Welcome to the Joyous Genealogy channel. My goal is to share my passion for family history with the World. I have a vision that this channel will help me help so many other people connect to their ancestors. I love genealogy and want to learn all that I can and share that with others. There's protection that comes from searching out our dead. In my faith, we do ordinances for the dead. We believe that the ordinances we do for them help them progress so that they can return back to our Heavenly Father. There are many spirits that didn't have a chance to receive the gospel while on this earth so that's why we help them out. They are linked to us and we are linked to them! I really hope you decide to stay and join in the joy of doing genealogy with me.

How to find our Pioneers and the history surrounding the Casper Wyoming Temple.
This week is the open house for the Casper Wyoming Temple. It got me thinking about our pioneers who crossed the the plains to go out west. In this video I talk a little about the Casper Wyoming Temple and the history that surrounds it and how to find your ancestors who crossed the plains to go out west.

What I think is super cool is when I see a DOT out in the ocean and I find out there's an island there with the temple on it. How amazing is it? And whatever does it take to get a temple out in the ocean?
I believe Saints striving to live like Christ will get a temple built anywhere because of their faith.
Oh what is your email for me to contact you directly? Yes I love the temple paintings too. There was one in particular when we shut down for some changes and they changed the paintings and put an awesome one where we have our meeting before shift. It was right behind the pulpit where the speakers would be and it was so distracting. I love that painting
Hi Joni! (Is that how I spell it?) Yes I saw the video Open House. Beautiful!
Hey 👋, my name is spelled Joanie. The foyer and the celestial room were my favorite areas. The art work was gorgeous. What stood out to you?
@@JoyousGenealogist Honestly there was a rug that was pink with flowers that was really pretty
@@CatchTheBuzz1 oh ya that rug in the foyer was the most beautiful riff I’ve ever seen. The round table with the intricate carvings in the celestial room was beautiful too. The carvings on it I think were similar to the the wood at the front desk. I’ve always wondered who they employ to do all the design and customization of all the furniture, lights and decor?
I don’t know if I’m advanced or intermediate. I’m certainly not a pro. This year I’ve added over 2000 individuals and many thousands of changes made. I kind of have a lot of other things going on too. I really like the new source linker. It’s helped to correct so many problems. It’s fairly user friendly.
I’m new to your channel. Subscribed. I’m a genealogy nerd too.
Welcome!! I am genealogy nerd also. Do you use a software program for your genealogy research like roots magic or Family tree maker and if so, which one do you use or find most user friendly?
@@JoyousGenealogist I just use good ol’ family tree and ancestry and findagrave. I’m hoping to learn more from your content and others which may enable me to be more proficient.
@@mikepeterson7092 well I hope I don’t disappoint. I keep learning new stuff all the time. Seems like there’s a new tool or feature every time I log into family search or ancestry.
You’re awesome
Awe thank you for your kindness 😊
Congratulations! DNA test is something I need to do.
Thank you. I’m going to start having giveaways for dna kits, maybe you’ll win one 🙌🏼
Hey Jojo congratulations!
Thank you
Thank you!
There are some parts you should clip out in order to make a more enjoyable experience for viewers. All the talking to yourself and lagging pc bits are a waste of time.
@@lionheart830 thanks for the feedback, I totally agree, I typically try to edit out what I can but don’t always have time to do so.
Since I have been going to the temple every week ( with few exceptions) it would be cool to do a collaboration video with you sometime talking about our experiences and others, and the effects with the church etc and some Family stories etc
I would love to collaborate with you! Anytime we can share family history and temple experiences we are helping to gather Israel by inspiring others to gather their ancestors.
We are experienced in genealogy and my husband works for our State so he has access to more information which is awesome!
That is awesome!
I am so grateful for Family History and the opportunity that I have to go to the temple reasonably weekly. Even with having 7 kids and 5 still at home. I love Ordinance Ready. I feel you about time to do videos Joni! I have a job too and chickens and we do beekeeping. And we have 3 CZcams channels! 1 that's Catch the Buzz, Faith based media and family. 2nd Love Notes From God, my channel about being a temple worker, my missions, seeing God's love notes to us in every day life. And Lord of the Sting that's about beekeeping! It's such an exciting opportunity to speak to and with people and learn and share. PS, I always like, comment and subscribe 😉
Wow! You are an inspiration to me. That’s a lot on your plate.
I consider myself a beginner. Just following my promptings.
Thanks for your comment Chris. Way to go in following the spirit 👍
What a marvelous trip! I’m waiting to see your report!
Never heard of it
Lucky!
Thank you for your channel. I just watched your video on when you went to the temple. So I've had this impression to start a youtube channel about family history. I find that it's a lot like what you are doing. I should have known about this because I saw you on Christian Homestead, but its important to follow your promptings which is what I am learning. Keep up the good work!
That’s wonderful news to hear that you’re going to start your own channel for family history. I’m happy to help in any way I can. Good luck job in following your prompting. We need as many saints who are willing to counteract those anti-Mormons out there and there’s a lot of them.
I struggle from time to time with depressive disorder, and I knew exactly what you were talking about when you said you have been doing all the right things to invite the Spirit to be with you, yet you haven't been able to feel it for a while. I had years of my life like that and it's such a sore unpleasant trial. With the depression, it just feeds into the feelings of failure or just the feeling of what must I be doing wrong even though you know you actually are doing your best, etc. Just wanted you to know I've experienced it and that I've learned from talking to others, it's a common characteristic to depression. I'm glad it seems you're making progress in therapy and are starting to feel the Spirit again. I just wanted you to know you're not alone. 😊
Thank-you for sharing this with me. You described perfectly how I’ve felt. I’m sorry you have dealt with this for longer periods. It’s awful and I understand who it’s hard to come out of. I started taking medication which has helped me. Dealing with trauma makes it worsen for me but I want to work through the trauma so I can live a happier life. I will keep you in my prayers. If you can, go to the temple as much as possible or do family history work, it has helped strengthen me and I know it will you to.🙏🏼
Thank you Joni! Recently I have come across people that have been added as a husband or wife with no sources and then I check into it and it makes no sense. But it's not easy to just remove someone especially when there are kids. So frustrating. It's sad too because of how many names get done at the temple that shouldn't be whether because of mistakes like this or duplicates. I'm glad people are trying. I pray whenever I do a merge or am not sure. I love it when I find missing children. Sealed 3 families yesterday. I'm only 6 minutes in. Thanks for this information
Thanks for your comment. They’re making merging and unmerging relationships easier. If you go to the parent and child relationship (pencil icon next to a persons name) on a person’s detail section you can remove and edit those child and parent relationships which helps in fixing those relationship mistakes. That’s awesome you sealed 3 families yesterday. Performing sealings are my favorite. Happy searching to you and let me know how I can help you in anyway with your research. 😀
Your eyes and hair color are just like my mom’s. She’s in the Spirit World close by, so I very much appreciate being reminded of her 😊 thank you for sharing!
Awe, That’s a very sweet compliment, thank you. 🙏
Good video! I actually understand! Lol! I saw it come up this morning and had to check it out. Well done, my friend!
Awesome! Thank you! I spent a lot of time on this one to get it right.
@@JoyousGenealogist it shows!
Thank you for sharing.. I like the beautiful picture of the temple in the background. You are absolutely right; it feels different when we do not sense the presence of the Holy Ghost. When we are accustomed to feeling it constantly and suddenly do not, it can indeed feel strange. I have learned to pray and reflect during these times, asking if there is something I need to repent for that might be causing this absence. Nevertheless, Christ's extended hands always lift me up and help me get back on track. I hope you are doing well. Dr. I
Great video! Thanks for all the great family history info. I need it!! I love the temple and I’m so grateful to be able to help my ancestors. Keep up the most important work!
Awe thanks. I get excited when people share their love for family history and the temple with me. The spirit of Elijah is contagious! 🙌🏼 I hope you can join us on Sunday 😃

I'm going to have to watch in the morning. Missed your announcement.
Ok I'll talk to you soon I'm sure. I know today was a rough day for you, I love you 🥰 and hope you're doing ok
I like this presentation. The concept of heritage takes on a profound meaning when linked to the spiritual realm. By connecting our genealogy with heaven, we are reminder of the eternal aspect of our identity and lineage. It's a poignant reminder that our true heritage is not only grounded in Christ but also extends beyond earthly boundaries, reaching towards the celestial realm. Thanks for this presentation. -DR.I
feel better
I like your guest comment on relationships, notably the exploration of divorce and the endeavor to escape a violent relationship. This explains the profound reflection on the transformative potential inherent in seemingly adverse experiences. Knowing that individuals may unwittingly navigate such relationships explains a universal human condition. Despite the inherent pain associated with these circumstances, there is a recognition that the divine orchestrates lessons from such trials, thereby turning experiences for individual betterment. This transformative dimension not only fortifies one's resilience but also underscores the redemptive potential inherent in adversities, as Christ, in benevolence, crafts instructive lessons from the diverse tapestry of human experiences. The expressed gratitude for sharing this narrative shows how relationships' are multifaceted and the intrinsic value embedded within ostensibly painful junctures, emphasizing the profound learning and spiritual enrichment that can arise through a divine perspective. DR.I
Watching this video where you shared your temple experience was truly moving for me. I appreciated how you spoke passionately about the gospel of Christ and your unwavering belief in Him. Your willingness to open up and share personal experiences added authenticity to the narrative, making it more relatable. The account of your baptism into The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints struck a chord with me, evoking a deep sense of emotion. I was touched by your understanding of the restoration of the priesthood in these latter days, showing a profound connection to the core tenets of faith in Christ. What stood out the most was the constant focus on Christ throughout the video, grounding the narrative and emphasizing the transformative power of the gospel in their life. Dr. I
Thank you for your comments, on this video and on Betty’s. It brings me joy that our stories can touch others. That’s why Betty and I share our trials and our path back to Christ with others. Your comments inspire me to continue sharing my testimony with others. Thank you and God bless you

Thanks, Joanie! I'm planning on digging in today! And if you're late to the party, I missed the invitation! Lol!
Did you know about William Bingham? He sounds interesting. I bet there’s more info on him out there.
I'm still running FTM 2012.... Wondering if it's time for an update.
It would be worth it. They have sales pretty often. If you sign up for their news letter you’ll be notified when they are having a sale. They usually hold their sales for 3 days so they are easy to miss.
@@JoyousGenealogist There running an upgrade offer now but it looks like FTM 2019 is the latest? I did subscribe to the newsletter as suggested. Thanks for the info!!
Yeah, 2019 is the latest but they do upgrades to that version all the time so it is up to date even though it sounds like it’s 5 years old.
@@JoyousGenealogist Thanks for this great info. I'll be swapping out computers within the year. I'll pick up a 2019 version in the meantime (I like having discs... I'm old) and have it on hand so the transfer of my FTM files should go smoothly. Thanks again!!!
@@mcgeorgerl your welcome
I’ve recently been unable to log into family search within the family tree maker app. FTM informs me they know of the problem. Is everyone having this problem?
I haven’t tried to login from FTM to family search recently so I’m not sure. That’s something I’ll look into this week though and respond back to you if I learn of the issue.
Thanks JoJo. Watching your video was a real hoot...loved it. ❤ I've had Family Tree Maker since 1990. I've got FTM2019 but finding now it's gotten incredibly overwhelming to use. I've switched to the new Rootsmagic9 (RM9). They've got lots of videos watch. So far I'm happy. Wondering wondering I keep wondering if Mackiev will be launching a new FTM2024 at next month's RootsTech stravaganza😊
Hi Jonie. Do you know the best Polish sources for family history?
After pondering about this since my first reply to this comment I would start with the research wiki page and search Polish records. It will let you know what’s available and will also let you know what records aren’t available and for what reason. They’ll usually have links to the sources of the records that are available. Hope this helps 😀
I started with FTM back when it was with Banner Blue. It just keeps getting better with each update. I originally got it on CDs around twenty-five years ago. Amazing program!
Wow, that’s cool you’ve been using it for this long. You probably know a lot more than I do.
FS can be a mess. What is the quickest and easiest way to make sure FS matches everything in a tree you have elsewhere without completely losing your mind?
I use family tree maker to keep in sync with family’s search. It will update with ancestry also so they all stay up to date. My heritage syncs with family search up to 8 generations also. The genealogy software is getting better at doing this with family search! 😀 I was able to upload over 110,000 relatives from familysearch into family tree maker and from there I uploaded that tree into ancestry. I have a video on how I did that also In the family tree maker playlist. It’s pretty neat! So now I work from that familysearch tree I uploaded into ancestry from FTM because they’re all synced together now
