Maria Khoreva (Mariinsky Ballet) as Paquita, in a variation from the pas de trios in Act 2 of Paquita. The pas de trois is more commonly seen as part of the grand pas in the final act of Paquita. However, In the Yuri Smekalov production of Paquita, the pas de trios is danced in Act 2, outside the inn of a rich widow who has invited Paquita, her friend Cristina and Andres to dance as a diversion for her guests and to alleviate her sorrow.

Music is by Riccardo Drigo, originally called "L'Amour". This solo is 1 of about 11 variations composed by Riccardo Drigo to supplement Mikhail Ivanov's score for Petipa's 1888 ballet "La Vestale" ("Vestalka" in Russian). This variation soon found its way into other ballets, such as the "Paquita" Grand pas as well as "Le Roi Candaule" as a variation for Maria Gorshenkova. Another of Drigo's variations for "La Vestale" that is still performed today is Kitri's famous variation as Dulcinea in the dream scene of "Don Q".
There are so many beautiful ballerinas at corps and coryphee level at Mariinsky - how fabulous she is . Love this!

This is one of my favourite interpretations of this variation, not only for the quality of Krasnokutskaya's dancing, but also for the sheer joy of dance that shines through her dancing and that she communicates to the audience. Beautiful!

This is the original variation for the Prima ballerina of the Grand pas, originally for Ekaterina Vazem by Minkus in 1881. The early 20th century répétiteur labels this variation as "Johansson" for whatever reason.
Isn't she lovely? She was able to show off her formidible technique in this variation with ease.

@@karenjones9961 Yes, that is absolutely true! I saw her live leading the corps de ballet of Mariinsky in Bayadere shades scene. She was exquisite and stood out far above the rest of the corps dancers. I have no idea why she was not more favored by the ballet company. Her student's are lucky indeed!
