Last days of service of the Deux-Montagnes train line in Montreal
After 102 years of service, the Deux-Montagnes train line in Montreal will be permanently shut down and demolished in order to be replaced by the REM, the automated light rail metro that will be serving the Great Montreal.

How was the diesels F40 allowed on the Deux Montanges line? I thought only electric trains could access the Mount Royal tunnel.

Hi, I remember I watched your video where those trains switch from diesel mode to electric and vice versa. You shoot this video in winter time, and it is long. By the way. Prior to lowering pantograph - the sound of pneumatic switch with air blast arc blowout is heard. Am I right?

Not often. Last time I came to NYC was in 2015.
Where will ALP45 locos go, to NJ Trainsit?
So far, even if the only electrified train of Exo/former AMT has disappeared and that the Mascouche train line, which was partially electrified, will no longer go to downtown, Exo has no plans to get rid of the 20 ALP-45DP locos. They are already 10 years old. They might be used as regular diesel locomotives for the rest of their lives.

I wish this line was still in service. I remember getting onboard the MR-90 since I was little and got into the cab to take a view of the front. And why the MR-90 for scrapping like this was a good train for the past 25 years of service since they refurbished the line in 1995

In loving memeory of the Mr-90s i had a tear when i saw the truck shipping the first car out to a unkown fate, I now am really hoping we gat some presevred if not we gotta file a petition to save one or a 3 car set from the cutters torch
They moved the MR-90 from St-Eustache to the St-Jérôme line's yard by truck. They are now being brought to the Pointe-St-Charles maintenance center of Exo, near Central Station in downtown Montreal. They might sold or we don't know... They still have 20-30 years of lifespan left...
@@AMTFan1 Yep, with the 1969 galley cars and the Mt st-hillaire line rtc-85 cab car 201 why did they keep 201 and the 9 galley cars there since 2011 i only rode on em in 2010 once. I dont want to see all these scrapped. I wanna see 2 or all of the galley cars or/and 201 and 1101 at exporail tbf like at the IRM.

For 100 years, Montreal had the only electric passenger train in Canada that was open to the public. This was a line I wanted to ride my whole life, as every other train I rode in my life, when you only count heavy-rail, was diesel, like everything else in Canada. Hopefully somebody in Canada will find a use for these, preferably under electric traction, or if the AMT finds a use for these elsewhere, even better. Idk though, doubt it. Probs a couple cars will be donated to Exporail and will sit to rot like alot of the stuff they have, like CP 4744, ONT 1400 and most of their modern stuff. We lost big time with this line being converted, in terms of technological history. Now if you want an inter-city electric train, the only place you can go now on this side of the Atlantic is the NEC in the States, or the South Shore in Chicago, or if you've got a strong set of cojones and a liking for the ghetto, the Hershey Line in Cuba or the Mexico City suburban network which runs on mainline tracks. None of which are in Canada. I was actually gonna plan a trip to Montreal this year with my group of friends, planned before Covid, and we even had a free place to stay and everything, but the pandemic ruined that.
Hi! Thanks for your comment! :) Sorry to learn that you couldn't make it in time to visit this train line before its closure. Indeed, we've wasted many opportunities to make many other uses of this train line and its tunnel before scrapping it again and convert it to a light rail metro. There were many other opportunities as bringing the St-Jerome line to the Mount-Royal tunnel directly to Central station, and VIA Rail's high-frequency train between Quebec and Montreal.
Man I wanted to ride on it so bad before its closure but I couldn't because I was so busy at work, but thanks to you again you made this video about it. Thank you so much and glad to see you're back!

Nice video, I still have a lot of footage to show of this line in winter and fall before it closed. My favorite section was Island hopping between Roxboro and that sewwping curve at Grand Moulin. this line reminds me of Chicago South Shore &South Bend Electric trains. Check that out, that line is crazy

Agreed. Now all the footages I've taken of this train line during the past 10 years are part of archives. Even if I've let down CZcams for the past 4-5 years, I'll still let that channel online.

It's sad to see this line go. It was one of our best rides ever on the AMT/EXO system when we visited Montreal. We captured that same rear car view when we rode the route too. Thanks for sharing this last day of operation. You got some great shots in this video.
Thank you! I've been using this train line for 10 years, ever since I've begun my studies in the university. When they've begun to cut the service on the line starting in 2018 and it became difficult to move around, and the construction work for the REM begun, I moved from the West Island closer to downtown Montreal for my work. Ironically, the pandemic came almost at the same time and I was forced to stay home ever since... I'll miss this train line. I think it is a bit of a shame we had to scrap it in order to convert it to a light rail metro to have better service, since one of the things I wanted the most from this train line was more frequency, especially on week-ends.

Well six years later they’re now being exclusively run in diesel mode. This is because of the construction of Réseau express métropolitain and the Mascouche line being cut to Ahuntsic station.
Yup! Now Exo (former AMT) is looking to resell them to another transportation agency since it has put call for tender for an agency to analyze financially how to sell those locomotives. There's a high probability that it may be New Jersey Transit that might want to buy those locomotives since the project to increase the capacity of the Hudson River tunnel might be going forward from what I've heard a while ago.

Those old F40PH locomotives were leased from Amtrak or other railroad companies from the U.S. Iif I remember well. I think that once the AMT had its new AL-45DP locomotives and rebuilt F59PH locomotives from GO Transit, they had to return them to their owners.
