    Watakushi: An archaic, submissive way to refer to oneself. Usually done out of respect for a master or an elder by servants. Used by Yuzuru Ware: Very archaic way of speech dating back to the Kamakura period. Typically used by samurai. Used by Souma Sessha: An archaic way of speech often used among samurai and shinobi. Used by Shinobu Wagahai: An archaic term used by older, distinguished men (typically great masters or elders) towards their subordinates. Used by Rei Watashi: Basic, formal way of referring oneself. Often used by polite, calm, or formal characters. Used by Wataru, Mayoi, Nagisa, and Tsukasa Boku: Soft, humble way to refer to oneself. Mostly used by younger boys or naive characters. Used by Eichi, Tori, Makoto, Kanata, Hiyori, Hiiro, Hajime, and Natsume Jibun: A polite gender neutral term which means "myself". Often used in professional settings. Used by Ibara Washi: A gender neutral (though mostly used by women) term used by old people to their juniors. Used by Kohaku Atashi: A common, feminine term usually used by young women. Used by Arashi Ore: Common, but rough way to call oneself. Mostly used by older boys, but not in formal settings. Used by most of the characters Third person: A quirky way of calling oneself. Used by HiMERU and Sora (Outside of third person, the real HiMERU uses boku while the new one uses ore) Orecchi: A playful version of ore. Used by Rinne Ore-sama: A very crude and rough version of ore. People who use this are considered to be very arrogant, delinquent or boisterous. Used by Koga

      I noticed that for some of the characters, the spelling of the pronoun changed! Like Tori using katakana to sound even more obnoxious,,, I think? Do you have any insights as to how a pronoun changes depending if it’s spelled in kanji/hiragana/katakana?

    • @rezandrarizkyirianto-1933
      @rezandrarizkyirianto-1933 Před měsícem

      @@melozules Yeah I realized that too. It's mostly for quirkiness or character. For example, Kanata's words are written in hiragana, to express his slow way of speech. Souma uses a few extinct kanji here and there. Natsume ended every sentence with katakana, but I don't really understand how this translates to English. It's mostly just for written characterization I don't think pronouns change just because you wrote it differently. Whether you wrote it in hiragana, katakana, or latin, watashi is watashi. But I guess in written form some characterization can be found: Hiragana is the simplified text. People who only started to learn Japanese often start with hiragana People who writes in all hiragana is often considered to be childish or unsophisticated Katakana is a script used to transliterate foreign words into Japanese. You don't actually write in full katakana, but if you do, then that means you're using a lot of English words in your sentence.
