Great video and appreciate how well you inform. I know you’re a kubota guy, but I don’t understand how the kubota tranny whine doesn’t bother you! Especially considering you mention you appreciate the quiet implement.
Not helpful to keep swinging the camera. I got dizzy
Great informative video . I did my auger by myself. I had to take it appart and put it on in peices then I made a stand for it so I can put it on and take it off easily by myself . I add weight to it to help it dig. easier easier
THANKS NEIL,BUT SHOULD AT LEAST HAVE A SIDE AND REAR SCREEN!
Please develop a 1” thick full length steel skid plate for my b2601. Bullet proof protection and lowest possible center of gravity. I require no reimbursement for the idea, I’ll be the first one to buy Thank you in advance
Thanks this was useful.
It seems to me that the hydraulic fluid is circulated though the frame beam in the front of the mower. Does this help with cooling?
I don’t see much information on “ how to buy a tractor”. I like all of his other videos, but this one is doesn’t fit the title. It’s him rattling on and on and on. But hardly no advice on what to ask about., or the overall process and conversation lead up to a decision and purchase this should’ve been labeled just a massive description of options.
Wow front suspension! Nice! Now they should make tractor with suspension
If memory serves me.. Dad bought a 273 Maybe the number was 279? in the 70's. It is a long time ago... It has a complicated assembly of U-joints, an early work around to a CV joint. In the first year we made some 10,000bales and it missed less than 10 and SOME were from the belt thrower 'burning' through the twine on the bales if it was thin hay when the bale was just at the belts. And, the lateral movement of the hay was by a mechanism similar to a pantograph/ swing arm thing
Seems crazy not to have a full cab and AC. Here in UK cabless tractors are only legal with small tractors., very rare. And here most tractors have front linkage now, so a 3 meter flail mower on front and a reach mower (hedge cutter) with a 1.2 or 1.5 meter head on rear of tractor , no-one would use such a small tractor. Needs to be 140 hp +. Most are 150 hp+
Sorry I didn’t see this when it first came out. I live in the Pacific Northwest and have a BX23S. My first major addition was a Wallenstein FX40 logging winch that runs off of the PTO. A neighbor dropped several large cedars with the intention of bringing these up to his property and sawing into planks. Typically, the logs were 20-40 feet long and up to 3 ‘ at the butt. Most were down at the bottom of a fairly steep ravine. The BX and logging winch had no problem dragging the logs up to where the mill was set up. With this mill, it wasn’t necessary to lift the log onto the mill, you only had to get it positioned on the loader and it did the rest of the heavy lifting. John, I think you would find a logging winch on your Kubota would serve you well in your milling endeavor. And Neil, as exceptional as your videos always are, I found the one you did on a logging winch did not do justice to that piece of equipment.
Great video mate. Very useful for beginners 💯
Man spends tens of thousands of dollars on what is effectively a diesel lawn tractor then cries about fuel economy and spending maybe hundreds of dollars on fuel per year...
you definitely want to research a product via people that have them and mechanics. The (red company that chased Road Runners) pissed off our mechanics costing them near 60 units in sales after they told purchasing to not bring a single one in the shop door again for the way the mechanics were treated at the dealership. only takes 30 secs to rewrite a RFQ.I guess.
at 14:45 you say in a lot of ways these kubota diesels aren't the best out there? As and owner of the ZD1211 since 2017 and heavy farm use I completely Disagree! They are the best I've seen!
Can you make a video showing a rotary cutter tun out front while simultaneously running a flail behind to get a double cut in one pass?
I bought a ZD1211 brand new in 2017 for $14,7000 that I use to mow 10 acres weekly on my farm. Never understood how Kubota can justify now charging $21,000 for the 1211 and NOT install the same air ride seat that the 1611 has! I think someone willing to drop 21k on a machine like this has paid more than enough to get the air ride seats. Not to mention 1211's are the most popular Kubota diesels for farmers like myself, I don't know anyone with a 1611 and the 1011 and 1021 is too small and price difference doesn't justify them over the 1211 for only $1,800 more! DEF/REGEN really turn farmers off, we hate that crap and will avoid it at all cost! I know lots of farmers who won't even buy new tractors, they look for 20 year old tractors without all the crap on them that cost them a fortune and slows them down from getting work done. Kubota needs to swallow their pride on the 1211's and give us our monies worth with the Air ride seats! Ridiculous!!!
I wouldn,t mow without a cab! If you hit a nest of hornets, your in for a ride of your life!
Neil, this was awesome! I would like to see more content on highway mowers but also things like forestry cages for utility tractors if possible. The state DOT here uses John Deere, the county road department uses JD and New Holland, and the water department uses Kubota. I've always wondered why they only seem to use certain brands and certain models within those brands. Thanks for putting these videos together for us! I look forward to many more.
Why is front PTO hard to add to USA tractors when its fairly standard on tractors with the same frame in the rest of the world
I had a chunk of 2x4 thrown from a rotary (batwing) mower here in Indiana that almost hit the truck.
Flails leave a nice cut but are far more susceptible to damage from hitting rocks or stumps or other significant debris than a rotary cutter. The tractor shown here doesn’t have as wide a stance I’d expect for steep side hills.
The flail is on the downside of the slope so it would have to be almost past vertical to roll
@@ThingyGoos What happens when you are on a steep slope and encounter an obstacle or become stuck and need to raise the flail? Most roadside mowing tractors I see have a wide rear stance.
Cool video for sure. But here in the corner of Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky they all run deer cab tractors with bat wings. It’s pretty cool to see what different regions run though.
I used to drive trucks and deliver equipment for our local New Holland dealership. Down here in Richmond Virginia, it seems like New Holland is the preferred tractor for highway mowing. I haven't seen a Case tractor used in a really really long time. Looks like New Holland knows how to build a highway mowing machine.
New Holland Workmaster is a durable, dependable no frills tractor. Will last for a lot of hard house if it is maintained.
I had a problem with squirrels chewing into my attic. I soaked cotton balls with fox urine and put them in a plastic container with holes in it so it doesn't dissipate too fast. It's been over a year and I haven't seen any squirrels on my roof since.
Very helpful, BX2380 here, I just changed to a QH ballast box with close to 500#, I can grab and drop it quickly. Since it relieves the front axil, I’m inclined to stay at that weight for front implements. Thanks.
I have never seen a highway tractor without a cab.
A tractor that will never be clean again. Just grease, fill it up and go.
There’s a lot of orange ones along the PA turnpike.
Yes, orange new Holland's. They will do custom colors.
Always remember the Alamo
We had a Bill in Australia, worked for Gendore farm equipment, Keith McCloud, he was a god with small square balers, had a son Rodger who was just as good.
Here in britain and ireland the flail on the rear be in the front and the side 1 be on the rear
Nice Mowing set up Thanks again
Can the rubber tracks be changed out for the steel tracks by just switching them or are there more parts that need to be changed ?
I am wanting to upgrade to a sub-compact flail b/c I'll be converting my ditches to wildflowers & not mow from September 1st - June 1st. I only have 23hp though & I know I'll need to be changing the hydraulic filter on schedule b/c I can feel the difference, I think my air is just too humid.
I'd love a flail mower for my Kubota BX2680, but those mowers are ridiculously expensive. I think Betsco sells one but even then its about $3,000 by the time you add in shipping and delivery and liftgate service. I'd rather have the flail mower over a rotary cutter....one reason is a flail mower doesn't stick 6+ feet out the back of the tractor, and the other reason is I don't care to try mowing down trees, I don't mow anything like that, just a couple of pastures for customers....so a flail would be a better option rather than tearing up my mid mount mower.
another great video , thank you for sharing your knowledge and expertise
Nice details and specialty provider.
New Holland is King with highway set ups! Even back in the Ford days. Del Dot operators here in Delaware would protest with an open station like that! 😅 My father made a mid mount Mo Trim long arm work on a 1979 Ford TW20! Looks factory!
Nobody cuts highways here without a cab tractor
Same in Delaware. They would riot!
Eastern Nc, most of the sub contractors use non cab tractors.
Agreed. This was the first thought I had. I get the added cost of a cab being an issue, but if you're buying Alamo stuff, it seems like a no-brainer. I can not believe they can find decent operators. I would not want to deal with the elements, noise, dust and debris from such mowing operations, but whatever, I still appreciate Neil's content and perspective.
I agree, I own a mid 90s era caseih tractor with the Alamo setup we use for mowing edges of our fields and such. Has just a canopy and I certainly wouldn't want to spend 8 hours a day in it!
Yup, used to drive one. Changing blades was fun too. They also make an interstater. Mowers on either side and one on the 3pt.
Safety is paramount. Well worth $$$

As a single woman who needed to purchase an excavator to do extensive landscaping on my property, I am thrilled to watch this video! Saving money and learning a skillset not only saved me time, expense but I CAN now teach other women NOT to be afraid of using tools and equiptment. Times have changed so much for a lot of us women being widows & single females to become self sufficient out of necessity.
I got this a few years ago with my L3302 and I've been using it almost every time I use the tractor. Invaluable.
