August acted mostly as producer for the band. He believed the music of this then unnamed track had hit potential so he wrote lyrics he believed would contribute to the songs success. It may have been the story the lyrics told that helped the song succeed or the controversy of the lyrics. The Kid Creole versions has different lyrics.

Never saw the movie 'Against All Odds' nor heard this tune. Interesting that both he and Phil did music for the movie. The music was clearly better than the flick. It is about a love triangle. Peter said he almost always starts a song with the rhythm (or drums). Is it surprising that both he and Phil were drummers? Almost ironic.

Wow, I haven't heard this song in ages. I'd actually forgotten about. I think I bought it on EP vinyl back in the day. Need to see if I have it somewhere. Peter did a good amount of soundtrack work. For instance he did the entire score for The Last Temptation of Christ and it is amazing. Thanks for bringing this song back into my consciousness.

Below is a little history of the group and singer. Bucks Fizz star Jay Aston has endured a hellish ordeal over the last few years. The singer, who rose to fame when the British band won the Eurovision Song Contest in 1981 with 'Making Your Mind Up', has suffered from her own agonising health battles. Jay was diagnosed with mouth cancer in June 2018, had a gruelling seven-hour operation to remove a section of her tongue and then had it rebuilt using part of her thigh. They recorder this track on the day Jay was diagnosed with cancer which make it very emotional. Jay has recovered and is still touring with the group they just played a sell out concert at the 02 arena in London 43 years after winning the Eurovision. Recommend their triple album "Consequences". The effects are from a device called a gismotron which they invented. I'll leave you to find out what that is.

Great song to react to. After seeing the same reactions from KISS go through my feeds I searched this song in particular so here I am. For reasons only KISS can explain, you won't see any live videos of this song other than Gene solo band recently. They just never played it. This should have been a mainstay in their set list and for sure should have been on the Revenge tour. The context behind this song is KISS was on top of the world when Love Gun came out. If you listen to how Gene growls and belts out the lyrics starting with the opening HA!, he's being his arrogant self, and letting us know they were the best at that time. I'm a bassist but that riff is so hot I can't help but to play it on the bass until the bass line comes on.

The Captain is indeed a great guitarist but I'm not sure he gets much recognition for it. Lead, rhythm and bass, makes it look easy too.

The producers of the Midnight Special were afraid of what would happen if the kids were given free reign. In any MS clip the audience is just sitting there behaving. Sometimes you'll see them moving to the music or clapping but they never get out of their seats. If these restrictions weren't in place, believe me they'd be going crazy.

After what happened on Sunday evening i submerged myself in a selection of old songs from the 70's to occupy my mind.....one of them was from a band called Generation X called Valley of the Dolls from1979.and i had forgotten how fantastic that song was and still is. Throughout the years I could probably count on one hand examples of songs where I preferred a "cover" version over the original. "I second that emotion" is one of them. It's Japan for me. "You've lost that loving feeling" by Human League, and "On Broadway" performed by Gary Numan are a couple of others, but they are very few and far between. This song is beautiful and majestic, I think it was the pinnacle of Harley's songwriting and performance...such a stylish and grand way for the original band to go out, as they disbanded acromoniously just a few months after the release of "The Psychomodo" and completing a tour with Be-Bop Deluxe.
