We owned a Malo 39 Classic from 2002 to 2006 with sail number 69. I took two work colleagues out on Poole bay on December 14, 2002 and we had an extraordinary day out on the water. There was a northerly wind which meant the water was very flat and while the wind was 20 knots, we were well protected and comfortable in the cockpit. In fact, one of my passengers had asked that we brew some coffee before we went out and, as owner of the boat, I demurred and we did brew a pot of coffee in case things required it. As you might expect, the coffee was poured down the drain as no one needed a sip. But hey, Malo Yachts are the real deal. And we were able to specify what we wanted without constraints like Hallberg-Rassy who DO NOT allow purchasers to specify preferences for standard boats.

It seemed very well built, but the floor plan slightly messy - if I saw correctly, you need to enter through thr bathroom to reach the aft cabin (?)

Still for sale?

Suggest..use fabric covered foam to cover up all those gaps/voids along the sides above the furniture line. It is cheap and dressed it up from nice to more luxury/semi custom. Love the lightness of the boat though.

I've finally found a boat with a near perfect design! It gets the balance right. Looking at Lagoons, Fountaine Pajots, Leopards etc etc they just don't get the layout quite right, and the all seem to compromise for this size. Love the upstairs lounge area, front facing nav station, kitchen bench space, owner's cabin layout, tall windows (maybe a skylight could be added) and bathing/tender platform. Nailed it. Now just get the materials/build quality right and customers will flock!

Concept looks great. Bringing it to the market at a competitive pricepoint is going to be the challenge. Keep developing!

First time I laid eyes on Golden Beaver was in the 1980's She was on the hard in Hull Marina full of rain water up to about 4 inches above the waterline where someone had punched out the caulking to stop her filling any further. She had been seized by HM Revenue & customs as her sister vessel (same owner) had been found at Hillyard's in Littlehampton with a bilge full of cannabis resin. Apparently the dope was only discovered by accident when two Hillyard employees were having a water fight and having inadvertently chucked a bucket of water down the companionway decided to lift the sole boards to dry things out. A good deed that got the owner arrested for drug trafficking. As they say, no good deed goes unpunished :) Anyway, as a result poor old Golden Beaver got the full treatment from the revenue men who, by the look of the interior after we had got her pumped out, had used a fire axe and a sledgehammer in their investigation. After a few days work her wonderful Gardner six cylinder engine and ran, well, just like you'd expect a Gardner to run. Perfectly. The next day we used the yacht lift to lower her into the water, everyone in the yard was convinced she'd leak like a sieve so we had two electric bilge pumps and a petrol one on standby but after the minor caulking repair she was dry as a bone. Probably due to all the rain water she'd had in her for months. Her new owner, motoring, single handed without any sails or safety equipment, nearly managed to sink her in the Hull estuary when an unsecured battery parted company from the bed and severed a sea cock but as luck would have it he still had the original tapered plug kit. Close one. Despite all the revenue men's vandalism they'd missed something. A lot as it happens. After Golden Beaver arrived back in Littlehampton it was discovered that a water tank beneath the chart table was stuffed full of top quality hashish wrapped in silver foil. A high old time was had. By a lot of people. Wonderful to see her in such pristine condition, probably still sails like a pig but, like all Hillyard's, with that confidence that makes you feel completely safe. Very beautiful design only 2 small adjustment 1. Cancel the starboard stairs to the flybridge and make in the same place stairs to starboard cabins that will give chance to: a. shift the location of the stairs in the saloon and will give more sitting area .b. shift the location of the helm station to starboard so you can make closed helm for more protection from cold weather at night shift, and more space in the flybridge.
