Abacus by Orchestral Tools - My Score for the Trailer
zhlédnutí 2KPřed rokem
I had the pleasure (and challenge) of scoring the trailer for Abacus by Orchestral Tools. Since I also did the video edit of the trailer, I was able to build it so I could alternate between soundbites of Richard Harvey and melodic moments that show off the instrument categories. The goal was to utilize the nearly 100 instruments and their various articulations, and also demonstrate a few of the...

The Bat - Theme by David Kudell - Metropolis Ark Ø
zhlédnutí 3,1KPřed rokem
I had the pleasure of writing a new theme called "The Bat" as an official demo for Orchestral Tools' new sample library Metropolis Ark Ø. Severance Main Theme - The Epic Orchestra Remix
zhlédnutí 6KPřed rokem
The show Severance is an instant classic, and one of the reasons is Theodore Shapiro's amazing score. As a composer myself, I was instantly drawn to the haunting beauty of the piano, the descending chords, and the many variations on the theme that Theodore uses in the show. While the theme is absolutely perfect for the show as is, I thought it would be fun to see what it would sound like as an ...

so I need to lower the pre-load buffer size of my VI called UVI Falcon. I don't have a buffer size. In Falcon's streaming menu, I get the hard drive type as Medium 5400rpm (default) and cache size of 40mb. I assume this is incorrect? My samples are stored on an external 2TB NVME TB3 SSDM currently connected to my mac mini, which has a read speed of 2000mb/s+, a lot higher than the 128GB internal SSD of my mac mini.
Cheers mate, this was a great help!!!
Excellent job, man!!! Thank you for your sharing.
1700 track per project ?😂😂😂
Great video, thank you so much! really helpful.
Glad it was helpful!
So I guess I'll get a Mac Studio with 64GB/512GB once the M4 Max comes out. And use Samsung T7 drives for storage.
Let us know how it works out!
Don't click on the upgrades too much. Pretty soon you'll be clicking to upgrade you
That’s a scary thought, is this the AI overlords talking?
Great work! Thanks for sharing David!
Do you have any specific reason you recommend the m2 max as minimum spec? Because most daws cannot utilize the extra efficiency cores in the m2 macs so there's really no benefit whatsoever to choose an m2 over an m1. Other than the possible extra 1 year of support. But the cost savings justify that. There's also some midi issues with m2+ if you are using legacy usb. They've removed the legacy usb driver's and such for the m2 and up units. M1 still remains the best buy for musicians.
The single core speed is higher for the M2 and that plays a big role for a lot of plugins and software synths that do not use multiple cores.
Currently on a M1 MBP 14", 16gb of RAM and 512gb HD. I'm not a composer that uses tons of VI's, but I record bands and use plug ins like most do. My only regret with this layout on this machine is I wish I got more HD space. The 16gb of RAM for me is more than enough for not only my music, but I tinker around with 3d design and printing as well. This machine handles that effortlessly. My mix sessions are typically somewhere around 30-60 tracks. Reaper's performance meter says I'm using about 1.2gb of RAM, and barely 10% of the CPU at only the most intense peaks.
I am using fl studio, what i have to do?
Write some awesome music
1700 tracks is an army.
A peaceful army that attacks you with sweet, sweet music
man 192 gb of ram? thats insane.
Nice once man
Thanks, very good testing with pro insider tips.
thanks for the video. What do you think I should buy if my project consists no more than 25-30 tracks (VST instruments & Audio) Mac mini or it's better to save for Mac Studio? Thanks!
So that’s tough to answer because I don’t know what the load will be for those tracks. Every software instrument is different and even some Kontakt instruments use way more power than others (Slate + Ash Kontakt instruments for example use tons of CPU). I also haven’t kept up on what the Mac Minis are these days. One option I suppose is to try the Mac Mini and purchase it where you can return it within 14 days if it can’t handle what you need.
Maybe M1 Ultra?
Thank You. I just do different things, but it helped to assess Logic + FCP, USB + Thunderbolt usage. I think in 2024 waiting for M4 (new ARM-Core-Version) - bigger RAM (and stick with 1TB SSD - no endless budget).
It was PERFECT❤, could you try it with kiss the ring from dune 2 please?
what sample rate you used?
Do you expect a major performance increase in the Mac Studio with M3 Max?
That´s a perfect xplanation of humanity in virtual instruments!!!Thanks David
Thx for the effort !
going forward i'm only creating music with stuff that does not have offset delays.. i've had far too many long nights of headaches and motivation killing tedious work having to deal with them.. it literally destroys all my motivation to create music.
If you have a template setup it doesn’t create any additional work since the delay values are set and ready to go. I find it more enjoyable to write knowing I don’t have to play the keyboard perfectly, since I can hit quantize and it will take care of any mistakes. But certainly you should work the way that is most effective for you. I know there are libraries without delays. Personally I find them to not sound as good because they cut off the very important transient info and have inferior legatos.
Thank you so much for this. 1 question, for those of us who don’t do orchestral recordings, how much ram is necessary? For instance, smooth jazz or trap production with a max of about 60 tracks. 🎹♥️
It’s hard to say without knowing what instruments you’re using. I would recommend loading one of your most demanding tracks and seeing how much RAM that used, then take that into account when buying a new system, giving yourself some extra RAM to grow into if you need it. You certainly don’t need 192GB for non-Orchestral music. But whether you need 32 or 64 or 96 or 128 is dependent on what you’re using.
@@DavidKudellMusic Thank you. Komplete ultimate stuff, (mostly the synth plugins, not the orchestral), maschine expansions inside battery 4, omnisphere, captain plugins, ez bass, cubase 13 pro, soundtoys fx rack, melody sauce. That’s pretty much it. 🎹♥️
Wonderful video and thanks for taking time to do this. Just want confirm, you didn't load Cinematic Studio into Sine Player, right?? Seems like that was the implication when you moved the stuff over to the Sine Player. So, I am assuming you were just referring to the Orchestral tool Kontakt version tot the Sine Player version. Again, that's for this. I can't wait to see how the forthcoming M4 macstudios are going to blow the roof off.
Dude thank you so much for the time you took to make this video! Very helpful and informative as im in the market coming over from PC and these tests are exactly what i needed!! People like you make the world go 'round! I appreciate ya! :)
Formidable, merci ! ❤
Do you make enough profit from composing to justify the cost of maxing out the mac spec in this way?
Liked and subbed. This video is amazing ❤️🤘🏻
4:09 hoo boy I’ve worked with a few Macs in my day and I can’t say I have ever seen memory pressure so low even with so much memory is in use
Dont need a mac for composing, just a piano and a notebook
I use pro tools and just getting started Using VSL VI super package full libary do you recommend using cubase 12 or 13?
I like pirates song 🚩🏴☠️😁🤩⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
I owe you my life.
You say the minimum you recommend for mac studio is m2 max , 64 gb ram and 1 tb ssd. Well, what about M1 ultra 64 gb ram and 1 tb ssd?
I think that would be fine too. It would probably just run a bit fewer tracks.
What widescreen is that ? :-)
It’s a Dell U4025QW
Thank you so much for the tests & this video! I've been using a huge PC with many MD drives (some on a dedicated PCI card) and my load times for orchestral libraries have become unbearable overtime. I guess a cluttered/old Windows installation does that, I might just make the switch! (and spend 2 weeks installing VSTs...)
hello david, i m interesting , where i can find La modern perc or any library icons, for metagrid pro ? <3
Thank you so much for this interview. It is so scarce out there. I totally feel you guys about the wrong side of composers business
You claim you had made a key command or shortcut for negative delay in Cubase! I can’t find that setting anywhere in Cubase, would you be able to explain how you did it?
Is this Leon from Blade Runner?
Thank you for your detailed video! I would like to give a hint for the musicians who are currently looking for a new Mac for music production. Several friends of mine are professional music producers. One produces his music on a Mac Mini M1 with 8 GB of RAM. The other produces on a 2013 Macbook Pro (no joke). A friend from Italy who does big production with rock bands works on a 2010 Mac Pro. What I mean by that. If, like me, you're just upgrading from a 10-year-old Intelmac to the M architecture, you'll experience a quantum leap in speed. And where money plays a role, you can definitely consider whether a used Mac Studio M1 or even a used Mac Mini M1 would be enough. Of course not for people who work with huge orchestral sounds in the style of Hans Zimmer. And everyone here can briefly ask themselves whether music productions from 2014 somehow sounded like garbage, or whether music production ten years ago was already very possible with the tools of the time. My answer: yes, it was actually possible ;) For professional producers, these questions will certainly not arise at all, but for people like me, for whom music production is one of several mainstays, the question certainly does arise. Especially after the price ;) All the best for your future work!
Gracias bro :)
bless you! thanks!
This deserves an updated video imho - one for purge all - I'm just figuring out how to do that atm :-)
Could the FaderMaster also be connected to the MIDI In/Out of the audio interface?
Thank you very much dear man, your sharing was very helpful. Admirable!
Hi David, thanks for your very helpful video. Is it still a "must" to batch resave all libraries, when I did a complete clean install eg. of all libraries from NI via Native Access? Just got my MacStudio ... :)
