Might be easier to explain what my CZcams channel is NOT. I'm not trying to build an audience. I'm not trying to make money. I'm not really trying to "engage." On that point I should explain why I block most subscribers. In my experience, most just want to use the comments on my videos to spam. (I can't recall the last time I got a benign or useful comment) When I remember check the NO COMMENTS box when posting a video. I park videos here so I can share them on my blog (smays.com). If you are really keen on commenting, that's the place to do it (with moderation).
Trying the chest mount for the DJI Osmo Pocket 3
I used two gimbal settings for this video: Follow and Tilt Lock. The poor video (jerky, too fast pans) probably the result of having the gimbal rotational speed set to FAST instead of SLOW

DJI Osmo Pocket 3 test: Face tracking and remote microphone
zhlédnutí 145Před 21 dnem
In this 3 1/2 minute video I play with face tracking features of the Pocket 3 and the sound quality of the remote microphone. Face tracking feels like magic. To be able to move around and have the camera follow and keep me in frame creates a lot of possibilities. As far as I can recall, every video I ever recorded was a solo effort which meant the camera had to be stationary and I couldn’t move...
Target Practice

My friend George and I take our shotguns down into the woods for a little target practice. George is experienced with all type of firearms... I'm a novice. I recently traded my Remington .12 gauge for a Mossberg Shockwave 590 in .410 gauge and this is my first time to fire the gun. Video runs 3.5 minutes.

Practice video. Trying to get the hang of the DJI Osmo Pocket 3 camera. The camera is on a selfie stick about four feet above the deck. I'm using the remote mic which works great. I try to stay out of the videos I shoot because I look older than Keith Richards. I like the distance I get with the Pocket 3 face-tracking. And the audio with the remote mic is exceptional. At the 3:08 mark I refer t...

You were indeed.
I grew up watching WOC and WHBF from the Quad Cities.
What a great example of hometown full service radio from back in the day. KBOA’s signal boomed up and down the mid-Mississippi river valley. I was a regular listener in Cairo, Illinois in the late 70s and early 80s.
That was my era. I think it was even better during my pop’s time. Early’50s

Andy, aint you got a jack?
I miss hearing that old man on my radio! He was a good man. I grew up listening to him in high school.
no ass was hauled
Grew up in Kennett Missouri listening to Mr. Pylant.
Sorry i used this clip as a meme on my channel but I linked your channel in description
my dad drove big dump trucks in and out of that pit, that is what i wanted to do when i grew up but the mines closed when i was in middle school so we had to move, we ended up in the mid west. but i loved growing up in Bisbee
Judging from the newscaster's reference to President Reagan in office, it being a presidential election year (with a note of the economic report being "good news for him" )and it being Friday, May 4th, it's a sure bet this is an aircheck from the morning of Friday, May 4th ........1984.
Duh. One the Community Highlights I read mentions "tomorrow, May the 5th" so, yeah, probably May 4th. I got a job offer on May 1, 1984 and would probably have made the air-check that week so I'd have a fresh one.
You did an amazing job right there old man. It's my pleasure to be the first to drop a comment. It's kinda disheartening that this clip is more than a couple of years old but just a handful have liked or seen it. To bad for them, they don't know what they're missing .......
You are too kind, Daniel. Truth be told, I never expected any views or comments. I put these up to force me practice the Uke.
Steve Mays .... The uke sounds amazing and so do you ....... You know that big Hawaiian singer Israel ? .... He played the uke to songs like "somewhere over the rainbow" and "what a wonderful world"..... Sadly he passed away but his uke and voice will never be forgotten. You should try "shadows on the wall", "my way", "green green grass of home".....etc
@@danieltulloch7954 You are dating yourself, Daniel. :)
Steve Mays ... Didn't quite understand what you meant by "dating yourself" .... care to elaborate please ??
@@danieltulloch7954 Only that "shadows on the wall", "my way", "green green grass of home" are from a different era. But the 60s was my best decade and I like all the songs you suggested. For what it's worth... my song choices are based on having only a few simple chords, and be slow enough I ca make the changes.
I love this.
First, how in the hell did you stumble upon this? Second, I am flattered given your experience.
It's great. Was this something you wrote? It's been a while since I 'crawled' your page so I spent a delightful hour catching up.
Thank you both, you created a beautiful prairie garden.🍀
This is a really nice version. And you sorta look like Ry. Bravo.
Wow, so simple, so clear, so powerful. I just discovered this song last week by the Tedeschi Trucks band, their rehearsal version. Great job sir. Great voice.
You are too kind. Thank you. My two favorite versions of this song are by Bobby King and Terry Evans (Live & Let Live) and Veronica Klaus (Live at the Lodge)
This song makes me clam down and happy when I'm sad this song is the song that makes what you said "dream a little" mostly all of this the songs you post I have to be one of the most relaxed smooth non tensing songs ever im your number on fan I give you all of my support I will play this song during holidays most likely winter, fall, and more I support this channel...
Never heard this Steve. Very Cool
Yes, used to do a little Wolf Man. Hot Baby Mercy.
I recall thinking how much... nerve? ... it must have taken to do that on the radio. Weren't some of your high school pals also on KBXM?
Siri on AirPods with iPhone 8 is almost unbelievable. I used to use her all the time on my iPhone 5s but this is another level. So fast. She seems to be much more accurate with the AirPods, too. Of course she is not the smartest assistant but she can do a surprising number of useful things once you get into the habit of using her. Thanks for the video. Dictating into notes is something I hadn’t thought of before this! 👍
Aah, the excellent Peter Finch. See him on top form in John Schlesinger's Sunday Bloody Sunday

Happy birthday (even if it is arbitrary).
Told you before: you got your own style. You know how to tell a story. Like te vid too.
Thank you, Brian. Happy RV'ing
Very nice. l thoroughly enjoyed it. 68? I just bought a trailer and turned 70 on Valentine's day. Posted from a RV park in Pismo Beach.
*Checking out slideshow themes in Apple Photos* The 4 min video below was created using the slideshow tool in Apple Photos. Apple supplies half a dozen themes (this one is called Sliding Panels) and I'm playing with the ones I've never used before. This one is a nice fit if you have a lot of images but you don't want the slideshow to drag on too long.
Love it! Of course the only person I identified was John Mays. Live radio! Who woulda thunk?

#1 thing I miss from Missouri. CZ!
*Slideshow tool in new (Apple) Photos* Apple recently updated iPhoto (now confusingly called "Photos") and made some enhancements to the Slideshow feature. For some reason I always made these with iMovie but the new Photos is much better for this task. This 2 minute slideshow features some photos from my local coffee shop.
Pretty wild bunch for a coffee shop.
And I didn't include pics of the biker club that comes in on Saturday morning.
Someone put a great deal of thought into the music as well
*My CZcams channel trailer* I don’t give a lot of attention to my CZcams channel. It’s just the place I park my videos so I can share them here on Google+ and on smays.com. But they provide a nice set of tools for managing your content and tips for how to create a good “experience” for people who find their way to my channel. For example, they recommend a brief (no more than a minute) trailer to give the visitor some idea of what the channel is about. It’s been a couple of years since I updated mine. This one has nothing to do with the video on my channel. I needed to fill that spot on page so I decided to put something together as quickly as possible. I quickly scanned through 5,000+ photos, picking eight or ten almost at random. Then added some music that seemed to fit the images and my current mood. And it’s done. I almost added some quotes from favorite authors but decided that wouldn’t add anything.
Some Truman Show, some nostalgia, some existentialism. This may be a bigger peek into your innards than you planned as you set about this project.
Hardly rises to the level of "project." Just needed something short to fill that slot on my YT channel home page. But yes, probably some subconscious stuff at work with selection of photos, music.
As a guy with ADD, and too many obligations to have said affliction, everything is a project. Things that you can get done over a cup of coffee takes me all day.
Slowly, very slowly, I'm getting more comfortable _letting_ things happen, rather than making them happen. So subtle I can hardly explain it. Looking back, I'm not sure I ever really _made_ things happen. Just chose to believe I did.

At least you used your head and didn't have to duct the train.
Interesting placement of the chicken wire.
This is what you do when it's too cold to cut wood…
Pretty prescient presentation from Mr. Hammock, especially his mention of a watch, which we are seeing now. At the same time, it took me back to the days of dial-up, Prodigy, and AOL in the early 90s.
When I talked about regulation and licenses, I said FCC (Federal Communications Commission) when I should have said FAA (Federal Avaition Administrations)
*Living Healthy - Heartburn (Program 17)* Heartburn is one of those common conditions that I've never experienced. Lucky me.
Never?
Not that I was aware of. Don't recall ever experiencing those symptoms

*Living Healthy - Cholesterol (Program 5)* That chemical in your blood that can clog arteries. Clogged arteries bad. Diet and exercise can make a difference but it's mostly about genetics. A good introduction to the topic of cholesterol. A word of caution: This program was recorded in November of 2005. Lots of research since then.
*Living Healthy - Heart Attack and Stroke (Program 4)* Heart attack is the #1 cause of death in the U.S. Stroke is #3. Dr. Henry Domke lists seven questions that can help determine how likely you are to suffer a heart attack or stroke. (Recorded November 19, 2005)
*Living Healthy with Dr. Henry Domke (Program 2 - Obesity)* _"Most weight loss efforts are doomed to failure. I often tell my patients I think they shouldn't try."_ For the record, I don’t expect anyone/everyone to listen to these old programs. I’m eager to get them up on CZcams (for posterity) and figure I might was well put ‘em here, too.
Thanks for that . I'll quit now.
You might want to get a second opinion
*If I were gonna podcast* ***** asked me what sort of podcast I would do if I were to start one today. I've thought about it a bit and I think it would be interviews with people I find interesting. A good example was this chat with a man who made concrete lawn ornaments in southern Missouri. Or the guy with the home-made drum kit mounted to the dashboard of his pickup. czcams.com/video/RaP95FolLWY/video.html Curtis and I disagree (mildly) on whether podcasts and radio are the same thing. I think it would be difficult to find a commercial station that would let me do interviews like these. Too... niche? Too long? The freedom inherent in podcasting makes it a different animal (for me).
Naw. I'm pretty sure that's been well staked out. Maybe if Pee Wee's Playhouse had an interview segment.
I love those kinds of stories, ***** . Now you could simply publish those yourself and they'd find an audience if there was one. Writing the stories would be much harder for me than simply recording/edit/post.
You should do a demo podcast, Steve Mays. I would listen to it, and give you some feedback.
I welcome your feedback John Walkenbach Not sure I can give you a better demo than some of the stuff I've posted here. The Living Healthy stuff, for example. I probably can't/won't do much better/different than those. I'd probably approach such a project the way I have the uke. Just the doing is reward enough.
Oh, so you've already done podcasts, Steve? Guess I wasn't paying attention.
*The Living Healthy Podcast* In 2005 Henry Domke was a practicing physician (now he's a photographer and artist). He was my doc and he was damned good. It wasn't uncommon for him to just talk to his patients for 15 or 20 minutes. An amazing "bedside manner." I was looking for a podcast project at the time and Henry was a natural. We did about 50 shows over the next year. Each was 15-20 minutes. We posted these to a website with show notes and lots of links to additional info. That's gone now but Henry's wisdom is too good to live in the digital closet. So I'm going to archive them on my CZcams page. Here's a sample of topics: How to Stop Smoking The Myth of Exercise How to Get A Good Night's Sleep Depression What is Alcoholism? Allergies Poison Ivy & Ticks Anxiety Disorders Immunization This first show introduced Henry and gives you a sense of his style.
Quit smoking years ago but am interested in some of the other topics such as exercise, sleep & depression. Also, Steve Mays I know it would be to my benefit to examine _mindfulness_, but I jut can't get past the conviction that if people would just stop pissing me off, everything would be swell.
I agree with Curtis Wenzel.
I would do podcasts with some of the radio people I've enjoyed working with over the years.
Good question, ***** I'm not sure I could come up with a topic that isn't already being done (and done better) than I could. That wasn't true back in the early days of podcasting. For me, the topic might be less important than the people I worked with. (I'd never try to solo). There are a few people who I find so entertaining (***** for example) that I'd put in the effort even if nobody listened. Years ago I did a series of short bits I called Brushes With Near Greatness. Those were fun. Sort of mental potato chips. www.smays.com/tag/brush-with-near-greatness/ I think you'd want either a) a subject of very broad interest, or b) have some compelling personalities. People who are interesting/entertaining, regardless of the topic.
LHP #2 is on Obesity. Dr. D surprised me by suggesting that most really obese people simply cannot get the weight off and keep it off. A good show as I recall.
*One minute of bliss* If you had to pick your last minute...
according to Soylent Green you get to pick your last 15 minutes.
...I'd go for just getting out of the saddle, so to speak.
*An hour of video using the time-lapse feature on the iPhone 6 boils down to 30 seconds*. A pretty cool effect. This is my local coffee shop (Coffee Zone) between 7-8 a.m. today. If you watch closely you might see someone's breakfast get knocked over and cleaned up. That's Jordan behind the counter. I'll try to be a bit more creative with this in my next effort.
I like that. Lots of things to look at. For example, the pastry case on the left. Or the tip jar.
None so blind as those who will not see.
As I get older, these videos feel like real-time. I constantly wonder where that last hour went.
Perhaps that "my life flashed before my eyes" phenomenon is just God playing with his iPhone.
*More play with iPhone slo-mo* I've been looking for opportunities to play with the new slo-mo feature in the new iPhone and this morning I grabbed a few minutes of the homecoming parade of one of our local colleges. Everything looks sort of cool at 120fps. czcams.com/video/nRg7zSDOt1c/video.html
Nice. Does it also do time-lapse?
It does, although I have not had an opportunity to play with that. To get a good result, I think one would need a tripod and a fair amount of time. I will post some sort of time lapse example this week.
I'm still on the fence about getting an iPad Air 2. It's camera does those cool things too.
I have an iPad but it is just never seemed a very convenient device for taking photos
BTW. I edited the little clip above with iMovie on the phone.
_“He’s a journalist and I’m a politician and if you’re a journalist then you don’t make friends with politicians. You keep your distance because you have to be objective and you have to be willing to ask questions that you know is going to irritate them.”_ I mentioned previously that my long-time friend (and former colleague) Bob Priddy will retire in a month or so, after 40+ years covering the Missouri legislature (and the rest of the state for that matter). U.S. Senator Clair McCaskill spoke at Bob's retirement dinner this week and it's about a fine a tribute as one could ask for.
Here's a funny bit from the tribute video showing Bob's disgusting work area: czcams.com/video/NnrekSawQSc/video.htmlm
Dislike flying but enjoy the view.
Me too, any more.

Ok.
Thanks You. We just lost our golden retriever on 03/15/2014 .She was 15 years old. She was 6 weeks old when we got her. We missed her so much. May peace be unto U !
I made this (with a service called animoto) four years ago. I don't think I ever posted here. The video quality isn't that great but you can see that I got a nice finished product with zero effort. Tossed in some stills, a video snippet, picked a theme and hit GO. If the service is still around, you might want to give it a try. (I believe I stopped using because of the price. Free version pretty limited)
While searching for video of my friend Charlie Peters, I came across this bit of foolishness from about 10 years ago. If I shared it here I can't find it. Please let me know if you've already seen this in my stream and I'll pull it. I shot this on a Sony camcorder in the engineering shop of the place I worked. It was intended to convey my admiration and affection for the engineers who kept things running, including Charlie (3:33). I rehearsed this by drinking four Buds and got it one take. No edits.
I'm flattered. Unless you're thinking of me for the part of the pervy guy who hangs out in front of the Seven Eleven scratching his ass. I can do pervy but probably too old for the role. And I'm impressed to know someone who directs music videos. Have you done other we can see? That's pretty cool.
*You booked me where... doin' what?!* Most radio guys (I’m talking pre-1990) have lots of “Brush With Near Greatness” stories. I know I do. Some famous or almost-famous celebrity or performer they interviewed back-stage or who came by the station. Shoot, it’s a big part of why most of us got into radio. My new pal Gaylon Watson recalled interviewing Rocky Marciano. Marciano was the World Heavyweight Champion from September 23, 1952, to April 27, 1956. Marciano is the only person to hold the heavyweight title and go untied and undefeated throughout his career. I find this story noteworthy because Marciano was reduced to refereeing cheesy professional wrestling matches at the VFW in Kennett, MO. I can only assume he beat the shit out of his agent.
I don't think I knew you could create a PDF within Google Drive. -Can you tell me how you do/did this?- Found it. Will give this a try. Damn, you're right. Never cam up for me because when I create a document in Google Drive/Docs, that's as far as I go. Any PDF is a file I uploaded to drive. Not sure when I would ever create a doc, save as PDF, and then upload that new file to drive/docs.
It's a great feature but strangely doesn't work with PDFs created within drive itself????
