It was Beyond the Forest. 1949. Bette hated it. She felt she was too old for the part. They gave her some shit roles by the end of the '40s. June Bride and Winter Meeting. And for the finale Beyond the forest. She was fed up they were fed up.
One the best plays and films ever made. Miss Taylor is brilliant as Martha, her greatest performance ever.

Notice Martha smoking as she is reaching for the piece of chicken in the refrigerator. She drops the cigarette on the floor and puts it out with her shoe. Then, a few moments later she grabs the cigarette George is smoking. This is the greatest opening scene to any movie I can think of. Absolutely incredible acting. All four actors were nominated for Oscars. Elizabeth Taylor won and Sandy Dennis won. 🏆

I believe I read somewhere in these comments that Richard Burton didn't win an Oscar for "political" reasons because he was a "die hard communist" who wanted to play in the role of Tito, the former communist dictator of Yugoslavia. All of that is blatantly FALSE. Read his brilliant written diaries, which he surely insisted NOT be published until AFTER the death of both himself and Elizabeth. It is true, while being "charmed" by Tito and his beautiful wife Jovanka, while vacationing on that beautiful Adriatic coast, like so many other celebrities did, he gave it a somewhat brief thought. He WAS NOT a stupid nor non-observant man. He learned quickly enough about the brutality Tito imposed upon many of his own people, for not being loyal to him. Richard immediately dismissed any such thought about portraying that scoundrel !

The name of the movie that she was looking for the title is called Beyond the Forest and it was Betty's last picture at one of Brothers however Liz Taylor is inaccurate in the scene she does not come home with groceries and put them down and say that line she had no groceries in her hand
