30 years and counting... No Bettman?
'Its the press that said they werent good. NOT a single one of us said they werent good.'
May 10th 2024 is today. 45 years ago this happenned!
FYI. Bigger RATS please! Panthers in Round 2 vs the sorry ass Bruins.
This is Canada's greatest speech from a sweaty hockey player in Vancouver during the 1972 Summit Series
My favorite athlete of all time. i'm 58 and have been playing sports all my life and with the exception of (American) football, i was ALWAYS #12, to this day, any jersey or sweater i get, regardless of team or sport will have #12 on it. I was born in Montreal, so, I had no choice (with 3 older brothers) I started playing organized hockey at age 4 and, of course The Habs have been my favorite team all my life. And like @mkraulis I went to his bar in Lachine (i'm pretty sure it was there, i dont know how many he had) my cousins lived a couple blocks away, the establishment was called "Cournoyers", i remember. that was over 40 years ago. What a thrill it would have been to have met my idol. Like Yvan, i was always small and among the fastest. Great memories. I just learned only one person has lifted Lord Stanleys cup more than Yvan's 10 times.
Although I'm a Bruins fan, I have a deep respect for Montreal. I saw them at the Forum in 1986 when I visited the city.
This iconic speech from Canada’s leader Phil Esposito, galvanized the team & Canada to support them went they went to Russia. This speech speaks of his love for Canada! Powerful stuff! 💪❤️🔥🇨🇦
He's such a windbag
Great hit (for the time)
@1:53 Envoye aurele!
I was 14 and a huge Habs fan and Lafleur fan growing up in Montreal. In that magical 4 cups in a row 1970s run, the Habs always found a way to win I believe this loss and too many men on the ice cost Don Cherry his job and he never coached again
Love to hear Bob Cole say...K.L.I.M.A.
RIP Bob Cole who called the goal.
If Ken had played more we would have won more. He retired far too young. I was in my youth when the Habs were winning Cups during the 70s. The '71 playoff series against the heavily favoured Big Bad Bruins and then Black Hawks will never be forgotten.
someone once threw a real live panther onto the ice
Canadian brutes. Complaining about the ref. Come on! You guys intimidated and bullied all the way in hockey. Please.
Could be wrong but that looks like Ted Lindsay.
Holly hell frog.
Wow !! what started this ?? THAT was straight outta Slapshot !! Did they ever have a game ?? that night ?
Oh poor Canadians.......the european referees won't accept violence.
one of the greatest games i ever saw.
Imagine Orr, with healthy knees for more than 2 years and having and being on 80s Oilers. Orr and 99 would have had 4000 points each.
Listened on the radio in a taxi on the way to the game. What heart. And again, nobody wanted to have anything to do with Robinson. No way. Chris Nilan. The definition of heart.
I was at that game and losing my mind
I remember that game
Love seeing Plante in action
What I love about old hockey is that the dump and chase which plagues today’s hockey, wasn’t a factor back then due to the higher calibre of play, and players back then. 30 plus teams and four lines on each team has watered down the product. Sad.
UN GRAND BRAVO ET UN IMMENSE MERCI À MAURICE RICHARD LE 'ROCKET' D'AVOIR TENU TÊTE À CAMPBELL.😊
I've heard it said by many players "We became a team after Sweden" ...reason ...the cancer named Hatfield was removed.
To make matters worse, this was on Steve Smith's birthday.
CANADA - OH CANADA - MOSCOW GOT BEAT - - RIGHT AT HOME LATER IN THIS SERIES - - HAIL - HAIL CANADA - FOREVERMORE !
Much respect for mr Smith to say that
🐐🐐🐐
The goat
It seems like back before they wore helmets they weren't really hitting people like this that often
The Boxcar
After the first minute and half, a great video about a great hockey layer and person.
Eventually we showed those silly soviets who their daddys are
Just never get tired of watching this incredible game tying goal by Guy!👍👍👍
its def the dirtiest hit of all time, if you think thats funny then you prob play but suck at lacrosse
the goal that got us the cup
6 Cups not to bad.
Class
Pride of East City Peterborough
Okaying with a🎄
He demonstrates more heart and soul here than any Habs over the past 30 years.
Smitty was like a pre Sheldon from "The Big Bang Theory." Smitty"s crease was his spot. Sheldon would say. "THATS MY SPOT to anyone sitting in his end of the couch they'd move; however, Smitty would say THAT'S MY SPOT, too and if you didn't move, it would cost you some pain.
I remember watching this live as a kid. Everyone was in shock that the Canadians were on their heels at the start of that series. The good guys came back to win though!
Ah yes! Good 'ol time hockey.
Awesome 😊
