Same for me. Gold Central Victoria can be received here in the day fairly easily so it’s a bit of a pest. I’ve only heard 4SB once before this clearly and never heard anything out of Australia on 1071.

I heard one from this station but wasn’t recording. After that they played 3 songs without another ID, so I gave up. Normally I record for 5-10 mins waiting for an ID and if there isn’t one I move on. IDing when using my portable setup is even harder since im holding my phone in one hand and my radio in the other which gets tiring.

That was a good catch especially with the strong Gippsland signal on 107.1. The only signal on 107.1 now is Triple J Ballarat which can sometimes be a pest during tropo.

probably not since it was at a pretty consistent signal level throughout the night. plus there are no planes around here really.

it might have been tropo if the signal had been in for hours. Aircraft scatter only lasts a few minutes

if it was in for hours, then it would have been tropo. AS only lasts a few mins

i wish i brought my fm yagi with me. reception would have been so much better.

Yes, it is quite a rare catch, especially at a good level. One station that I would love to catch on 1098kHz here in Melbourne is Newstalk ZB Christchurch. It is a powerhouse in New Zealand, but it is rarely ever heard here in Australia.

that's probably the most likely answer. It just didn’t sound anything like "West FM" so I thought it might be a low power repeater somewhere or another station.

I checked the livestream for Triple M Albury and they were playing music so it couldn’t have been that. The Yagi was pointed towards Warrnambool and the towns along the coast since I was getting some tropo from there.

is it possible they don't stream Luke Bona since it has its own podcast?

Possibly but Triple M Bendigo and Gippsland on FM both were playing the same music as the Albury web stream. The talking on the unknown station didnt match Triple M Melbourne either.

could it be RN from Toowoomba? Given its an hour behind, did you check the Queensland stream of RN? - i.e. it would not match NSW RN stream

That is a possibility since I didn’t check the Queensland stream.

It does seem like a waste of money. Even a low quality portable should be able to pickup the Toowoomba transmission in Warwick. If the reception isn't good enough a repeater just powerful enough for the town would have been more reasonable.

I noticed that even the whip antenna on the Sihuadon D808 is better (which is why im using it in most of my videos). I was thinking of getting a 4 element FM yagi to replace the discone but I haven’t got around to ordering it yet.

I noticed that too. On the night that I received this station no other limestone coast/Mount Gambier stations were listenable.
