Those early works also referred to Palpatine as the "President of the Republic" rather than chancellor. It sounds corny, but I prefer the president title as it would have further had Star Wars mirror the politics which inspired it.

I remember Droid Tales very fondly. They were my introduction to the the first six films, which meant that I was very confused when I watched the actual films. The Rebels bit didn’t make sense until I actually watched the show, and I still don’t think I’ve seen the Clone Wars episode at the droid factory. Lego Star Wars has really good humour. Their takes on Vader and Palpatine are both very enjoyable and funny.
