Dear Theodosia but both verses are sung simultaneously

A duet with counter-melody - starts a bit disjointed and then weaves together more and more. Edit, December 9th, 2023: Because this is on my weird alt account, I didn't see that this had 40k views until the video was recommended to me on my main account! Glad that folks enjoy it. I made this just for myself because I was curious what it would sound like, then posted it when I found it on my com...
If sondheim wrote this song, it would 100% be sung like this
this is perfection
This works so perfectly. This is such a beautiful song and the duet is wonderful.
THE "WHEN YOU SMILE" WAS PERFECT czcams.com/video/io7nP27KvHw/video.html
wtf dude I glanced at this from my fyp and read it as “Dear Euthanasia”
EUTHANASIA BY WILL WOOD
I love the symbolism of the song on how becoming a parent changes you. Burr always wants to be more than he is like Hamilton and it's like a switch changes him and he pushes himself to take that step and he's singing fast and snappy like Hamilton, not slow and calculated like normal, and Hamilton finally takes a breath and sees his world slow down because he has loved his life not knowing if he would make it past 20 and he writes like he's running out of time and makes fast and rash decisions, but when he becomes a father it's no longer about him and he finally takes a moment to slow down for his son
I love this but I understand why he separated it. If I was hearing this version as the only version, I would lose half of Burr's lyrics while focusing on Hamilton and vice versa. Both versions are made as an intentional mirror of each other and the message and feelings, but the final cut is more coherent and clearer, especially when it is one song in a very long line of near constant singing, sung to an audience that has probably not heard anything you're singing before. Some musicals have lyrics that are very difficult to catch on the first go-around, especially with the visuals also distracting you, and you lose some of the nuance until you see it again or listen to the OST over and over. This would have been lost.
this majestic frfr
I feel like a 1:05 if ensemble continued burr and hamilton's verse of dear theodosia/phillip while hamilton and burr sang together, it would be beautiful aswell
this makes so much sense, since lin does that "everybody sings their own line and then they all sing them together" thing constantly (non-stop, farmer refuted, 96,000, blackout, probably others lol)
yeasssssss
this song is SO CUTE i wanna sing it to my children some day
I’ve listened to this every day since I found it
This is too goooodd 😭😭😭 (But I'm guessing the reason they didn't choose this, cause it would probably hard to understand both at the same time)
_Burr sing faster_ and *Hamilton sings slower.*
Yeah it fits becuse hamilton is more of a think it over carfully and slowly and Burr is more rushing like ther is not enugh space for the both of us
Yeah, it fits alot. It's a very cool detail, I really like Lin-Manuel's symbolic (stuff) he puts in his songs.
I love how in this song Hamilton and Burr’s personality got switched. Burr can’t stop talking about his daughter, whereas Hamilton is speechless.
“mom why did you name my sister Tulip?” “because your father and i love tulips” “oh ok, thanks” “you’re welcome, *Dear Theodosia but both verses are sung simultaneously*”
HAHAHAH 😂 This kind of joke gets me all the time
I'm scared of having children but this song is making me want to have kids.
1:04 the swell at "you will come of age with our young nation" music is such a beautiful thing, lin's mind !!
This is so beautiful! I would have loved to see it performed this way live.
Sobs(respectfully)
THIS IS AMAZING I LOVE IT I NEED THIS IN SPOTIFY
It’s ACTUALLY BETTER
COUNTERPOINT + HAMILTON WE MUSIC NERDS HAVE WON TODAY
coming back now that i realized why the start put me off; for the first time in this whole musical, burr is singing _faster_ than alex. really reflects how their character foils flip because their motivations changed. now the goal is give the world to their children, and that means very different things to them.
0:35-The harmony 🫶
Is it just me or is Burr way quieter
i wish they kept this in! and im pretty sure if they did they were supposed to have elizas sing the chords at the end with burr and hamilton
0:33 the way their voices lined up was heavenly
it would honestly be better if burr can be heard by the left ear and hamilton by the right ear
I love this but, I understand why he kept them separate. The final version allows a space for both of them to share their love for their child and then show their similarities by singing together. Imagine what it’s like for the people hearing this for the first time. It would be a little overwhelming to hear two melodies and pick apart what the song is conveying. It’s giving more background on Burr without distractions. Allowing the audience to take in the information with issues. ❤❤❤
This made me so emotional for some reason
It's a shame that such a beautiful song isn't that long or called back to in other songs
HELP THIS IS SO FUCKING BEAUTIFUL
"I'll make the world safe and sound for you" just ❤
the “when you smile” part gave me chills 😭 (0:35)
i love burrs verse
One of my favourites songs in Hamilton
this scratches my brain in all the right ways
I would actually like these 2 particular songs if they sounded like this
Actually, it's just one song. Burr and Alex's verses are just combined.
I won't ever get tired of listening to this!
A nice piece dedicated to a father's love and commitment in raising his kids
i love this bro.
it would’ve been better this way
I can see why it was elongated, unless you added the kids or the wives for another verse, there wasn’t more that needed to be said by these dads and that would be a very short song
Having them together makes the song sounds so much more emotional, like I'm literally about to cry
why did l actually cry listening to this 🥲
.
This got my 9yo cousin in tears 😭
that mf done even know bout taxes yet he think everything sunshine and rainbows lil mf gon lose his shit when he find out abt algebra 😭♎️ tell him to read a libra (book in spanish) [i’m not mexican]
this is one of the best songs in hamilton. im surprised it isnt sung to kids more often, its so sweet and specific you could sing it to 2 kids and replace the 2 names with their names <3
I sing it to my kids ^__^
and replace some of the lines to be more relevant to you... "my father wasn't around" 😬
