Kubota M6-131 pulling Kuhn FC3560 TLD. Field was corn last year with a thick stand of grass under the corn all year. We got the field this year and decided to not restart it for grass because there was so much there already. This first crop was just to get more of the corn stubble off the field. Given to a cattle guy who came and round baled it for us. Next two cuttings will be small squared.

I tried to cut and bale my first crop really early to avoid seed stems in Orchardgrass. I believe I cut in mid May. We had a nice dry week, fire warnings actually, and baled it on the 4th day after cutting. Seemed nice and crunchy on baling day. I think what happened was that all the seed heads were formed or forming and were inside all the stems still. So they had a lot of moisture that couldn...
Spreading Powder Lime

Spreading Hi-Cal powder lime, which is dust collected at a cement plant. Works well for raising the PH, is cheap, but makes for grumpy neighbors on spreading day.
Hotsaw windrowing trees and brush for land clearing

Clearing 15 acres adjacent to one of my fields to make a bigger field. The woods had enough value to pretty much break-even with the rest of the costs of destumping with an excavator then bulldozing everything. I ran the excavator and hired out the dozing. If you were to hire out everything, you would lose money on land clearing, no doubt.

    Do you still have this setup? I just bought one and have a 565 baler. How is the accumulator hooked up to the baler?

    • @andygroeschl
      @andygroeschl Před 3 měsíci

      The wagon hitch on the baler needs to be shortened and turned 90 degrees. Then drill a small hole on the opposite side of baler for the other support arm

    And some of my alfalfa hay that happens quite a bit where I’ll be bailing it’ll be testing out at 16% moisture in a day later it’s like 30% if they’re stored right they still keep amazingly well for the most part happens only on one field that I bail

    Did you fertilize before 1st as well? What do you figure your return per acre was?

    • @andygroeschl
      @andygroeschl Před 3 lety

      We fertilize before each cut, usually shoot for 50-60 pounds of actual N per cut plus 30 pounds DAP, 80 potash. Soil sample every year and usually modify first application to adjust anything soil test calls for. Lime every other year, usually 2 tons/acre. Gross per acre is easy math. Net per acre is probably negative since we're expanding very quickly (new equipment, new shed, Bale Baron). Gross is around $700-800/acre. Fertilizer averages $1-1.50/bale. Lime is 50 cents per bale on lime years. By the time you take out equipment payments, land rent, insurance, trading equipment, seems like we work for minimum wage all summer, always expecting nect year to be better. We went from 12,000 bales in 2018 to 24,000 bales this year. First gen farmers. Expensive to buy everything but market seems nearly endless for a great product.

      Probably Lacrosse Forage and Turf. Potomac. This field was about 5-6 years old at the time of the video

    By shortening your bales and moving the trip arm back accordingly your able to run 15? Local dealer said they have a kit for it and you need upgraded push over arm (spring loaded end)

    • @andygroeschl
      @andygroeschl Před 4 lety

      Chris Blake yes, our bales are 32-34 inches, about 40-50 pounds. Trip arm is one or two holes in front of the furthest back position. The upgraded, spring loaded push over arm isn’t necessary but would get rid of headaches when the push over arm is coming back down and catches the front of the fourth bale

    When and what kind of fertilizer did you use?

    • @andygroeschl
      @andygroeschl Před 5 lety

      Fertilized on 7/19/2018, cut 53 days later. Fertilized with 133 pounds each of granular AMS, Potash, and DAP. 400 pounds per acre total. Actual yield off the 7.5 acre field was 340 bales at 45-50 pounds each.

    What model is it that you are running? We have a 1000, but it only handles 10 bales at a time?

    • @andygroeschl
      @andygroeschl Před 6 lety

      Mid Michigan Hay I think it is a 1000. Our bales are 32-34 inches long so that three just barely work on the Hoelscher and fill up a gooseneck nicely.
