The Big Short Review: The Economics of Corruption
Maverick and his guest Philip review the 2015 release “The Big Short”.
They discuss the plot, characters, and themes of the film, as well as their personal opinions and ratings. They explore the unique structure of the movie, which follows multiple storylines and incorporates elements of comedy and documentary. The hosts also discuss the flaws and motivations of the main characters and the effectiveness of the film's opening scene. They touch on the tension and stakes of the story, as well as the use of breaking the fourth wall. Overall, they give positive reviews and highlight the film's ability to make complex financial concepts accessible and engaging. The conversation explores the accuracy of the events depicted in the movie 'The Big Short' and the motives of the characters. It delves into the themes of manipulation in the financial system and the need for more regulation. The principal themes identified are the accuracy of the events, the motives of the characters, and the obstacle presented by the financial industry. The movie effectively portrays the impact of the 2008 financial crisis on various characters, highlighting the corruption and greed within the financial industry. The revelations in the story build into a grand picture of how corrupt the system was, leaving the average person to pay the price. The characters undergo some transformation, particularly Mark Baum coming to terms with his brother's death. The movie ends with a preachy message about the need for more government regulation, which could have been softer or removed entirely. Overall, the movie is entertaining and thought-provoking.

I think the brilliant part about the end of Sauron is everything is because of the ring. Aragorn using the plantir to see Sauron and threaten him, getting his army to the black gate, and Sauron being focused on them while frodo and Sam sneak through is all because Sauron believes Aragorn must have the ring. Why else would someone be so confident to fight him? And the part where the narrator says Sauron now knows his doom, he is in complete shock because in his mind there is no way someone would try to destroy the ring. Sauron believes that no matter who it is, they will want the ring for themselves so absolutely there was no way someone would try to destroy it. Then it’s destroyed because of the obsession over it. It was all because of the ring.

interesting take, love the thoughts. Regardless, Tolkien was masterful in how he portrayed the final scenes of Sauron.

  • @mrthisbetterstick7776

    1) Terrible grammar. 2) Pure Clickbait! 3) the lustful mindhold the ring had on others is what kept it "alive" to return to its master 4) Isildur even though he had newly acquired the ring also refused to cast it into the fires and kept it for himself 5) Frodo used the ring for scores of years prior to Gandalf returning to Hobbiton with full knowledge of the ring and plan for Frodo to leave 6) The Nazgul are already dead. 7) you must know more to talk confidently on a subject, as this was a fail. Next try talking about Tool....that's the ticket.

Yeah but in a way it would’ve added to Vader in that he still kills his reason to live his person connecting him to his passion and driving force. Only to realize that him killing her is what ultimately would’ve created the rebellion that brought him to his own son years later. Also her ideals conflicting with his own. It could’ve added more flavor to the story.

The Roman Empire had a system like this for a while and it worked great even though they where corrupt and wanted more power Over all if only the leader cared about the common man it would work great
