Here is a VERY good running AMC 360 build. It has a Herbert Custom Ground cam similar to the Summit 8600, Scorpion Roller Rockers, Wiseco forged pistons in a balanced rotating assembly, Summit version of the MSD stand alone electronic ignition and an Edelbrock Performer intake. Runs pretty darn good with our little start stand 600 carb.

This remarkably responsive 401 has pretty much every readily available high performance goody available for AMC engines including Wiseco forged pistons, Edelbrock heads, Herbert higher end roller cam, Johnson roller lifters, Scorpion roller rockers, Torker intake, fully balanced and blueprinted rotating assembly, extra capacity oil pan and the list goes on and on. It has great throttle response.

This video shows how a camshaft is ground incorrectly, and as a result is a prime candidate for camshaft failure. The camshaft grind and lifters are supposed to work together so that the slight slope on the camshaft will cause the hydraulic flat tap lifter to rotate. It idles amazingly well for a rough tune on the new Holley 390 CFM carbs and a pretty good size roller cam on this fresh build with less than 45 minutes on it.
