Situational awareness (and/or "common sense") is not what it used to be. Driving in the rain with no lights on. Driving at night with no lights on. High beams on and they have no clue. The list goes on. When parents changed their parenting strategies to "my kid is a good kid and can do no wrong", they adopted a "my kid's good enough and doesn't need any more education" mindset ... and the deterioration began. A predictable and completely avoidable outcome.
