UCI Rocket Project Liquids - ZotFunder Campaign 2024
Founded in 2005, the UCI Rocket Project began as a small group of engineering students passionate about flight technology--launching high-power solid rockets and bringing their creations to the skies. After a decade of experimental designs, the project shifted its trajectory towards a higher goal, and joined the collegiate race to space as part of the Base11 Space Challenge. Since the debut of the Base 11 Rocketry Lab in 2018, the UCI Rocket Project has evolved into a combined total of 67 undergraduates and a legacy of alumni leading cutting-edge research and engineering in the new space industry.
Since launching UCI's first liquid rocket this past Spring, the Liquids team is determined to break the collegiate methalox altitude record in two years with its next rocket. As one of only a few university rocket teams to use methalox propulsion, the UCI Rocket Project is led by ambitious students driven by challenge, and the new liquid rocket presents the largest opportunity yet for the team to demonstrate their learning and secure a record-holding title for UCI.
The Liquids team is currently in the development testing phase of its new rocket "MOCH4," with its first static test fire planned for the Fall 2024 quarter and launch by Spring 2025. Although the project has a notable foundation of knowledge to build on from the previous launch, competition guidelines prohibit vehicles from being reused, which requires the team to dedicate spending towards replacing materials in addition to manufacturing new designs.
Every dollar counts as much as every foot in altitude, and your support will allow us to push the limits of collegiate rocketry, so we have an EXCLUSIVE OFFER for anyone reading this right now!
Our Offer:
If we hit our $15,000 goal, we will be inviting our three highest donors out to spectate our next launch at the Friends of Amateur Rocketry (F.A.R) site in the Mojave Desert, CA. Please note that this is purely an invitation, we will not be covering travel expenses or anything other than the F.A.R fee associated with having three extra people on site with us during launch, but we want to make sure that our biggest supporters are invited to be out there with us to see what they have helped to achieve!
We can’t thank you enough for your support, and can’t wait to share our progress with you and take one step closer towards our next launch!

UCI Rocket Project - METHALOX LIQUID ROCKET LAUNCH
zhlédnutí 2,2KPřed rokem
On April 29th, 2023, we successfully launched our Preliminary Test Rocket (PTR), marking UCI's inaugural entry into liquid rocketry. Standing tall at roughly 20ft and weighing just over 350lbs with full tanks, this bi-propellant methalox rocket gave our students the opportunity to solve the same problems being solved by industry leaders like SpaceX and Relativity Space. Witness the impressive p...

After almost 6 years of hard work and perseverance, our liquids team conducted a successful vertical test fire on 1/21/2023!! An achievement like this is one major step forward in our quest to reach new heights and push the boundaries of collegiate rocketry as we are now officially preparing for LAUNCH!! Massive thank you to everyone who has supported us up until this point! We could not be mor...

On Saturday, April 17th, our team successfully completed a static fire of our Preliminary Test Engine (PTE), reaching a thrust of 942 lbf and closely matching design parameters. Despite all challenges faced during the ongoing pandemic, our team has made steady progress towards launching a liquid bi-propellant rocket to an altitude of 30,000 ft. Huge thanks to our Project Advisor, Prof. Mark Wal...

Back in November 2019, We successfully completed our first Static Test Fire of our Preliminary Test Engine (PTE). This is a liquid oxygen, liquid methane, pressure fed engine producing 750 lbf of thrust. We are incredibly proud of all the hard work our team has put into making this happen! We would also like to thank our advisor, Professor Mark Walter, the staff at FAR, and our department for s...

    GJ guys. When I was working on my biprop and going to UCI there wasn't any such resources available. It wasn't clear in the video, did you have some issues with the chutes?

    • @ryantran2113
      @ryantran2113 Před rokem

      It was an issue involving both chutes and internal structure. Our launch vehicle lead, Alek, conducted extensive RCA and determined that the chutes induced an immense shear force and bending moment on the struts. Luckily, our recovery harness remained in-tact and the avionics bay was recovered with our flight data.

      @@ryantran2113 If you're not using deployment bags for the chutes you might look into that.. Ideally you want a small chute to pull the lines tight before it pulls the main chute from the bag.. That really reduces that peak force shock on the system.. I used a high speed drogue chute that cut away using a line cutter at 1000ft agl that then pulled the main chute bag out. Great job and best of luck in the future.

      @@AIM54A 100% agree with you, and we did use a very similar method. A main deployment bag was included in our dual-deploy configuration. But it was ultimately during apogee deployment where the system faltered. Lessons were learned and extensive testing will be done for our future rocket. Thank you for the feedback!

    Very cool but isn't it a horizontal engine mount not vertical?

    • @spikeymike2142
      @spikeymike2142 Před rokem

      The vertical test fire is to test the plumbing in the vertical orientation (close to launch configuration). The engine is mounted horizontally, but the rest of the system is hoisted vertically
