I am Pattonkesselring. You're watching the show where a huge nerd rambles on about Sci-Fi, History, Anime, etc, basically whatever I decide to do. I am not here because I want to make money, or become famous or any of that, I am just a simple guy who wants to share his passions with the world, because if I wasn't passionate about something, I wouldn't be making a video about it.

Truly this video is valuable training.
Vought? Designed by WW2 German scientist? It's time to call Butcher! 😏
"Foot/pounds" is a measurement of torque, not thrust. Simple pounds are the proper phrase.
Thanks, I’ll get it right next time 😁
Love this!
Aww thanks so much
That's bullshit, the picture on this, is not a Alaskan vessel, it was the largest shrimp boat at the time in Bonsecoue Alabama
Pretty sure that’s the boat, but if you have a picture of it let me know.
Incorrect. The boat shown here is the Big Valley. She was a Gulf coast shrimper in the mid 70's (not sure where) and brought to Homer around 1977 to fish crab and shrimp. Last time I saw her was at King Cove in 1989.
@@denali9449 didn’t know she used to be a shrimper but now that you say it I can see it in her hull and house style, I assume she has had some modifications, with a new house built on the old one
@@pattonkesselring4247 She came up during the mad rush for crab in the late 70's. Guys were buying anything that floated to try and make a buck and the Gulf boats were cheap as well as readily available. The original wheelhouse was removed in the mid/late 80's and that monstrosity of a wheelhouse was added. That deckhouse was added later as she was also leased out as a research vessel. I heard they also installed a hot tub and a sauna but cannot testify to that. You can still see the rigging for the double-rigged shrimp trawls in her mast.
@@denali9449 yeah when you point that out I can see the setup for the rigging. That’s crazy! Also explains the low number of pots, 30 isn’t really enough to properly fish alaskan crab, it’s enough for like 1 string, even 50, which is overloaded for her, is like 2 strings at best maybe 3 short ones.
For a thorough technical dissertation on the operation of various valve-gears, visit you local library and get hold of a stack of "Model Engineer" magazines commencing with issue # 4718, Volume 230, 2nd June to 15th June. Author, Duncan Webster commences a multi-part series on a technically immersive description of just about every form and manner of steam-engine valve-gear known to man.
In the beginning of your video you say it was carrying a captain and five deck hands but they were never seen again…..except the one survivor…and recovered bodies…. Would have been a great video if the information was correct.
True true, sorry about that.
Nice
This is by far one of the best Code Geass AMVs I ever watched in my entire life.
Might want to build on this guy’s channel: youtube.com/@_Nordy_?si=KaLHTvC5ZdMGVH2k My point is that you share your ideas on how to make a fully functional unit & such.
God Bless your Soul Carlos Rivero 😢
How did the F-11 Tiger 🐯 & the F-8 Crusader fare as Navy fighters ? They were supersonic, weren’t they ?
its quite sad to see these ships all sunk. and that those Souls have been stuck in those ships for many Years, and Decades. i wish my greatest honours to ALL of them who had lost their lives.
You cant smoke on the boardwalk anymore screw ocean city not to mention the racism
Well, I didn’t know that. Thanks for the update. I always went to Myrtle beach anyway
If your mansplaining "analysis" of this plane is a reason to judge it, I would say it was probably a great plane aerodynamically, which in fact it was.
It was, it was just a handful to fly
I don't care what anybody says. That thing looked great. All the other problems were clearly real. But I don't agree that it was particularly ugly. Kinda reminds me of some of the space fighter designs in Wing Commander. Maybe that's just me.
It’s growing on me.
Ah yes the Silverhand, I recognise it from a mile away
you can lower the chance of those awkward breathing sections showing up by moving away from the microphone
Thanks, I try to cut them out, sadly I don’t have a mic, it’s my laptop mic, I’ll try to make that better though, thanks for the advice
Love your style.
You’re very kind
Probably, the US navy in the post civil war to Spanish American war goes through an interesting set of phases
Great map! Thanks for sharing.
Found out this video and in it: Someone using reason to compare classes of ships, not doing top trumps and acknowledge the existance of Brazil! Son of a B I'm in!
Thanks so much! I really appreciate it
"Furthermore, the ones with the J36 suffered a rather catastrophic flaw as the engine would flame out completely in the presence of rain." (Beat. Crickets chirp, a tumbleweed rolls by. Some passing crows call us idiots.) " ... wut."
Yeah that didn’t make a ton of sense, sorry, I’m working on getting my writing for scripts to be better.
@@pattonkesselring4247 Nah, that's cool. Your writing wasn't the problem ... your subject was. A warplane that FLAMES OUT IN THE RAIN?!? HOW DID THE U.S. NAVY COME TO BUY THIS TURKEY ANYWAY?!?
Enjoyable story- especaillly the slight of hand with a monitor type vessel magicly morphing into something else
Noice
Thanks
Akiza's Bloody Kiss was sadly a late addition to the cast in the later seasons. Real shock is how well she adapted to Turbo Duels. But she was underutilized in my opinion. As she was benched in the hospital after her first Grand Prix duel. And only got a few more in before the series final. But ever moment was as awesome as the girl herself. As fot Leo and Luna, I personally wish we got more of Luna dueling, as she only got 3 or 4 throughout the entire series. Only 1, maybe 2, of which could be called a win.
This was a classic case of the aircraft being ready before the engine(s). This would have been a wonderful aircraft if it had the thrust it needed.
That is basically hitting the nail on the head right there
flying coffin-- designed by nazis--underpowered, over weight and unreliable--
Can you talk about Operation Northwoods?
I can, not sure when but I can indeed
I'm just gonna say this Classic CIA.@@pattonkesselring4247
Cool video. Do you still use Wattpad?
Hey, I haven't been on there in a while but it is still active, been writing a lot for grad school so writing for leisure isn't really a priority, but I do still use it.
Not enough power, typical of many 1950s jets. There was a cutlass at Wheaton regional park near Washington D.C. back in the 60s when I was a little kid. A lot of fun climbing into the cockpit and into the air intakes.
A very common problem on jet fighters of the period, shame the F7U never got to shine, it’s quite interesting in a quirky way

Amazing video hope to see more Where could I find the video logs by the deck hand?
I am not sure where that would be in full, but the first season of Deadliest Catch features clips from them, specifically of the Rosie G and American Star.
Good video
Why thank you very much I appreciate it. Thanks for watching.
Interestingly, among those pilots not killed by the Cutlass, the vast majority loved it and thought it was great fun to fly. The bulk of the problems were the unreliable engines and the experimental hydraulic system and it's inconsistent back up. One test pilot who flew the Cutlass in the Blue Angels as well stated that he had the most time as a passenger in a single seat aircraft, because when the hydraulic system failed it took 14 seconds for the back up to kick in.
The CZcams algorithm gods have guided me
Same
Without the Cutlass, American cars of the 1950s and 60s wouldn’t have had tail fins. A car designer saw a Cutlass at an air show and it took a decade for the industry to get over them.
I didn’t know that, very cool, thanks
It's almost as bad as the Osprey
This thing is what the US would have sent up against ships like HMS Devastation?
The same company previously built the XF5U "Flying Flapjack" that buy the time it was completed, they di8dn't even bother to try flying it. Then came the jet powered XF6U "Pirate" that was little faster than the piston powered Corsair. Then, the F7U-3 described here. Over 25% were destroyed in accidents. If the F8U Crusader were not a winner, things could have been very bleak for Vought. The A-7 Corsair II was also a winner.
Tongue clicks are distracting.
Sorry
Small note about the Cutlass in Pennsylvania: I went to The Wings of Freedom Museum in October of 2022 and the Cutlass was not on display. I asked the staff about it and they said it was in storage awaiting repairs. I note that they didn't say it was scheduled for repairs. Probably means they don't have funding and the airframe is probably just in storage. The staff told me that they had a different plane being restored at the time.
What was the reason for the very long front landing gear?
Ok just heard the reason
The 'gutless ' Cutlass was the nickname I always heard it called. The ensign eliminator was the F4U Corsair
Oh, my bad. Though now I’m wondering about vought…
Best roll rate of any aircraft of the period. One test pilot used to say he held the record for the passenger time in a single seat aircraft, thats because if the hydraulics glitched, the control surfaces froze until the manual backup activated, 30 seconds later
I heard an interview with the pilot who said that. He claimed it was 11 seconds, not 30. Eleven is bad enough, but 30 would be catastrophic in flight.
Why all the metric numbers, and why didn’t you give a Mach number? And ft-lb is for torque, not thrust. What an idiotic statement. I quit listening.
Likes like Fisher Price made a Little People's F-15 Eagle.
The "Bad Omen" & Jinx of the USS Forrestal ???
Maybe, perhaps America’s unluckiest carrier
It wasn't really terrible, it was the engines that were terrible. The Cutlass was designed to use an engine that didn't go into production, so another engine was substituted that was much less powerful. That's sabotaged quite a few military aircraft in the past that had to be cancelled or went into production with unsuitable engines. It did have a couple of other problems with hydraulic system leaks and weak nose gears failing, but those were improved later. The basic tailless design was not a problem and many pilots said it flew beautifully aside from being under-powered. There's a Cutlass at a museum near me and it's a very interesting airplane. I believe somebody has been restoring one somewhere that eventually is supposed to be back in the air.
Hopefully with a better engine
