I have a black copper maran he runs Up to me dancing around he never has attacked me and has protected me from a rooster who attacked me and was trying to attack me again the problem is I don't trust him around my grandchildren or me at time's I have had chicken's for a year I'm not sure what to do with him any suggestions ♥️♥️♥️♥️
The ducks rule that roost!
Good info
Great advice. I see so many men try to show who’s boss, just to show what? Only makes thing worse. Kindness always pays off.
Yeah I have never seen someone tame a crazy rooster.
I grew up on a farm as oldest. All chores were mine, and have had best luck with flock raising from babies. Recently had to deal with very aggressive black rooster, (belonging to neighbor)and would try to run up on me from behind. I wasn't afraid of him, but got to point I was carrying broom around. He would literally see me across yard and come running at me, a got into batting position with broom. Rooster no longer with us.
lol I understand. I just won’t deal with an aggressive rooster. I don’t need them to be my friend and want me to pet them. But if they attack me any time I come close he has to go.
As a 6 ft 200 pound man, roosters don't mean anything to me. Guess I forgot being 4 years old, and having a rooster terrorize me. That old rooster would watch for me to come out of the house, and come running to spur my calves, and peck at my rear end as I ran away. Fortunately, I didn't have to deal with any aggressive roosters when my own children were young. Today, the smallest person around is my wife, and I guarantee that any rooster would only attack her once. You can't talk to Mama with a shotgun in her hands!! (Carole King - Smackwater Jack)
lol yeah my littlest one was all into the chickens until my Rhode Island Red rooster attacked. After that she wouldn’t go anywhere around him and every other rooster she would just waiting on them to make a move 😂. She never trusted them again.
I have a sweet rooster. Easy to handle
I hope my newest one will be nice. He is right now.
worst video
Sorry you think so.
Rude
Good thing is this is not the normal. But I appreciate all the comments even the ones I don’t agree with.
@@alizabrigman6341 rude🤣🤣
I like a fella that thinks like me. I also like to pick stuff up on the side of the road. Don't believe me. Ask my wife. Keep on keeping on my friend.
One man’s trash is another’s treasure. Story of my life.
Seramas are very sensitive and very small, even for silkies. They should be separate from larger chicks and need smaller crumble. I water my chick crumble down to help them eat. I would even put in a thermometer to make sure they are not too cold. I’ve only ever lost one. They are so different from ordinary chicks.
Yes they are pretty cool chicks. Think I may hatch some more this year.
Fix the floor of the coop before they break their legs. 🙄
I appreciate the comment but I have raised a lot of birds in this coop and never had a leg problem. The wide gaps on the far end are right below the perches. If I put boards there they would just be full of crap every morning.
I've got a black copper boy that was a stinking handful for a while. He was wanting to jump me anytime I got in striking distance. And he was the sweetest of them all when he was young before the hormones came along. Took a while but he has finally settled down and don't have any problems with him anymore. His big brother was a huge help with that too. Rooty is my number one. Very thoughtful and calculating bird. But he covered my back when Chester was being so bad and kept an eye on him and would jump him and kick his butt anytime he started to make a move on me. None of them like to be held or handled much at all but still spoiled none the less. Rooty is in my face all the time wanting treats and insists that I bite almonds in half before giving them to him. Gets pissed and may even bite me if I don't. lol Not often I test him. That honker will pull a blood blister in a hurry. lol He did hit me in the back one time. I yelled at him before turning to face him. Thought it was his little brother again but when I turned to face him he backed up looking hurt. I sure was when I realized who it was cause I instantly knew why he hit me. He was protecting a young bird I had just introduced to the flock and it was screaming like I was killing it when I picked it up. Felt bad for yelling at Rooty for doing his job. But we got past it and I'm more mindful he knows what I'm doing with any of the other birds he watches over. No issues like that since. Got my hands on some Blue Coppers this year. Man I'm enjoying those birdies a pile too. Sure nuff beautiful birds, same awesome characters. That's my goal with the Marans, to wind up with all three colors, Black, Blue and Splash. On the other side of the fence I've got Self blue Ameraucana's, Boy that's a whole nother ball of wax but another kind of awesome bird that's a joy to have around.
Well I just got another Black Copper Rooster fingers crossed that he has a good temperament. He is young right now but seems calm.
He'll be fine. They're awesome birds. Really not hateful by nature. Hand feeding treats to them goes a long ways even if they do just turn around and feed it to the girls. They seem to like it that way.
I'm on my third hatch with a broody! Haven't lost one chick and have 100% hatch rate. She's sitting on 7 right now. Had 2 broodies from my first Gen welsummers and this current broody is one that hatched last November
Yeah I worry sometimes about the young broody hens. Sometimes they jump off without warning 😂 the older ladies know what is going on.
Too funny 😂
Yeah she was hiding 😂
There is a new updated version of if that works very well
I have had good luck with most all the rite farm products that I have tried.
Your olive egger looks like my black star hen.
Yeah I am not sure exactly what she is a mix of. I am pretty sure the roaster was a black copper as that has been my go to rooster for the last several years. But I have had several different hens over the last few years. Production reds to cream leg bars.
I agree. Silkies are worth keeping just because it is so much easier than mucking around with incubators and stuff.
Yeah they have a much higher hatch rate than the incubators I have messed with.
My 2016 ford escape radio looks different :[
This is an escape se not sure if different trim level may change things.
Sorry about your roo. 🐔Glad your hens are safe. 😊
Thanks
Rooster is taking his time alone to get healed dont want to b get even bothered recouping from pain but owner has to do a welfare check now & den
Thanks
Sad untimely demise of rooster vry right track Mr u on to getting a new rooster so egg laying & not eating dem disciplined hens wont miss him longer gudluk on ur rooster hopping mission
Hoping we find the right one
I bet your rooster went down fighting. Doing his job. Good man. I hope you find just the right replacement. Thanks for sharing.
I bet he did.
Possums kill chickens?
For sure. They eat the eggs if available but if they are not roosted out of reach they will for sure eat chicken.
@@HolloHomestead Well thank you, I lost my whole flock a couple of years ago. I trapped a skunk, raccoon and a possum in or near my coop. I dispatched the skunk and the coon and relocated the possum. I would have relocated all of them but I was afraid that I was going to get bit or sprayed. I have started a new flock but my rooster passed away not sure why. I suspected Merks but not sure. S9 far the ladies are OK.
Nice little barn for your girls. We had an automatic door shut a chicken out. My husband noticed when he went to check on them before bed. Thank goodness nothing got to her. Sorry about your rooster.
Yeah the door I believe has saved the rest of them cause we were losing chickens left and right. They just got to make sure to keep the bed time schedule.
My silkie rooster was aggressive. 😂
I have never had an aggressive silkie 😂

How did you find a replacement for that thing you took out? What is it called again? It it an audio control module? And does it require programming after you plug it back in or is it plug and play like you did?
So I ordered it off eBay. It was used. From what I found they do not make them new anymore. But it was plug and play didn’t require any programming.
I had a white Americana that got killed by a hawk
It seems to me that the hawks did go for the lighter colored birds.
I was surprised to come across this video because I happen to have an order of 21 female and 2 male Black Copper Maran chicks that will be here un a couple days. Thanks for sharing your encouraging thoughts that go along with my hopes that I chose a good all-around breed to be the bulk of my flock. BTW, I had a Welsummer cock that was a holy terror and the Polish cocks I have now are useless, so glad to hear your recommendations about these boys.
Thanks for watching in my book you cannot go wrong with the black copper.
Nice!
Thanks
He seems alot more livly and alert.❤
He really does seem to be adapting to his new reality.
He has a strong will to live. I would let him enjoy his life!
that is great content~ have a ince day~;)
Thanks
My Black Copper Maran is my favorite too. She follows me around the house like a little penguin. She loves to cuddle and watch Matlock.

Perhaps Leghorns are kindlier.
Never had any leghorn roosters.
Thabks for the info. I dont have chickens yet, but hopefully this year so this kind of information is helpful
Good luck
I'm curious if an old cabinet style smoker would work also
I don’t see why not as long as it can hold the heat. The light bulbs don’t put out a ton of heat.
What impressed me is the effort you are putting on your channel. It's hard for we beginners, but you have tried to be consistent despite the poor views. I have just sub. One day I will be like you.
Thanks. It’s kind of a hobby just got a new camera so thinking of putting more energy into it this summer.
Glad your roo is doing better.
Thanks the jury is still out on him.
I love the little ladies enthusiasm.
Yes, she was the reason we launched our CZcams channel in the first place.
Ooooooo been thinkingn of one for a long time.
May be early to say yet but I think it’s gonna work out fairly decent. I had always put off buy one because I had looked at the much more expensive ones. I believe this one was $13.
We have heavy hawk predation here.I went to all black chickens. Australorps, Black jersey giants and Marans. I also put up white poultry netting, making a long narrow run to make it harder for hawks to dive in and get out. I bought a few crow decoys and owl decoys with the heads that move in the wind. I put them on the fence near the chicken run. Its been about 3 months since I changed the setup. So far so good.
I have wondered if this owls actually worked hopefully it stays that way.
Um, I watched all the way through the last bit and the chickens never pecked the wood block. How did you train them to peck at the block? I did build one of these myself and made several revisions to it, but I either ended up with no pellets in the little tray (as some designs online have) so no interest from the hens, or a great pile of pellets because every peck brought more pellets down.
As far as training them. I didn’t do anything other than this is the only food in the pen. I think that curious finally gets the best of one chicken and the others learn quickly. As far as wasted food goes you will still have some extra food laying around on the ground. What I have found is most of it get picked up later on. If you are getting to much food coming out at one time then you can either buy a smaller washer and glue it to the bottom or top of the hole to reduce the size. Every peck shouldn’t drop very much. Or you can use a bigger toggle bolt. The place I usually get pellets from the pellets are bigger then the ones at tractor supply for instance so the size could need adjusting. And another thought with the washer thing I had a mouse that was able to get up on the wooden block and chewed the hole bigger. The washer idea is another way to not throw the bucket away and stop the mouse that figured it out if you can’t raise it up any more.
why he so small tho
That is the world’s smallest chicken breed. Funny to watch.
yea its funny as shiz
araucana and sussex
When you said " n' I don't wanna deal with it" 😂😂😂 great video thanks for sharing!
lol sometimes it just nasty.
@@HolloHomestead lol agree! 😆
@@HolloHomestead Hello this is a bit random but i need some advice. my chick hatched, it's cord is still attched to the egg. What concerns be is there's bit of blood around the abdomin. Has my chick herniated? Is the blood normal? My chick is reactive, doesn't seem lethargic but again the blood worries me. I read you can snip the cord, but other people say let if fall off on it's own, but does this apply to to my situation seeing that there is blood? I've never delt with this before. Any information would be great thanks so much for sharing your video
Little blood is normal. But a baby chick doesn’t have that much blood to begin with. I would just allow it to dry up and fall off. Or at least wait a day or so to try and help remove it if it is keeping the chick from moving around. In my experience if the chick is bleeding out there is nothing you can do about it.
@HolloHomestead hi again! Great advice! The cord sent from being thick but after some time dried to the size of a strand of hair. My chick is not fine and healthy 😄 thanks so much for your reply!
Awesome design! Nice informative video without too much needless talking. Did it help against the mice?
Well I think the mice will always be there to one degree or another. But no more mouse poop in the feed. 😂
Metal washer might help
I hadn’t thought of that but I think it would.
