The MusicMan HD-130 This was a labor of love as I bought this as just a chassis off eBay and the circuit board was basically just hanging in there by a couple wires and needed quite a bit of work. But I got it up and running and it sounds pretty good, hope you enjoy this video. this was supposedly the amplifier and model that Eric Clapton use on producing the album Slow Hand.

Fender Bassman 100 Estate Find - Will it work
The more powerful amp (I have a '67 blackface drip-edge transitional "50 watt" - more likely less) sounds better, the bigger iron and more power tubes gives it a more solid sound even at low volumes. I recently got an AC15CH, and wish I'd gotten the AC30CH for that reason. Nice score man!
Thank you and yes you are right about the power of the amp and I've have the tendency to really like the more powerful amps when it seems the norm for most people is to stay in the 5 to 15 watt power range. I'm part of that by me is that I live in a house where I can actually turn my amps up and enjoy the sound of a more powerful amp.
Amazing conversion Ron, you got it right on with the overdrive!. I've got a '56 Masco ME-27 getting converted right now in a fellow youtubers shop here in the UK. This is the sound I'm looking for, harmonics on top of the drive!.
Ron, nice work as usual!
@@thatampguy Thanks my friend
I just picked one of these up. How do i connect a speaker to the terminals? Does the negative go to "C" and the positive to 8ohm if it's an 8ohm speaker?
@@mr.giggles4995 Yes that's exactly right. Your on your way. Can you solder? If you can then you can get a 1/4 instrument jack and install it and you'll be in business.Or you can just hook up your wires to the connections on the back of the amp.
@@roncarter2188 awesome, thanks for the speedy reply! The amp hasn't been modified in any way as far as i can tell. I can solder, I've never worked inside an amp though, I did make an awesome fuzz pedal and a little boost pedal when I was younger. I've been reading up on how to safely drain the capacitors and plan to give it a go soon. Does the Signet 10 have that so-called death cap that needs to removed?
@@mr.giggles4995 Not sure about that, I can't remember. Pull up a schematic, they are available on line for free download. Good luck.
Always loved the picture you have of Jerry there in your bio... . Always was curious how they used Macintosh amps for their guitars. I mean I get how it was a PA. But surely they used other amps as their main amplification for the guitars and then ran to the PAs. Or did Jerry like run from his midi guitar into the board and straight to the PA? Any idea? Only brought it up because I saw your picture of Jerry in the bio
I took one of the 100 watt versions and put a deluxe tone stack init and man you talk about nice. good treble. good bass good volume.
Oh nice. I demoed the 100 watt version about a month ago on my channel and your right about the power and great tone controls. I'd love to hear your amp.
I un-ironically love the ghetto method of pressing the resistor in to the eyelet with a chopstick to "turn it on".
👍👍👍
Thank you, take care.
Honestly this amp sounds anemic, who said ths amp was a fire amp?
Not sure, this is new to me....it's not a fire amp, maybe with some work it could be.
Sweet Demo!!!!!!!!!! Taser Playing. What a pedal platform, I'm going to guess it has a Drake style OT and not a Radiospares.. Thanks
Actually the transformers were taken from an old Earth amplifier. Thanks for viewing this.
Sorry not Taser meant TASTY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

IIRC, the "Falcon was the model name for the GA19RT or RVT series.. There is very little circuit continuity between examples of a given Gibson model, and therefore a whiteface, chromeface or "woody" GA19 Falcon are all different and might not match the published schematics either. PS, the reverb tank, if not original, may have been erroneously replaced with a Fender-style transfomer driven reverb tank ---- but Gibson often used a capacitor-driven circuit and so a Fender type tank wont work.
The tank is definitely original and thanks for the info.
@@roncarter2188 , as an example of Gibson's inconsistency, look at the Skylark models. There's a version with a 6V6, a version with a 6BM8 or two, a version with two EL84s, and a version with two 6AQ5's! As for the GA19RVT, the only one I played through ( brown tolex, rusty chrome faceplate) had issues (no shortage of hum) but sounded very much like a Deluxe Reverb, with plenty of smooth lush reverb. Anyway, did you look for date codes on this amp?
@@goodun2974 You nailed it! I have a 1959 Gibsonette and the one I have uses two 6bm8 and another model uses two 6v6's so there you go....I'm going to shoot a video on the Gibsonette maybe tonight or tomorrow. I really live that amp, it's definitely a keeper! I'm planning on building a clone with the same tube lineup. It's a Japanese made little pa head with the exact tube lineup except for the rectifier tube is different.
S-60 and S-100 are great amps to tinker with. Clean easy to follow layout. I've changed the front ends on mine a few timeS and haven't killed it yet. That's saying something.
I feel like it'd be pretty said to see such a unique amp turned into just another jcm800. I'd keep the bones stock and see what you can do to make the controls more useful for guitar.
I think your right! Thanks
Is it one of those valco amps with a different name?
Nope, all their own.
Remote switch foot pedal switches the channels.
I thought about trying to locate one just to try that out. Such a versatile amp.
7:56 __Спасибо за игру👍👍👍
Thank you -cheers
She's a real beaut! I bet she'd make a great bass amp. The OA2 is a voltage regulator. I can't find an exact schematic for the S100 online but a similar one seems to have the OA2 regulating voltage for the power tube screens. How it does this is a complete mystery to me though - the cathode is connected to the 6.3v center tap and the anode to the B+ center tap. This is above my pay grade for sure. Would love to know how it works though. Great job, Ronnie!
So it's a voltage regulator for the screens? I've looked around for a schematic myself with no luck. I hear there is a Groomes model that's almost the same amp but I haven't got a chance to look for it. Crazy power tubes but very effective! Take care my friend.
i used a PE amp for bass years ago dual rectifier 6l6...really miss that amp stupidly i sold it
@@roncarter2188 my old PE amp had a 6v6 voltage regulator, never had to do anything with my amp so i never really knew the circuit.was a tank
I have an official S100 schematic. How can I get you a digital copy? I absolutely love Grommes Amps. All of the S-xxx schematics are the same except for quantity of mic channels and the number of power tubes. Nice Bass amps. Clean.
@@jonathanhorne6503 You could send it to my email. Wildwoodamps@gmail.com Hey and thanks so much, I really appreciate that. Take care
Sounds great! Why the ef86 in the circuit? Is it the preamp tube and the 6sl7 is the phase splitter for the push-pull 6v6's? Killer project!
Yes that's exactly what it is and the 6sl7 as you stated is a paraphrase phase inverter.
Thanks so much. Cheers
Should do an update on this amp. I have one also and would love to know more about it
Agreed. Have you got to use it yet?
Please tell me what the impedance switch does in 5 year old terms
I'd love to see what it looks like under the hood, and inside the chassis. I have a big Webster PA amp that needs to be recapped and converted for guitar use: it has two 5U4 rectifiers, four 6L6GC's, three 5879 pentodes for mic input (as well as one octal tube phonograph input), a weird tone circuit with small inductors, and a 6SJ7, 6SL7 and 6SN7! I couldn't find an exact schematic for it online or in my large collection of Sam's PA amplifier schematics, but I did find a schematic for another brand of PA amp with a somewhat similar circuit and tube complement, a Dukane I think it was. It probably should get a new output transformer however, because the multiple secondary windings and taps aren't marked and the wires are discolored from age, and so it's a confusing mess. I could probably figure it out with a multimeter if I had to but it seems more appropriate to put a proper output tranny in there with 4, 8 and 16 ohm taps.
Hey I have some Webster pa amps and the speaker connections can be weird. Can you send me some pics of the connections, maybe I can help you. My email is rollingron67@yahoo.com
@@roncarter2188 , I'll take some snapshots when I get a chance. Want hand-drawn circuit diagrams of it as well?
@@goodun2974 Yeah that'll be fine I'll see what I can do.
Did you do any circuit mods before demo or is it a stock circuit? On these Dukanes I often leave one channel stock for LowZ mics. I have the ransformers
@@jonathanhorne6503 No its stock, just a bright cap added to one mic volume.
Late to the party but I have the Mark IV with two 15 20 cabs I bought in 1993 and still going.
Definitely some good made stuff.
Ducane (Operadio) invented high gain amplification. Ducane invented the master volume control. Mesa Boogie: is a johnny come lately.
Ron, I have a AO35 that I did the same thing with following Brad's video with a few changes. I'd like to add a MV so could you tell me what circuit you used?? Post phase inverter or pre?? Any help appreciated
Sure so the easiest one to do and it works pretty well it's the same one that I have on my amplifier which is a post phase inverter master volume type 3. Take a 1 meg audio taper pot. Connect a wire from center lug of the pot and the other end to pin 2 of the power tube. Take another wire to one of the other outside lugs of the pot and then to pin 2 on the other output tube. There will already be a connection on pins 2 but thats ok just connect the pot to those pins as well. This is for using el84 power tubes.
@@roncarter2188 Thanks, I drew up a schematic and I get it. I think there will be a difference in 'feel/sensitiviy' depending on which outside lug you connect to because of the audio taper. I'll mess around with it...maybe try a linear taper pot. Thanks again!!!
@@wallpapermusique So when you mount the pot that's when you'll need to decide on which outside lugs to use because that will determine when you turn it up or down if the volume goes up or down. That won't effect the tone or feel just the way the volume goes up or down. So if you turn it up and the volume goes down then just switch the one wire to the opposite lug. I recommend using temporary jumper wires with clips on them then you will know how to wire it with the correct lugs on the pot.
@@roncarter2188 Got it. I might still try a linear pot.
I have 6 of these. I bought a 1969 bandmaster chassis without transformers and dropped the Dukane transformers into it. Sounds like a Dukane Bandmaster, both have 6 preamp tubes. I've turned 2 of the Dukanes into Bassmans. there is a lot of potential. GOD BLESS YOU! GOD BLESS AMERICA!! GLORY BE TO GOD!!! IN JESUS NAME WE PRAY!!!!!!!

What fuse does this amp use? I have one I’m trying to sell but the fuse & cap popped out & can’t find a lot of info on it
I believe it's a 2 amp fuse.
I’ve thrown together a couple of those Hoffman 6V6 Pexi’s for people. I’m always impressed with the sound, but never seem to build one for myself. I need another tube amp like I need another hole in my head though. That Hammond power transformer seems a little small from here. Didn’t it used to run 6BQ5/6V6’s?
Yes it did run a pair of 6v6's originally. But in the original circuit this amp was running a total like 8 tubes in all, so it has the power to run 6l6's in place of the 6v6's. It was a fun project and I really like they way it turned out. Thanks for checking it out.
Always tune your guitar before making a video. Was hard to listen to.
Hey Ron Nice amp and worth to be restored! The toggle switch with the high and low position actually changes the voltage . In the high position you probably can reed around 700 Volts on the anodes of the powertubes. I had one of these on the bench lately. It looks like you started with a Hammond AO29 and gutted everything except the power transformer and chassis
Yes sir you are correct. The video I posted before this one shows the amp and demos it and what I used as far as components and transformers, but yeah you're right.
I like the way the tails sound on this old gal...
Would love to see someone like yourself capture these amps in a modeler like the Quad Cortex. That would preserve the sound of these amps( and Terry's sound), which are very hard to come by and often would need a ton of work.
Who the hell is Terry?
Methimks your 'auto-focus' is having a case of shit conniptions...(?) (...ha ha I just noticed your text ) ...mayhaps some coach horse blinders (?) I'm digging some of your tones and I like the tube type rectifier... Seems a lot of blokes have found success with Hammond conversions
I'm so mad, I watched my video and I'm like what the hell is going on....it's getting me drunk!😅
I’ve blown up two of those AO-29 power transformers trying to run 6L6 tubes in a Thunderbolt build. Had it in an open back combo and the transformer would overheat and drip wax out of it, eventually frying it. First time I thought it was a bad transformer. Second time I knew something was up. The fix was to run it on 110v mains and install a small fan blowing directly on the transformer. Power transformer #3 has been running perfect for 5 years now.
I've been running mine on a variac at 100-110 volts. My voltage at my house is a moderate 117 which is not the case at most places these days. My pt seems to be running pretty healthy and after a couple hours barely warm, so I'm thinking this will be ok and if a issue starts to develop I'll just get a proper PT.
Sounds amazing
Thanks so much!
I’d love that thing
Man lucky 🍀
Thank you.....It is a pretty cool amp.
Were you able to find filter caps for it?

That's what I really love and I think on this amp I ran out of time when I got this really cooking. I'm thinking about shooting a video of my maybe three favorite amp conversions and part of that will be to crank them up for that good overdrive.

I have a Harmony 415, which is two EL-84 tubes, the poor man's Vox (or Marshall depending on). I always assumed it was made by Harmony not Valco? I have a Gretch with a 15" speaker, used to be called an "Executive" (forget the numbers now), but not the new version of the "Executive". It's just like a two channel "Thunderbolt" they say?
