Fitting a steel beam
Supporting a wall for a structural knock through is a job that you have to get right!! In this video I show how I like to take measures to provide support by acrow props and needles and also a load bearing stud wall to hold all the existing loads over us
The beam is around 500kg and is a 203 x 203 × 46 and it has a 10mm plate welded to the top
Please seek professional advice and correct structural calculations before you embark on any work like this, remember careful planning and assessment of the risk is really important, make sure you know what you are doing!

This is awesome! Do you need to use planed 2x4 or is rough ok? Thanks!
Thank you for the positive feedback using rough timber is fine once you can find some straight ones the planned 2x4 are normally a lot straight
this is absolutely amazing - best media wall Ive seen on youtube! would you mind telling me - what do you use for filling in the gaps between MDF....and where can you buy the pull out drawer kits? (cant get over what a great job you did!)
Thank you so much for your positive feedback When joining two pieces of MDF, you should have a timber behind and use plenty of screws to stop any movement between the two pieces of MDF if you use an epoxy wood filler and then sand after the joint will be seamless For the drawers, I used a heavy duty ball bearing drawer runner you can get them on Amazon and I built the drawers from more MDF Hope this helps any more questions. You can send them my way. Thanks for the feedback. I really appreciate it.
seems like a waste, a wall that size and a 55" tv?... i mean look at the space all around the tv
Hi I couldn’t agree with you more their A bigger TV would’ve looked a lot better. I told the client if I make the wall to suit a 55 inch, they could never get a bigger one they insisted they would never want to get a bigger TV🤷🏻
@@DDconstruction1 Fair enough, at the end of the day it's the clients choice, But great work! looks nice
@@svgmateYT thanks for the positive feedback. I appreciate it. 👍
Why did it not go wall to wall? Looks great btw
Thanks for the positive feedback. I appreciate it.So in front of the media wall, there is a large 5m window and the gap was left for a curtain to slide down the side of the wall. I tried my best to explain to the client that a media wall should be a full wall, but in the end that's what they wanted
You are looking at either an old water/waste drain or a cooling drain. Check the slope of the floor of the tunnel if you can find it. If it slopes downward from or to your house you have a drain.
I cleaned it out until I reached the bottom and checked it with a level there wasn’t much of a fall . I’ve never heard of a cooling drain before
@@DDconstruction1 It is an old-school American trick. You run open pipes underground and the coolness of the earth is transferred to the pipes which using convection transfer the cooled air into a house. When we built our off grid house in the desert we installed a pipe thru the hillside that allowed cool underground air to enter the house. The hot air in the house goes up to the ceiling out the vent pipe and the air pressure equalizing pulls in the cooler air. I have no a/c or heat. The house stays 65 year round. It is mostly underground but the front part is a glassed in greenhouse. This heats the house in the winter. Water pressure comes from a large tank and a solar pump. I have zero utility bills.
That is very interesting extremely clever solution and cost-effective . We’ve never needed to keep our houses cooler here it’s all about trying to stay warm as possible. Your house sounds amazing. I love the idea of Living off grid. Where are you in America?
@@DDconstruction1 I am referring to one of my houses that is in the southwest corner of Texas. I wanted to build an earth ship style house after seeing one on TV. It is built into the edge of a hillside where much if it is underground. I built the walls with old tires stacked and then cobbed to form adobe walls. The front edge is a series of recycled windows that form a greenhouse which warms the place via sunlight in winter. The place being mostly underground stays pretty evenly cool year round. The pipes just use the temp of the ground to maintain cool moving air. The natural convection from HOT rising and COOL sinking creates a current that does a great job maintaining temps. There is no mechanical noise except when the toilet is flushed. This ejecta is used to build a bio mass that is combined with a fish tank and plants in the tank that absorb the 'pollution in the water and the plants in the tank draw their nutrients from the pooping fish and the cleaner water goes into the garden beds which flourish on the improved water. The final flow from the beds goes out to a giant drywell which is filled with charcoal from fires which helps filter the water as it goes back into the ground.
Old land drain?
I cleaned it out until I reached the bottom I put a level in it and there wasn’t much of a fall
If that slotted area underneath the tv is for a soundbar, you're going to absolutely strangle it. You might as well roll it up in some towels.
Haha there is a long story to go with that . Basically before starting, I told the client I need size of the TV size of the Fire and the size of the slot for the soundbar. I learned a valuable lesson never trust somebody with a measuring tape who doesn’t work in the trade. He gave me the wrong size for the TV and sound bar but somehow it worked out that the sound bar fit under the TV and the slot is used for the remote controls Hopefully that answers your concerns haha 👍
nice. how much did u charged for it?
This media wall was a lot of work to do in MDF it was 5k
@@DDconstruction1 looks great
Why did you not go the whole length of the wall?
So in front of the media wall, there is a large 5m window and the gap was left for a curtain to slide down the side of the wall. I also thought it should go all the way across, but the client got their way
What is wrong with you, did the owner did something that you didn't like?
Haha it was a joke on my apprentice when he asked where his hammer was reached into the wet concrete . His face was priceless. 🤣🤣👍
Brother you did your thing. Amazing work.🫶🏽
Thanks for the positive feedback I appreciate it 👍
Great Job👌
Thanks I appreciate the positive feedback 👍
Did you build the floating shelfs or where brought?
Hi yes I built the shelves from the same material if you look on my channel, there is a separate video showing how the shelves were made . The video is floating shelf with a secret .
How did you fit the lights?
Hi so I got an electrician to do the LEDs. The power is behind the TV for them
Looks brilliant why the gap though near the wall what's the reason
So in front of the media wall, there is a large 5m window and the gap was left for a curtain to slide down the side of the wall . I tried my best to explain to the client that a media wall should be a full wall, but in the end that’s what they wanted
@DDconstruction1 new there would be a reason and a good idea to hide away the curtain lovely work m8
Hi, great job! Where are you based? I’d love to have the same done.
Hi thanks appreciate that yes A lot of work went into it. I’m in Ireland 🇮🇪 Where are you from ?
@@DDconstruction1 ahh that’s a shame. I’m in West Sussex England. Great work though. 👍🏻
Thanks for the positive feedback 👍
Looks proper expensive build
Thanks for the positive feedback
I am wanting to build something very similar in my media room! I build a bar and want a media wall to match. How did you come up with the blueprint?
On this job there was an interior designer who did the blueprints . Generally, my clients will show me a photograph normally from Pinterest and I’ll match the design
I noticed you didn’t add wood putty or anything using the mfg? I would like todo this for my media room, I do diy, but a bit scared to tackle this!
Hi I got a painter to finish it and he did use wood filler . It is a lot of work to do it in MDF. I did because they want to drawers. But if you were doing it without the drawers you can build in 2 x 3 and use drywall and plaster finish
Love this. Creating something similar. To hide the seams, would you recommend a drywall compound over wood filler? @@DDconstruction1
@@kmets hi I built it out of MDF because the client wanted the drawers It is a lot of extra work . Yes, you’re right. Building it from 2 x 3 and drywall is faster easier and cheaper and you get a very similar looking media wall 👍
Awesome work. Did you spray paint?
No, it was primed and painted with a roller . Thanks for the positive feedback 👍
was getting anxious for you working so close to that marble slab wall 😂
🤣 it’s still in one piece 👍
What is the material used on the front of the system for a seamless look?
Hey it’s made from MDF
Is it 3/4 inch?
@@danielhuang353 yes it is are you planning on building one?
@@danielhuang353 yes that’s right 👍
Very nice work
Thanks, appreciated it 👍
Can you water the grass to keep it alive for a while
Yes the grass is doing quite well . It Will need to be cut soon ✂️
Aww 🥰😍❤️
If you was in the United States, you could charge more than 2000 for that you did an amazing job.
Maybe someday I’ll go to USA . Thanks for that positive feedback. 👍
Not understanding the 5 inch gap at the right side of the wall. Why not go all the way across?
So in front of the media wall, there is a large 5m window and the gap was left for a curtain to slide down the side of the wall . I also thought it should go all the way across, but the client got their way
@@DDconstruction1 looks good regardless!
👍
stunning
Thank you, I appreciate it 👍
What’s the space in the middle for I thought that’s where sound bar goes? Or is it to vent fire place
Ohhh good spot yes that was for the sound bar. the client was told to provide the size of the sound bar before the unit was built it turns out he doesn’t know how to use a measuring tape 😬
Did you leave a rebate in the shelves for the led lights buddy
Yes that is correct I recessed the LED so there is no glare from the lights when you’re watching the TV
@@DDconstruction1 thanks buddy
👍
Brilliant buddy 🏴👍❤️
Thanks for the positive feedback appreciate it 👍
The led track is a good choice, not sure if you've tried ours yet😁
Thanks. No I have not tried Any of your LED tracks . I have a project coming up to fit oak floating shelves with LED recessed lights What product would you recommend?
this is absolutely amazing.
Thanks for the positivity, I appreciate it 👍
what did you use for lights on shelves?
Hi I used LED strip lights in a diffused track . Hope that helps you . I’m working on a video showing how the LED lights were fitted 👍
Brilliant! Wish I could have seen how you did the led's
Behind the TV there is access panels for the led shelves . I will have to show the electrical for the next media unit . Thanks for the positive feedback 👍
Great build up did all ur woodworking
Yes I did thanks for the positive feedback. 👍
I like the fireplace which model is this ? Great work
Thanks for the positive feedback . It is solution fires LUX 175 Electric Fire $$
Subscribed!! Great job. How did you hide the lines where mdf connected it looks seamless
Thanks for subscribing 👍 I tried to minimise the amount of joints in the MDF but where sheets connect I used wood filler and sanding . Hope that helps.
I like that thanks for that information 😊
Thanks for the positive feedback 👍
I would first check that the hinge was not bent slightly, the door did close ok when first fitted. Ilike the idea of shaveing a fraction off but only after trying a longer screw and perhaps slightly thicker, if you can, also better to put a wedge under the open door when working in order that you don't bend damage the bottom hinge...
Yes I imagine when the door was first fitted, it was all working fine but with a Pine wood door & frame can twist expand over time . yes I agree you should wedge under the door If you have a big gap in this case, the door almost touches the tile went open.
I would never use a plastic rawplug on wood, the other two are fine and yes glue them in as you have done, good job...
Yes Not the intended purpose for a red wall plug however if that’s all you have it does work 👍
How much does something like this cost?
Are you planning it build it yourself? It was 300 for just the materials excluding the fire and TV .
Beautiful build and final product. Well done. I would suggest some PPE. Mdf dust can do some serious damage to lungs and eyes. Stay safe and keep putting out great content!!!
Thanks for the positive feedback . Yes you’re 100% right I will definitely take that advice . Appreciate it 👍
I ha e been looking for this exact video
Ah glad it was of help to you . Are you going to build one yourself?
Esta hermoso ❤
Gracias 👍
Wonder how did you do the wiring for the lights ??
Ah yes the shelves are part of a full media unit so the electrician had the cables ready to be pulled out on the left side to connect to the LED strip light
Love this... Need this for my living room
Thanks 👍 I’m working on the video of the full media wall hopefully I’ll finish this week
but its already a year since release of 805, got the same, love it
Well, it’s new to me and it’s dewalt s latest model does that count 🤷🏻
That Milwaukee looks like it's the one used mostly based on the condition.
It did get a lot of use, but I kept having that problem with all my Milwaukee tools so I had to change over to dewalt
@@DDconstruction1 oh I see... the gen 4 working for me without that issue
@@travissmikle2507 I’m sure they’ve improved a lot by generation 4 👍
