.22 Long Rifle Variants for Training
When ammunition is expensive and difficult to secure, some shooters are reluctant to shoot what they’ve got and deplete their stockpile. That means little or no handgun training and practice, and we all know that’s not good. Manufacturers have taken note of this, and now several .22 Long Rifle variants of popular handguns are available.

With .22LR versions of a Smith & Wesson M&P and a Glock 19, PDN Contributor Barret Kendrick of Bearco Training discusses shooting these variants instead of the originals. What skills can you work on that are the same and what can’t you work on because they are too different? Barret encourages defensive-minded shooters to consider the .22LR option before the next ammunition crunch.

Vang Comp 20-Gauge Shotgun for Home Defense
Bought some of their first 30 round magazines. Feed lips are wrong and rounds slide out if bumped. Tried getting them to replace them but their warranty is a joke. I gave up after submitting photos they wanted 4 times.
Back in the early 90s when i went through training, this is when black talon was king, they taught us to stagger our round, like ball, talon, ball, talon. This gives you the best of both during the same flight.
2:03 USSS personnel in 2024 have had issue with this part
It's appropriate to do whatever you want if its legal
Or if you’re a women keep the pepper spray in your bra. It’s not seen and easy to grab. Surprise!
Why is it ok to have a manual safety on a rifle, but not on a pistol?
Scan and assess the gun goes with. Not my words but rather from a retired SOFD-D SGM Team Leader. Rob's old pdn videos they pushed through NRA and sold in 07-12 got me laughed at by a different retired Unit guy than mentioned above during his class. He then showed me the correct way and we laughed together at how stupid I was.
Why was the 'retired Unit' guy's way the 'correct' way?
@@GunsForEveryoneIsaac You answered your own question. The best pistol shooters on earth don't do things for fun or for show. They are the undeniable best because they use them to shoot people who shoot back. Target no shoot back. There are correct ways to do some things. Rob has some good advice and also some bad advice. As a very great instructor says "institutional inbreeding."
@@beenschmokin appeal to authority fallacy. "It's the correct way because that's the way the 'pros' do it.". That's not a useful argument. You're not speaking to the specific context (self defense vs combat/offense), the benefits and risks, the probabilities of the different elements of self defense fights, etc. Can you explain why Rob does NOT do it? If you don't understand why he teaches that, how can you form a useful argument against his way?
@@GunsForEveryoneIsaac You're the one with the fallacy sir. Take a class from a Tier 1 guy (spoiler alert they all teach the same things because there are correct ways to do many things) and maybe you'll learn something useful. Stance is a thing that doesn't matter but is taught to stand like this or that ad nauseam by most men who have never been in a gun fight. Target no shoot back. I paid good money for knowledge and the explanations behind the actions you ain't getting it for free. I answered all those questions but for those in the back the short answer is -institutional inbreeding. Rob has some good advice but also some stuff that looks good on the flat range and will get you killed in a real gun fight. The old videos he was adamant about leaning forward at the hips to mitigate recoil. "Why are you doing that?" Rob Pincus said... "What recoil... it's a pistol." FYI - once you pull it's always offensive.
@@beenschmokin I am having trouble following your disjointed answer but what I think you're saying is, "appeal to authority again, I'm smart because I spent money, you're dumb because you're not me, physics doesn't apply to me because I train high speed, etc. etc." Thanks for the answer, I think I'm all set now.
You are a dying breed of knowledge Rob. 👊🐍🇺🇸
Rob ain't dying
Practice being startled all the time. Got it.
I'm a 68 yr old Noob to guns. I'm still pretty strong but i cant do this . I have to push the slide release on all of mine. It's not for lack of strength. My instructor said to just flip the slide release with the thumb of my trigger hand, so it's what I do. I wish it worked your way,it just won't for me.
Liberty ammo is le best 👌
Didnt even checked to SEE 👀 if its cleared....
The proof is in the pudding. The isosceles stance is just easier for most to pick up. It's easier to remember in a panic as well for civilians. For law enforcement/military they should use whatever they want because they are (should be) doing the training to be able to make these things muscle memory.
What about a single action revolver? I have a heritage rough rider and a heritage barkeep.. does the transfer bar work the same on these? I'm always a little nervous about letting the hammer drop after loading them.
Thanks for the great video. Most of the so-called experts will tell you that open carry is not a good idea, and their list of reasons goes on and on. They are entitled to their opinion. Opinions are like belly buttons. Everybody has one. I grew up in a high crime area and I knew all of the bad people, the smart ones and the stupid ones. None of them wanted to get shot. I've traveled armed for more than 50 years, openly since 1985 and I will never know how many times trouble has taken a detour rather than confront an old man with a gun. I am 87 years old and I know from personal experience what can happen to old people when they're perceived as an easy target. The gun on my side is my personal sign that says beware, this old dog still bites. Unarmed people are a much safer target. Recently, local law enforcement, being uninformed about the state statute that allows open carry with the proper permit, chose to challenge the validity of my decision. They firmly believed that open carry was against the law in the state of Rhode Island. I was threatened with arrest and possible jail time. Eventually the city solicitor was able to convince the Police Department that what I was doing was perfectly legal and that their opinion about my reason didn't matter. On the plus side, this was the first time since I started carrying openly 38 years ago that law enforcement even noticed me. Rhode Island has a population of over 1.094 million and only 3500 people were issued a permit to carry. That's less than half of 1%. Many people with permits don't know that they are allowed to open carry or are afraid of reprisal from the Police if they do. I have never seen another Rhode Islander open carrying. This, in my opinion, is a classic example of, “use it or lose it.” I will no longer argue the point. My reasons are justifiable and personal, and I no longer choose to share them or argue the validity of my actions. My reasons are none of your business. The only pertinent question is, “is it legal?” When asked “What are you afraid of?” My reply has always been, - Nothing.
Been carrying for 9 + years my choice for my EDC
Very annoying... Impossible to watch.
Sound is missing intermittently about half the time..
The problem is that the firearm in the video is lacking a hammer spur. If you had a real gun, it would have a hammer and you could shoot it more accurately in Single-Action mode. We are not with the L.A.P.D. of the 1960's - 1980's where the rule was: Shoot all 6 six shots whenever you pull your service pistol. Buy a wheel gun with a real hammer!
It is illegal to use a Cane aa a hamer?
thanks for this. i'm being stalked and i'm afraid. law cannot protect you. and i can't find much on here to tell me what to do. i can't leave the house because he's here all the time. he wants to kill me because he thinks i'm the cause of all his troubles. i don't know why i'm in this situation. i think about the wind blowing it back to me. what do i do about that? he stays in the doorways of buildings waiting for me to walk by. pernicious. i don't even know if it is legal in massachusetts. i called 3 attorneys and they won't give me any legal advice. this sucks.
and should i practice?
You heard Rob nail it! When the timer goes off, run to my car! at 2:45...why engage in a gunfight if you can avoid it???? Rob Leatham isn't a soldier. He moved and retreated but you're shooting different flavor lollypops so how real is it?????
Thank you Bro . Short and to the point.
The Contego is a monster. What a terrific design. Big quality handful. Perhaps the best production knife available today. At the very least it's in the running.
I do believe behavior is so so important...as someone who hope to fend off any future abusive situations...but my tools I carry as the knowledge I've collected over the years conferning the matter...are such an asset to me Also the gear you may be carting could infact bring deciding factors to your actions and behaviors and can also be an asset in accomplishing task...that one's fitness level would normally find more difficulty in doing so I used to say the world takes all kinds What works best for one may not work at all for another In bringing our own unique skills preferences and curiosities We bring variety to one another while staying true to ourselves I used to try to do the best I could with what I had...basically Doing what I can for who I can when I can with what I can💕🙏💕 Guess I still do Especially since I am finally reaching a stringer level of acceptance through a grieving process I've been struggling with and hope this will bring my anger pain and denial out of that which sometimes felt like debilitating resentment...js💕🙂💕✨🙏✨
We called it the bucket drill in the academy, because we used 5 gallon buckets lol
Just received this for Gen 5 Glock 19. I wanted more retention. Soooo I added a couple of thin washers that serve as a “stand off”. Now I can tighten it even more. 👍🏻👍🏻
Noice thanks
Great demo and explanation...good detailed photography of the decocking proceedure

Love mine. Very accurate, great groups
Worthless video. Dude just wanted to film himself talk.
I don’t understand why these biometric locks can’t also have a mechanical backup for a second option That should be a gold standard
What about a walking stick?
Thank you for this. I'm interested in this pistol and you mentioned some ideas that I haven't considered.
Very nice that they can Vang Comp a 20 gauge!
Would you say it takes recoil of a 20 gauge to that of a 28 gauge?
What if someone bought a gun at a pawn shop and then later it was reported stolen. Do the cops take it from me and give it back to the original owner. How do i get legally refunded by the thief ?in moses law a man steals something he would have to repay the victim 7 times as penalty
I agree! Maybe show us the view of the entire home?
Read your owners manual cleaning section. Mine says to put a couple of drops of lube in exhaust holes and rack a few times. I'm sure they know what they are talking about.
We need to develop training drills that come with an element of surprise rather than anticipation just like a real life scenario.
It really is one of the most difficult decisions you'll have to make.. when or should I pull the trigger in this highly tense and fast moving situation!
Not sure the plastic is going to do well against my skin in hot parts of the country...
Audio went away after 36:00 into the video.
I need that in my hallway
'Promo sm' 😎
This is a great video. My suggestion to add is how to load the revolver, using your firing hand to hold the cylinder open and loading with opposite.
realy ? lubricating gas ports on bcg ? for better carbon creation or ?
having to get better hearing protection for work..WTH does class 87 mean, that's what they have to be...lol
NOPE, ... Sorry ! ... "A Lot Of People Are NOT Talking About Super Carry" .. 😅😂
