🚀 Tamiya DT-02 Speed Challenge | Part 5 (Dynatech 01R and 02H) | @cw-01creations46
Part 5. It's the end of testing Tamiya motors 😥 There are still so many, but it is time to move on... Again 2 vintage and iconic motors with the Dynatech 01R and 02H. Kind of a miracle with the latter as it was (unknowingly) in a very bad shape.

    DUDE!!!!!!!! what a great speed but man oh man, the 02H.... Maybe a good cleaning and some high temp epoxy (thin stuff) and you can get the magnet back in (space the evenly). 39 Mph put you up there and I'm sure we'll see more speed in time.

  • @yodadarksideGreenHawksRC

    Delightful!! Technigolds are my favourite motors of all time.... though they cannot compete with the modern brushed alternatives unfortunately. Despite being 21 turn, they still produce substantially less rpm than a 23 turn superstock RZ, even when fitted with new brushes and a freshly cleaned commutator. But, they are soooo smooth, so well built and emit a sound that is music to the ears. Many still survive to this day, which is testament to their design.... although it's getting very hard (and expensive) finding new brushes for them now. I'm still running 5 or 6 vintage Technigolds in : 959 x2, Celica GRB, vintage Astute, re re lunchbox and an original monster beetle! A true nostalgic icon from every rc kid that grew up in the golden era of RC! Been really enjoying this series fella, very well produced, and easy to follow. 🙏 👍 👍 👍

    • @coygtrc
      @coygtrc Před 2 dny

      It was the motor to have, for sure 😉 I remember it was quite nippy in the 959 and Celica that I restored almost 2 years ago, maybe too much because of the fragility of this chassis 😮🤝

    • @yodadarksideGreenHawksRC
      @yodadarksideGreenHawksRC Před 2 dny

      @@coygtrc Definitely mate..... It was a great match for that small light chassis back in the day. But like you say, those cars were so fragile. My first 959 back in 89 was broken more than it was running! I also restored a Celica and 959 to as new condition a few years back with new old stock parts, after all these years the ABS is as fragile as glass! The projects nearly bankrupt me, but they are pride of joy in the shelf collection now! The runner 959 I built recently gets run regularly, and in all fairness is pretty reliable since upgrading to aluminium arms and hubs. We have a few videos up of the fully restored ones at Green Hawks RC if interested. They are true icons despite all their issues! 👍 👍 👍

  • @yodadarksideGreenHawksRC

    Interesting...... I'm actually quite suprised by these results fella. The GT tuned was a little quicker than I was expecting, and the superstock a little slower! The GT tuned in my Avante 2011 is absolutely gutless, it was so slow I removed it after just one run. The Superstocks however are a firm favourite of mine, and I have many RZ, TZ, and BZ..... I was expecting closer to 30mph with the TZ in all honesty. I highly recommend changing out the bushes on each end of the rotor to proper bearings on the superstocks.... It's a fiddly job but well worth the effort. These motors run very hot stock, the bearings help keep them a bit cooler, more efficient, and give a slight speed increase to! Enjoyable upload mate. 😊 👍 👍 👍

    • @coygtrc
      @coygtrc Před 3 dny

      I'm with you. The GT Tuned was bland on the rpm bench, but performed better than expected. As for TZ, I was disappointed by the rpm, so much that I dug out the BZ and RPM were the same ( this almost eliminate a so-so ) motor 🤝

    • @coygtrc
      @coygtrc Před 3 dny

      Adding that I will probably add bearings in them. I was not impressed by them (1 in Super Astute, 1 in Egress) but let's not forget these are 23 turn... not 14x2-17x2 like we used for example in late 80's 🤪

    • @yodadarksideGreenHawksRC
      @yodadarksideGreenHawksRC Před 2 dny

      @@coygtrc Bearings definitely help the overall efficiency and temp..... and I gained 1mph speed on average by fitting them. The RZ is the best of the three, slightly quicker than the BZ and TZ. Like you, I found the BZ and TZ equal. And yeah, I miss the sheer choice and variation of the eighties brushed motors for sure! 👍 👍 👍

  • @yodadarksideGreenHawksRC

    Awesome!! You know that actually done far better than expected..... and fair play for not rolling it!! That's probably twice the speed of my full metal sassy chassis clod, the thing weighs a ton..... but is a true work of art! 👍 👍 👍

      The Acto TRF is absolutely superb. The "Super Modified" is just an 11 turn armature inside a "common" can. At least, it's 50% faster than the Sport Tuned. But yeah I was a bit underwhelmed. Next, still Tamiya, vintage, iconic last pair (and one is faster than the 11t, but is not a Transpeed). And after that, this will be a Team Orion 😉 Stay tuned 🤝

      @@coygtrc Very cool, when those were all around, I was very heavy into Trinity (Epic) motors. Now that I'm getting old (almost 60), I check websites almost everyday for vintage motors. The Acto TRF is at the top of the list but looking for new in box. I been also looking for a Transpeed MS brushless motor..

    Wow Gabe, nice vintage motors there man. Brother you ain't kidding about old motors, they are not cheap for a nice one but still, magnets get weak over time and no one makes an affordable magnet zapper (I knew I should have bought one years ago), or is selling one cheap. It sure does seen your stuck at 25, time to bring out the big guns.....

    • @coygtrc
      @coygtrc Před 7 dny

      That's the issue with a lot of old Tamiya Motor, quite strange (or not common) end bell. So parts are scarce and expensive. But, it's a fraction for "scientific" research and the rest for fun. Next video, the caliber is bigger, bye bye 25 😁🤝

  • @MarkBryanRC

    That Technigold sure did well for it's age, Gabriel! Always interesting to watch your videos. Now onto more SPEED! I have currently hit a wall with my attempts, 40mph may be as far as I can go. I'm sure you will beat that my friend! Good luck! 💪👊😎👍

      @coygtrc Před 7 dny

      Yeah not bad for this antique motor 😁 Not easy to reach 40 with Tamiya motors 😥 As they are "old" and a lot are not sporting the common end bell, very difficult to freshen them up 😵 Thanks 🤝

A hair dryer to warm up the can at the output shaft end and they almost fall out, as for putting them in, (heat also) a wooden dowel 8.25mm really helps seat them back in, could use a brass or alloy punch too, the endbell is super easy..
