Bressingham Steam Museum - 5th May 2024
Over the weekend of Saturday 4th May, Sunday 5th May & Monday 6th May 2024 the Bressingham Steam Museum had a gala event which featured much of their large collection of steam locomotives working on both road and rail as well as some visiting machines, Dutch style street organs and some heritage road vehicles.
There are four different gauge railways operational on site, smallest to largest being -
The Garden Railway, a 10¼ inch gauge single line with a balloon loop and turntable to turn the locomotive after each run. This runs around the edge of the Dell Garden.
The Waveney Valley Railway, a 15 inch gauge, 1½ mile long circuit that loops around the south end of the site, near the Waveney River and back round to run adjacent the standard gauge line.
The Fen Railway, a 1ft 11½ inch gauge, 2½ mile long circuit that loops around the south of the site, crossing the Waveney Valley Railway on a flat crossing and continuing through an area of the site that had previously been used for market gardening but is now being returned to nature.
The Standard Gauge Railway, a 4ft 8½ inch stretch of line which runs from the north end of the site to just short of its southerly border.
There is also a short piece of 5ft gauge track with a VR (Finland) Class Tk 2-8-0 locomotive, 1144, plinthed on it.
Locomotives working that day were:
On the Standard Gauge Railway, London Brighton & South Coast Railway Stroudley A1X Terrier "Martello", painted in Southern Railway green carrying the number B 662.
Also visible adjacent to the Standard Gauge Railway was British Railways Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 92203 "Black Prince" that had arrived on site from the North Norfolk Railway a few days before the event. There is fracture in the main steam pipe and with the boiler certificate expiring shortly after this discovery the NNR decided to stop the loco. It will be on static display at Bressingham for at least two years while funds and space to carry out the overhaul become available at the NNR.
On the Garden Railway was "Alan Bloom", an 0-4-0 Saddle Tank built on site at Bressingham, entering service in 1995.
On the Waveney Valley Railway was "St. Christopher", a 2-6-2 Tank engine built by The Exmoor Steam Railway in 2001 and has been in service at Bressingham since 2011.
On the Fen Railway there were several locomotives working:
0-4-0 vertical boiler tank engine No.3 "Fernilee" that was constructed from historic spare and scratch built parts in 2015 and was previously in service on the sadly closed Penrhyn Quarry Railway.
Two Hunslet 0-4-0 Saddle Tanks, both of which originally worked at Penrhyn Quarry until it closed in 1965 and arrived at Bressingham in 1966:
"Gwynedd", built 1883 with works number 316
"George Sholto", built 1909 with works number 994
The partially closed cab is a non original feature added to "George Sholto" during a 2011 overhaul.
Kerr Stuart "Wren" type 0-4-0 Saddle Tank, built by Hunslet some time between 2005 & 2008 - the builders plate shows 2005 with Hunslet builders number 3905 and Leeds as the location of manufacture but sources elsewhere on the internet suggest the locomotive was completed in 2007 or 2008 at Statfold by the successor and intellectual property owner of Hunslet & Kerr Stuart designs.
Motor Rail Simplex 4wDM built in 1964 with works number 22120. It spent all its working life with Anglia Water and for a time was disguised as "Toby the Tram Engine" from the Rev. W. Awdrys "Railway Stories".
With regard to portables, road rollers and industrial road locomotives (traction engines), the output of local Norfolk builder Charles Burrell & Sons of Thetford is well represented at Bressingham alongside machines by Robey, Garrett & Aveling & Porter.
Rollers, General Purpose and Road locomotives identified in this video are:
CF3579 - General Purpose engine, built by Burrells in 1891, works number 1522 named "Old Chap"
BL4843 - General Purpose compound engine, built by Burrells in 1901, works number 2426
PC9300 - General Purpose compound engine, built by Burrells in 1905, works number 2770
AH5607 - 11 ton General Purpose compound engine, built by Burrells in 1912, works number 3420 named "The Duchess"
NO1221 - 10 ton Road Roller, built by Aveling & Porter in 1917, works number 8837 named "George"
BR1498 - Showmans Road Locomotive, built by Burrells in 1920, works number 3833 named "Queen Mary"
EW2981 - General Purpose engine, built by Fowell in 1922, works number 108 named "Percy"
NK4450 - General Purpose compound engine, built by Burrells in 1922, works number 3935 named "Surprise"
CF5646 - 10 ton compound Road Roller, built by Burrells in 1924, works number 3993 named "Buster"
VF4183 - 10 ton General Purpose engine, built by Marshalls in 1928, works number 83780
Bressingham is definitely worth a visit!!

This is the class 50 on its final day on Sunday 24th May 1992 is nearly 32 previous years ago on Friday 24th May 2024. I was aged 16 years old at the time 🕰️. There are two 2️⃣ diesel ⛽️ engines holding around 7 carriages. It is BST - British 🇬🇧 Summer ☀️ 🌞 🕶️ 😎 Time 🕰️. Maybe 🤔 perhaps 🤔 class 50s went until the year 1993. On the west of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 line between Pinhoe in Devon in the southwest of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 and Salisbury in Wiltshire in the south of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 is a single railway 🚃 track 🛤️ since June 1967 for almost 😅 6 decades is 60 years. I honestly think 💭🤔 the reason why the railway 🚃 track 🛤️ is single is because it runs via the countryside that the railway 🚃 stations 🚉 are most of the single track 🛤️. Most of the line is double track 🛤️ 🛤️. Perhaps 🤔 it was Richard Beeching that had been doing his decisions to have a single track on the line. Most of the line is a short and long passing loop 🔁 🔂 . At present 💝 in 2024, there are class 158s and 159s are on the west of England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 line that runs from Exeter St Davids to London Waterloo via Honiton, Axminster, Crewkerne, Yeovil Junction, Sherborne, Templecombe, Gillingham Dorset, Salisbury, Andover, Basingstoke and finally Woking that runs its services everyday including public holidays except Christmas 🎄🎅 🤶 🧑‍🎄🧑‍🎄 Day and Boxing 🥊 Day. It’s been privatised since bank 🏦 Monday 1st 🥇 January 1996 (New Year’s Day) 🥳 🎈 🎉 🪅 🎀 🎆 🎇 🧨 💥🍹 🍸 🍾 🍷 🥃 🍺 🍻 🥂 🎂 was named SWT - South West Trains 🚂 🚊 🚆 for 21 years until August 2017 that became SWR - South Western Railway 🚃. Class 50 trains 🚂 🚆 🚊 carry 7 to 9 carriages have slam door 🚪 trains 🚂 🚊 🚆 , open windows 🪟, a toilet 🚾 🚽 🚻 , perhaps 🤔 comfortable seats 💺, luggage 🧳 rack, bins 🗑️ and had a smoking 🚬 accommodation back then. Nowadays in the year 2024, all a accommodation on SWR - South Western Railway 🚃 is non smoking 🚭 because it’s prohibited 🚫 on all trains 🚂 🚊 🚆 , buses 🚎 🚌 🚍 , railway 🚃 stations 🚉 are covered and uncovered. The class 158s and 159s train 🚂 🚆 🚊 have automatic operating doors 🚪, rectangle windows 🪟, bins 🗑️, a toilet 🚽 🚾 🚻 in all carriages, central heating, a carpet, first class accommodation, comfortable seats 💺 and are very smooth journeys because it’s warm inside the trains 🚂 🚊 🚆 . The single railway 🚃 track 🛤️ happens to be is at these railway 🚃 stations 🚉 are Cranbrook, Whimple, Feniton, Crewkerne, Templecombe and finally Tisbury. The double track 🛤️ 🛤️ are Exeter St Davids, Exeter Central, Honiton, Axminster, Yeovil Junction, Sherborne, Gillingham Dorset, Salisbury and finally the rest of the railway 🚃 stations 🚉 east of Salisbury to London Waterloo. 👍 🤝

Heres something you may find interesting. :) The name of my country has nothing to do with the interesting and delicious bird 'turkey'...... .....but the name of the bird does have a connection with the name of my country, let me explain. :) In the past 40 years 37 countries have changed their name. Obviously one can not change the name of an apple or an orange etc in other languages, but country names are like peoples' individual names, so if you're named John we don't call you Karen. :) Name of my country has always been Türkiye, it's been known as such since around the 1200's. The name it self has a suffix, '-iye', that is Turk-iye, where the -iye suffix means 'land of/belonging to', just like the Latin suffix of '-ia', which exists in such country names like Austr-ia, Austral-ia, Indones-ia etc. Basically, the use of '-iye/-ia' is the same as the the use of '-land' suffix in country names like Ire(Eire)-land, Po(le)-land, Eng(Anglo)-land and so on and so on. Many would remember the country Czechoslovak-ia which changed it's name to Czech Republic and a few years ago changed that to Czechia (that is Czech-ia). The Latin suffix -ia probably originates from Turkish -iye as Turkish been over 10,000 years is much older than Latin which is around 1300 years old. Spelled in different languages in different ways to phonetically resemble (to sound like) 'Türkiye' we got various spellings like; Turq-uía (in Spanish), Turch-ia (in Italian), Turq-uie (in French) Turk-ei (in German) Turk-ey (in English) Mind you this was way before the animal we currently know as turkey was found by the europeans when they explored the north americas. The bird was first sent to europe from north americas in the year 1519, so up until that point there was no bird named turkey.... ...they came across the bird and thought it was a specie of the fowl/chicken they had been buying from the country of Turkiye at the time, so they named the bird 'Turkey Fowl' to define 'Turkish Chicken'... ....just like how a dog breed is known as German Shepherd (because it's from Germany), American Bulldog, British Terrier, Greek Harehound etc etc. In time you don't get to call the harehound simply as Greek or you don't call the terrier Britirsh, or shepherd as simply German, but in time the Turkish Fowl started to be called just 'Turkey' and later 'turkey', and this went on for hundreds of years. Now in modern times, this caused confusion, especially when we have people across the world unable to point to their own country on an atlas. Basically we didn't change the name of our country, we changed the mistake made in the English language. : ) So, there's some tid bit information for you to have a great day, if you read upto this point you have a great night too, ohh just have a wonderfull life. : ) Best wishes. ;)

In the 70s and 80s the Thumpers didn't run between Reading and Basingstoke on Sundays because we got a posh train hourly with corridors that went from Reading to Portsmouth Harbour. Until the Late 70s Bramley had double swing gates at the crossing but when the manned signal box was demolished the gates were replaced with single lane drop gates you see here and quite a few years after this video were replaced, again, with dual lane skirted gates.
