I passed by this one evening and it was rotating silently. that would explain why it facing a different direction every few days. just the past few weeks or so I noticed that the screen is now missing. the days might be numbered for this old bolt.
***** I thought about doing that, but.... I don't want to see a 2001 up there, no offense lol Lombard already has a few of them and only 5 Thunderbolts left. This one is by far the oldest and has been there since before the highway was built.
***** It's a shame they can't take one off one of the old fire stations in Chicago that have better looking Thunderbolts just sitting up there rotting away.

ChicagoSirens i like that siren no matter what. That particular sound, 3 or 4 different low to high pitch sounds get everybody attention.

Actually the most common 1000T was the 6/5. The 5/4's were more rare. But that does bring up the question: I wonder if 1000's were made In 4 or 6 single tone.

Actually, these are 135 dB at 100'. They are also the largest siren in the world.

Is this the one that stands right along I355? I pass by that one a few times a week and notice it is often pointing a different direction every week or two. Any idea why that is?

It's not a 50's Thunderbolt, it's a mid-1980s 1000ASC-480 (Series C, 480V three phase). It also didn't come from Macon County, GA; we only had one back in the day and it's still around as a fire siren at the rural VFD. This siren is original to Lombard, as were the other ones they have/had.

@Ouranos94 This siren was installed in its location in 1992 along with the other Thunderbolts in the area. The Paint is not original as this siren was restored and installed somewhere between 1990 and 1992. The reason it sounds funny is because it is not a 1000T that you are used to hearing which is a 5/4 port. The 1000 shown in this video is a 5 port single tone and not very many were made. On top of all that it has its FC controller set to zero for an instant cut off.
@sirenfan97 From where i was filming (at least 20-30 feet away) it was pretty loud. If you look back at the video, it was shaking the tripod a bit.

@Ouranos94 Well actually, this siren was originally from Macon county, Georgia. They restored it and installed it when i was very young. Thats why it has newer Federal Signal decals on it. However, the CD logos are oringinal!
It's amazing how blue the Civil defense decal is after all these years. It sounds a little funny.
