    If the original plan had been followed the Whithy and Scarborough Railway would have had a station on the eastern side of the harbour with a steep climb up to where the rest of the line would have been.

    A Whitby ship named SS NEMESIS was built 1879 Cursed ship with multiple fatalities and injuries and collisions breakdowns animals killed and almost blown up An obscure ship with rich history of death by misadventure and failed technology

    Walked across it a couple of years ago from the site of the old station to the station at Hawsker,a lovely walk & then a pint & fish & chips back at Whitby,the whole line went to Scarborough,through the Scarborough goods yard (where Sainsbury's is now) & continued through to Scarborough station via the now closed Falsgrave tunnel.As I remember the Larpool viaduct also featured in an episode of Heartbeat
