You are right, said wagon is a 6x4 Scammell S26 designed by engineers at Tolpits Lane as a replacement for the Crusader to cater for the lighter end of heavy haulage STGO, basically hauling big plant, Diggers ,Cat Dozers, Dumpers, and Piling Rigs. Scammells original Constructor is a big 6x6 tractor ,wagon with a Bedford 'O' Series cab,in the early 1950,s Pickfords bought Scammells new kid on the block fitting a custom coach built chariot body for their 6x6 Standard Constructors with a spacious crew cab, a vast improvement over the ex war department R100' Coffee Pot' Pioneers.

@@basiltaylor8910 Not quite, the Pioneers that Pickfords used were 80 tonners based on the 30 ton tank transport tractor with a heavier, lower geared walking beam rear final drive. The R100 gun tractor and SV1T/SV1S recovery shared the same lighter chassis.

@@mikeprzyrembel Ah right the Coffee Pots used were the heavier spec tank transporter tractor units modified by Pickfords to 80ton dual purpose ballast or artic tractors, most configured as ballast tractors. Regarding the rear bogie was it a more conventional walking beam set up with twin overhead worm drive axles, or Scammell,s unique mono bogie with a single worm axle driving all four wheels via oscillating gear cases, like a DAF Trado?.

@@mikeprzyrembel Thought so, Same bogie but beefed up with stronger half shafts , short ratio diff, and larger high floatation tyres. Regarding the gearbox , were the ratios shorter to cope with heavier loads like two dead Shermans or a knocked out Panther?.
