Not mentioned here is the actual inventor of the kind of machine you show here - and it's not Harrison.
Magnificent
The photo of the ship in drydock is of the first Princess Marguerite, as are the three black and white photos which show Queen Elizabeth aboard during the 1939 Royal Visit.
"he/they" geg, fuck outta here
Juan Francisco de la Bodega y Quadra was born in Lima-Peru.
Is there a model of her in the Vancouver Maritime Museum?
Just a small correction. Her hull was not strip planked, but carvel planked with edge-glued seams.
Thank you!
Can't help thinking that a Voice Pipe is simpler, and performs the same function . . . . .
Hi just watched your video my great grandfather was the captain and my grandfather was born on board the ship. I still own captain Thomas Mitchell's chest wich he had on board the ship 1:
Thanks so much for sharing!
Great video! By the way, is there a story regarding the small hole in the hull at around 0:49?
does anybody have Anya's social media? I need to DM her NOW
Whilst us po' folk jus use sword canes.
😂
The difference between sextants used by mariners and navigators is not due to the horizon moving around but rather that the natural horizon is not usually visible to aviators as it is for mariners. Aviators often are flying above the clouds or over land which does not present a smooth horizon as the sea presents to mariners. Hence the need to create an artificial horizon for aviators. Here using a bubble. I, too, am looking for a video demonstration of the bubble sextant in operation.
This is guaranteed to lower blood pressure.❤️ Thanks! I love how you rearranged footage to make it look like the Johnson Street Bridge raised for a baby harbour ferry! 😂
haha the transitions between shots made for some fun moments!
aww hell yeaaaaa

Do you have any fencing manuscripts ore records about the use of the Dirk in combat?
👍🏻🏴 A very famous ship.
Great job Naomi!
Great Information ! Thank you !
That is a most magnificent boatcloak
Bruh you just came from Reddit huh lol
Flasher aka "dodger" or " Ford Bumper". Luhr-Jensen makes them.
In medieval Europe these tusks were being traded from the Arctic circle and Western Europeans did not have any idea these came from a whale. So the legend of the mythical unicorn is believed to have started.
Most interesting, thank you.
I should add that there is a naval myth that the three white tapes on the blue jean collar represented Nelson's three great victories at sea. This is most likely a retro explanation and when the seaman's uniform was introduced into the Royal Navy in 1857, the three tapes were probably just chosen for the sake of appearance and standardization.
Thanks for sharing!
Nice job Gene!
Learned a ton, Gene! Thanks. Hope this is a series!
Thanks so much! We have a few more Maritime Moments with Gene coming up :)
Awesome uncle Bill!
I love it
thank u!! this rlly helped!!🌸
OMG, I love this!😂
I sailed on HMCS Rainbow from 1971 to 1974. Submariner
Nice piece!
Wonderful! Love learning these pieces of useful knowledge. Nicely edited too ;)
Beautifully shot interview!
Thank you. I wondered about the reference to a housewife in Hornblower and the Hotspur. It’s helpful to see and understand what C S Forester was referring to.
RIP to all those who made the ultimate sacrifice and went down with Galiano on October 30, 1918. May they never be forgotten.
Exceptional piece 🪵🦫 kinda wants to give us that “old money feel” 💰pricy asf but worth every🪙
Be curious to know where this is in Victoria? So cool!
That psychrometer is beautiful!
Factual error:
The guillotine was ADOPTED by France in the late 1700's, and named for the doctor who PROPOSED its use as a "humane" form of execution. The actual device was created MUCH earlier, with different names, such as "the Halifax Gibbet" and different blade configurations, like a crescent-shaped edge, instead of the angled one we're used to seeing
@@mikegrossberg8624 Thank you for the additional information on the history of apparatus!
I have one of those sextants at home. Can anyone recommend a video on how to use them?
Love it Rich! Thanks for sharing your expertise!
🙂 promosm
Very nice 👍
I always remember from reading about the days of sail how sailors would knock their biscuits on the table before biting into them, ostensibly to get the weevils to exit.
We do take for granted soft biscuits and a lack of weevils in our lunch!
@@MaritimeMuseumofBC we have definitely gotten soft. I'm not sure if I can live without a dishwasher. ;)
In Scotland 🏴 I grew up calling the Pneumatic version, the Poachers gun. Concealed and silent, perfect for Rabbit and Game Birds. 😁👍❤️🏴!
Read his book when I was a kid. Fantastic...
Amazing 🤩
I see that the original owner was lost at sea in 1918 at the age of 23 whilst commanding HM Submarine D-3 when she was accidentally sunk by bombs from a French airship.
Greath littel ship!! Sorry my English...
