I highly definitely recommend you to do this idea if you really want to make the snow cave last for a very long time. You can start off by adding 2 UV protection white tarp and you will be totally fine for it to last the whole entire winter if it was a record, warm winter let’s say, for example. So that’s how powerful the white tarp is for protecting snow shelters from melting. And the real reason why you would want your tarp to be white colour is because white, does not absorb the heat, but it rather reflects the daylight heat instead. And whenever the colder days make a come back for you, that is when you are good to take off the white tarps covers and enjoy the snow cave. Thank you 😊.

    • @adventureawakes
      @adventureawakes Před 2 měsíci

      The white tarp is the answer for many UV applications! Use it at a beach for sun protection. Cover your house with it to keep your paint from fading. Make sure to put it over you home's windows to protect your furniture and artwork from fading, too.

    • @Clouds-su3dc
      @Clouds-su3dc Před 2 měsíci

      Yup I know that, but you know ever it comes to the thought, of trying it on the snow cave to drastically save it to keeping your snow cave from melting, it can get very exciting. It is definitely worth a try if I were you. I would highly recommend to use 2 of them though because if you were to use 1 white tarp, somewhat of the sunlights heat can still make it through underneath so that’s why I say use 2 of them so it fully blocks out the suns UV rays heat from entering in completely and that it also acts like another layer to trap the cold air that is inside and to keep the heat from entering in outside. 👍

    • @adventureawakes
      @adventureawakes Před 3 měsíci

      Hi Stephen, sorry for the late reply. I'm not completely sure what our boil rate is. I would guess probably around 5 gallons of sap/hour. But several factors come into play since we boil in the open air (temperature, wind, keeping the fire hot, etc...) The kids just tapped about 10 trees this past weekend, and collected about 8 gallons of sap, which we boiled on the stovetop in the house. We plan to tap more trees in the coming weeks, so hopefully we will be able to fire the evaporator soon!

      That's great! We made around 3 gallons from our 20-25 taps. This year seemed a little off for us.

      You should give it a try sometime! Some people collect a couple gallons of sap and then boil it on the stove in their kitchen. 5 gallons of sap should make about 1 pint of maple syrup, depending on the sugar content. It also might make your wallpaper peel!
