Should we pass midline? Intro to the Sweet Spot
Intro to the Sweet Spot - I'm not a big midline fan and that's because I've shanked so many balls that I thought I had until last second... FLOAT!
I lose my intended angle and I feel awful "I had it!" Here's a small intro to why I don't love passing the ball midline, in front of me and where I think we should track and contact float serves.
PS.. Float serves and Jump serves should be passed differently.

Float Serve Partner Drill (Never Midline)
zhlédnutí 2KPřed 5 měsíci
Never midline game is an easy partner drill you can use to help with 'opening the door' when we open the door, we give ourself the space and ability to respond to last second floats with our intended angle. I don't like midline because if the ball floats last second, we will lose our intended angle - we don't want to be in a situation where we are so vulnerable to something we don't have contro...

How to Train the Split Step ?!?! Drill for Liberos!

One of eight drills I like to use to train the split step for serve reception. If we can get a conscious read and a quicker, more dynamic 'push' towards the serve, I believe we will be incredibly successful in passing both float and jump serves. Why move back after contact? Wouldn't that take you further from the net and you have to go further up to cover etc? Is that just to absorb the ball power so you don't overpass?

    Can someone explain what the problem is with the set at 7:52 (Micah's last set to the oppo)? I listened to the explanation afterward and went back to watch it, but it didn't seem like he twisted to the right much at all. Maybe just the camera angle? Thanks for this btw! One world class setter training another world class setter and we get to get a glimpse!? Brilliant!

    • @DonFranciscoUSF
      @DonFranciscoUSF Před 2 měsíci

      I believe he's trying to tell Micah not to follow through with the rotation when he's setting right, saying that if he turns his hips too far then the ball will go too far right, which is much harder for your attacker to hit. I think it's the same idea as what he was saying at 3:45, just warning about rotating with the whole body as opposed to just the torso. But I could be wrong.

    You say pass on the left hip to avoid passing in the midline. Would you say that after a while of learning to pass on one hip, you should learn to pass on both sides?

    Why is the 2nd and 3rd step going back? I’ve never done this as a libero and the examples shown don’t do this either. The split step should have a slight forward movement, not forward and back.

      Prep step (forward) and then when you jump and the front/back foot just recalibrate in the middle - as we might have to move forward, back or to the sides. Hope this helps my friend.
