    I was a boarding housemistress and was aware of all of this. I did it for 5 years and realised that boarding school is a really bad choice. And not only for the children in the school but also for the children of the house mistress who are neglected while you spend all your time with the children in your house. It is child abuse and it should be stopped. Parents should not have the choice to do this. It not only damages the person themselves but also the whole of society that they end in positions of power over.

    Given that the reality of cruising is that you spend 90% or more of your time NOT sailing - in other words in port, in a marina, or otherwise at anchor - there should be plenty of opportunity for children to 'get off the boat'. And there are plenty of other families who manage this balance reasonably well. Whatever went wrong in Suzanne's life it's nothing inherent in the cruising lifestyle - just the way her parents seem to have gone about it.

      How about shifting your life's focus from scapegoat to conqueror? My journey has not been as long as yours, but after decades of narcissistic abuse, I'm determined to heal and give myself everything I need to feel safe in my mindbody. I Will speak truth, respectfully, whether people accept or reject it. But I will be the person for myself that no one can be for me. I've also cut out every narc from my life, including my mother and am not interested in a romantic relationship. I focus on healing my nervous system and people have been commenting on how good I look. It is well worth it.

    • @superdeluxesmell
      @superdeluxesmell Před 3 měsíci

      The word “client” is typically used in place of the more traditional “patient” to avoid the implication that there is something wrong with a person who seeks therapy. What word would you use instead?

    • @linotte_
      @linotte_ Před měsícem

      Love your focus on acknowledging the personhood of the person receiving therapy. I think, best case scenario, the word “client” emphasizes that there is still a power dynamic between psychologist and psychologized, and a transaction occurring if not always monetary. So it’s a matter of the professional reminding themselves of an obligation to those they serve. But you’re absolutely right to question this, most don’t take it as seriously as they should.

    • @Opusdocusmagnum
      @Opusdocusmagnum Před měsícem

      @@linotte_ This marketing language refers to a person who constantly seeks out a therapist but never ends up divorcing him because he is a "client" addicted to analysis. This language implies that the cure of the patient means no financial gain for the psychologist or therapist.
