Thanks LeslieinTN:) You don't need to use Clove oil if you don't want to. There are lots of fragrance oils that speed trace. I used it to make sections of soap that thickened quickly after flowing through the strainer because the soap was very liquid for this pour. It helped to keep the soap colors from fusing into one, homogeneous color. The resulting look is a combination of very delicate swirls from very liquid soap in the midst of patches of white soap. I hope that makes sense. I also like the fragrance of clove oil.

Really, it is both together. The very small amounts of color that dissolved in various places give the faint gradients of color. If I use different colors or more color, I wouldn't get the same effect. I have made many translucent soaps that didn't look opalescent. I suppose that we think of opalescence as a property where as we rotate the object we see different colors or patterns as it is rotated. Here, the light shining through the soap allows the impression because as you turn the soap or the light source around the soap, the faint colors seem to shift.

Yes I always add fragrance or essential oil to my translucent soap after saponification. I am just learning how different ones affect the color. They don't affect how fast the soap hardens, unlike with cold process soap. This is one great advantage in my opinion. It seems that all fragrances are likely easy to work with. But too much will cause clouding. For that reason, I don't add it to all the soap. I add it to just parts so that I can retain some of the clearest properties of the soap for its beauty.😃❤

Oh that will be very interesting! I'm sure you will check the lye calculator to make sure you use the right amount of lye for the tallow. I am eager to know what happens. Be sure to be ready for the "volcano" part. I stir with a spoon when it starts and it always calms down, but you might want to have a big bowl ready just in case...

Thank you, Gray UK💝 I think it is pretty cool that you can make a fully saponified, translucent soap in about 20 min. If I had poured this into a mold or molds, it would have been ready to use in the time it takes to cool to room temperature.

Hi Noelle! Yes, I think you could. I personally prefer to use cold process soap over melt and pour soap to wash with, that's the reason I have experimented with making hybrids of the two.

I think something like 90% of the amber of the world comes from this region. If you read my description, you might also see more of why I picked this name (Latvia is one of the countries in this region where amber comes from and so, it appears to be special to some of the people who grew up there). Also, the reason I love this recipe is that it does not sweat or have that glycerin dew that you are asking about. I live near Houston and the humidity routinely climbs up above 90% during part of the day. Even so, this soap remains lovely and dry-just as if it was a cold process soap.
