Wow how have i only come across this a year later? Im going into my second year of marching im a freshman btw (our marching band allows the best 8th graders to march typically 4-5) and love it our band is the Hart County Bulldog marching band we are a triple A superior level band

How do you get the notes to slot like that?
I like to start slow and build speed. Slotting is mainly the idea of flexibility and how we can get around on the instrument. Mix and match both staccato and slurs.

how do you avoid burnout as a freshman in high school? this is my first year double blocking and i can't make it through a band class without crying, but i love band
Great question! I think you must surround yourself with motivated individuals. It is clear you have a passion for band, which is the most important. Music at the high school band level can sometimes be uninspiring so it is important to seek out private lesson instructors in the area. This will give you the opportunity to get into more involved repertoire and take your playing to the next level! I hope this helps and is just a suggestion on how to overcome burnout!
