Chemistry professor and amateur classical pianist with absolute pitch.
I "graduated" from piano lessons after completing RCM Level 10 in my youth. After taking a 15-year break from serious playing, I am now slowly rebuilding my technique and expanding my repertoire. I focus on Bach's keyboard/lute compositions, as I find these to be a good fit with my personality and playing style. I do still appreciate other Baroque, Classical, and Romantic composers such as Beethoven and Schubert, and will upload a few of their pieces from time to time. Occasionally, I also work on arrangements of popular works such as soundtracks from video games and movies.
I am using this channel to document and motivate my progress, and I specifically record non-equal temperament versions of Baroque pieces using a harpsichord sound, which may interest Baroque purists and enthusiasts. Most importantly, I wish to share the joy of music with others : )

Bach Lute Suite in E Minor (Allemande), BWV 996 Updated
I have an older version of this piece here czcams.com/video/rWaW3Ssg87c/video.html. I have been working on my musicality and I personally think the current version is an improvement.

Moonlight Sonata Practice (Third Movement)

So I have been working on this for a while, although I did need to take breaks from practicing now and then due to work. My tempo is at about 110 bpm at the moment, but eventually I want to bring it up to at least 140. It needs more practice, but I'm proud of my progress so far 🙂

I had to reupload this improved version of the arrangement, as I was very bothered by the awkward pauses in the previous version which did not fit the music box style. This is composed by Zhenbang Lei based on a Tajik folk melody.

Decided to switch up the temperament; Kirnberger sounds a bit less "equal" compared to Werckmeister but not as dissonant as the just, Pythagorean, or mean-tone tunings (which are all options on my instrument). To be clear, I mean dissonant overall when played for all possible keys, since e.g. just intonation is actually more perfect than equal temperament when tuned to one specific key.

The Cube Escape series is one of my favourite surreal horror game series. Lots of eerie moments to be found throughout the games; Birthday in particular had a touch of sorrow on top, which this theme captured beautifully. Composed by Victor Butzelaar.

Very nice clarity, sounds great :)
Nice
why did you right full piece when it is just the third movement??
Ah, because my previous practice videos have been only short excerpts from the third movement. I can see how that may be misleading though.

I’m currently learning this too, but you're better than me! Good luck to both of us :)
Good luck! Just takes (lots and lots of) practice and one can always get better 👏
awesome in few weeks youll master it 🙌🏽
Hah, I was thinking months, but thanks!
Keep going!!
Good uwu
Thank you 🙂 I just started learning this piece so still need a ton of practice. The final version should be a lot more polished.
What piano is this? It sounds good?
Thank you? Lol it is a Yamaha N3X which has the Yamaha CFX sound sampled in a more advanced way compared to an "average" digital piano. Expensive sound at a fraction of the price. I do really like the bass.
MORE legato please that means more pedal, especially ben marcato passage. That section is sooo dry without sustain pedal. Dont be fooled by your teacher's strict warnings regarding avoiding the sustain pedal or for some staccato renditions of this piece. Pedal is the soul of piano and you can use it. The tempo will increase with practice I am sure. Also dont play like a human metronome. Utilize rubato
Fair point about the pedal, I will make a note for the future.
the performance is very regular and clean, but it actually needs more speed and the pedal, especially for the second part
Thank you for your comment. I refrain from using pedal in general as I think it tends to muddle the notes, although it probably would help with the minor section in this piece. Also I agree about the speed, but that does not come overnight.
@@RaindropCantabile for what i saw, your regularity should allow you to boost the speed. I'm not a fan of the speed in general, but this piece actually needs it. The pedal muddles the notes and sometimes it could be an advantage to cover mistakes. Anyway, the second part definitely needs the pedal. It looks too much dry and poor of atmosphere without it. It's still a very good execution, considering you didn't edit the video
@@lightningfidelis2993 I did think the minor section was dry-sounding compared to recordings. I could try more pedal for a future version although as you can see, my focus is Baroque repertoire and I prefer clarity. Yes, still agree about speed and it is currently a goal of mine to get faster at scales. Takes time is all.
@@RaindropCantabile Dont waste your talent on baroque pieces. You can never fully grasp the mechanics with Bach Haendel etc. Plus, with a few exceptions, life is too short to learn anything other than Chopin:)
@@goktugblack Thanks for commenting, although I guess we’ll have to disagree on what “wasting one’s talent” entails. Chopin is great, but I prefer Bach.
Fantastic
Set playback speed to 1.5
I really like your phrasing, impressive work! Congratulations! :)
Very nice. Much appreciated!
скоро можно будет так делать популярные треки
This is sick!!
its obviously sped up bruh
You know, this isn’t even that fast, probably just around 100 bpm-child’s play for any professional pianist (and still very doable for an amateur like myself). If I were to speed up a video, why not go for something truly impressive like a Chopin Etude? Check out my practice videos; I practice scales regularly at 100 bpm which translates easily to pieces.
Good, still need some practice, keep trying :-)
Thanks, but I’m quite happy with this version. Feel free to share your performance if you have specific points for improvement.
@@RaindropCantabile I am confused because today I listened this one again and it sounded totally different and I enjoyed it (as many of your other videos by the way) and did not feel the hesitations I heard at first listening that made me think you were still on practice with this partition... weird, I could have deleted my first comment but I prefer to add a new evaluation.
Me llena el alma decir que he encontrado este pedazo indescriptible del alma. En el día y momento perfecto, una pieza musical se ha tragado todo de mi. Es perfecto.
Great playing! I really benefit from being able to see your fingers on the keys. Wonderful work!
Thanks very much! It might sound even better with the guitar option on your instrument. Also, I was just checking out your rendition of the C Minor French Suite, there is so much musicality there that I wish I had.
@@RaindropCantabile You're welcome :) And yes, it's a good suggestion---if I ever get the music for this suite, then it'll be a focus of mine to learn and record it. Thanks for the kind words regarding the French suite, too---it means a lot! :D I hope one day to record it on an authentic harpsichord.
What happens if you play it backwards? What kind of a demon will that summon?
good!
good!
I like this tunning better for almost all of bachs pieces, great playing too
playback speed at 1.55x is the closest
I feel the last part is too fast, but overall is the closest
You play very well. I really love your dynamics. They're subtle, but help the music come to life. I can speculate it's in part because you do a great job of bringing out the important melodies from the rest. This way you let the actual tones speak for themselves. That's also the reason I wonder why your videos aren't more popular...
Thank you very much for your kind words. I can’t claim to be great at dynamic control just yet, it is a work in progress, but I am glad to hear that the melodies are coming through clearly for this piece. As for popularity-not exactly what I’m aiming for, as long as the right audience can appreciate my content, that’s enough for me.
Pónganlo a 1.5 de velocidad
Your playing is super impressive! Thanks so much for sharing. I like hearing this on a harpsichord setting a lot.
You are too kind : ) I am far from "super impressive", I can only hope to become that one day. You have some really nice stuff on your channel, it is great to meet another Baroque music enthusiast!
@@RaindropCantabile You're welcome! Anyone who can play Bach well is admired by me. I appreciate you for looking at my channel, too! Always great to meet others who love Early Music.

Could you explain the difference between this tuning and the one of WTC ? Thxs
Scholarly sources indicate that the Werckmeister temperament, a non-equal temperament that eliminates the problem of wolf fifths, was used in Bach’s time, and may well have been what was referred to as “well temperament”. This article has more information for the interested www.jstor.org/stable/739436.

It's a bit faster than what I like, but the tuning actually makes it sound somehow better
I'm really enjoying these videos. Is the sound recorded from the camera POV or do you have a separate mic?
