Eating Soup Dumplings for an Entire Day in NYC!
Eating soup dumplings in NYC for an entire day! We were so full by the end of this crawl.
I met up with my friend Yiming, a food ethnographer and fellow content creator, and took him to some of my favorite spots for soup dumplings. Here’s where we went!
Steam (📍470 6th Ave, New York, NY): I think Steam makes some of the best Xiao Long Bao I’ve ever had. Chef Sammy has been making soup dumplings for 50 years and each dumpling is made with precision and finesse. Each dumpling has 20 folds, has a delicate skin, and contains a lot of filling and wonderful broth. I highly suggest trying their sample combo - because every single soup dumpling here, is amazing.
Shanghai Time (📍273 W 38th St, New York, NY): This spot makes incredible pan-fried soup dumplings. Legitimately some of the best I’ve ever had. The dumplings are steamed, while pan-fried on the bottom and this gives you that amazing textural contrast. Plus - they are loaded with soup! We got their classic pork, crab and pork, and shrimp Sheng Jian Bao. Be careful when you eat these - it can be a splash zone.
The Bao (📍13 St Marks Pl, New York, NY): Yes, dessert xiao long bao exist in the form of chocolate-filled dumplings. These dumplings are also stuffed with banana so imagine a Nutella-Banana crepe in dumpling form!
Stay tuned for the long form video that’s dropping on Yiming’s page in the near future! #soupdumplings #nycfood #dumpling

This spot is legitimately GREAT! 👌 I waited a tad too long before eating my ice cream this time since I was making this video 😅
4 for 10????
Yep $4 for 10 of them
They look incredible!!
So good!
Plump dumps sounds a bit crappy lol jk
😂😂😂
💯💯💯
🤘 Ty!!
bro its dinner not shitter 🤡🤣
Nice in concept, outrageous in price. I get it from the business perspective, given that it's an expensive enterprise they have going on, but as a consumer, absolutely no way. It's crazy to think people have enough money for this to be an option, but i get that the content creation pays for itself sort of.
Yeah, they kind of have to price this way due to the level of effort going into their model. $195 for 13-14 courses js essentially omakase pricing. Most spots I visit aren’t in this price point! But was curious to see what the experience was like
@@hungryartistny I think that's why people are thinking it's crazy bougie, but I don't think they are realizing this isn't meant to be a fast food place that people frequent and that it's meant to be exploratory. I don't know.
@@nyanSynxPHOENIX yeah, what you’re saying totally makes sense
Looks disgusting
Well, these food looks very unique. What was your favorite dish?
Favorite dish is shown in part two!
Milt - google it 😂
Aww helll naw. I went to a place like this in Los Angeles called Meteora for my friends birthday and while I enjoyed my time and the atmosphere was cool, I payed 600 for 2 people!!!! IT WAS A HELL NAW AND NEVER AGAIN FROM ME. 🥂
Damn, that place has a crazy ambiance - just looked it up. Did ya’ll do drinks for it to come out to be $600?
For context - the owner in the video is a born and raised New Yorker. He devotes his restaurant to foraged and locally sourced ingredients. It’s a unique concept so I went to check it out! This is not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but I personally enjoyed my experience.
😂 he cooked a pinecone and put sauce on it
Haha he foraged pinecones and glazed them with syrup he tapped from maple trees. Safe to say this was my first time having a pinecone
Tacos from a foodtruck are alot cheaper and most likely going to taste way better. Actual food. F this hipster crap
Fair for it to not be for you. I love tacos from a food truck as much as the next guy, but I was also pretty amazed by their knowledge of ingredients, foraging skills, and some of the dishes were actually really good imo
Food looks terrible and I would never pay that much for dinner maybe if I become rich I'll tip some doordash driver at mrbeast amount but only then would I pay that much for food
To each’s own! It’s for sure not going to be for everyone but I legitimately enjoyed my experience. It’s eclectic and different. Pricing wise - it’s in line with fine dining pricing for 13-14 courses and factors in they forage and locally source their own ingredients
@@hungryartistny But that looked like it was about 13-20 bites of food in total as each course was very small. For $195? That's crazy talk.
@@ShayniBC as noted in the video - I didn’t show every course! Just showed a few dishes I had. I had 14 courses so I was actually pretty full by the end of it cause it ends up adding up. Similar to most omakase concepts
What were you buzzed off? What had you in a buzzed state bro?
My grandma used to make me these in taiwan theyre delicious ❤️
That’s amazing! Yes, they are delicious 🙏
In Java, Indonesia we called that Lepet and it usually served during Eid Al-Fitr
Love that! I’ll have to try the Indonesian version!
Tamales
Yes, a lot of similarities!
Machang! That's what we call it here in the Philippines. Best breakfast ever!
Yum! I’ll have to try it! I love Filipino food
Great content! Happy to see your channel growing!
Looks so tasty!
Thanks so much!
Shit can I come over?
Come on by!

Thank you - definitely will continue to look after her and cherish these memories
This looks so good and this is entertaining to me that i watched to the end and left a like ❤
Thanks so much! It’s a special memory!
Making beautiful memories and learning a new skill with your Mum is wonderful.
Thank you so much!
Reminds me of ma chang! Very cool. Love that you and your mom can bond over Taiwanese food ❤
Thank you! And yes, related to Machang!
Aw this is so sweet, keep cooking with your mom you will get better!
Thanks so much! Will do!
leaving the bamboo leaves in the sink probably got so many germs
Not if the sink is kept clean/cleaned correctly prior. We also scrub the leaves once more and give them a final rinse before using
@alyaabdulla468 that is a rude comment. If you are soaking in the sink, do you not clean yours first? Or have clean sink in the first place?
Lovely❤
Thank you!
Son keep listening keep watching and you will get it well done mom
Thank you! Will do!
Cash only ?
Nah they take card!
Dam those shits look fire. Gotta treasure those moments with yiur mom
Appreciate it!
"Contains allium, dairy" It's a cheeseburger first of all, of course it contains dairy hence the cheese. The allium allergy is new on me, but nothing surprises me anymore.
It take hour and a half to get to Bayside from New York City. Don’t give out stupid info
NYC has 5 boroughs. Lots of people are saying this is perhaps the best AYCE seafood deal in ALL of NYC for that reason.
This was my first thought 😂😂😂
Nice video, I'm going to be in the city next weekend and I'm going to look for that place.
Thanks! Just as a heads up - it’s located in Queens, address is in the video. I meant NYC inclusive of all the boroughs
Even better
🔥💯
🤘🤘🤘
I’m surprised you don’t have more subs. This is great editing
Really appreciate it! I need to be more consistent on CZcams, so I’ll be posting as frequently as I can. Hopefully the subs will come as I post more vids!
Please note the $24.95 lunch deal is MON-FRI from 1pm-3:30pm!
This looks amazing! I love the idea of Mexican American fusion as opposed to tex mex. I’m supprises I haven’t seen this before. Love the review you got a sub!!!
Thanks! It is a bit surprising it’s not more common. A great spot and I really appreciate it!
What do you mean?
@@user-nd7dd9pi3l what do you mean what do I mean?
So what's the difference in this an texmex?
Tex-Mex usually involves other ingredients such as shredded American cheese and ground beef etc. Here, they are still using core Mexican influences and flavors for dishes - like the Cemita Burger (which has Oaxaca cheese + papalo leaves etc). And some of their other dishes are highly traditional!
Sounds like texmex to me
@@user-nd7dd9pi3ldoes it look good to you though?
That tomato based squid and shrimp bowl looked amazing! I've never wanted to go to NY yil now 😂😂
It’s so supremely flavorful. A dish I crave often! Hope you get to try it some time!!!
Sick
Dope spot!!
Looks good to me.
Honestly really solid prices too - we spent around $100 with tax (before tip) and also got their dips and flatbread. Was a lot of food!
Wow I need to try this
It’s a really great spot! The Tagine is my fave
