Attention English speakers: The Norwegian and Danish interview sections require that you turn on the English (US) Closed Captions. This film investigates the legendary viking ship! A well-known, well-investigated topic, the film approaches the subject as a whole and in very selective detail, as a detailed look at the whole spectrum of viking-period ships would require a couple of feature-length...

It's been a while! Trust me, I've missed you. In a walk through the woods, I'll you a little about the progress, why this channel has been silent for the last few months. In this update, I pay a visit to the Kongsberg silver mines and talk about the subject of my next history short film; Denmark-Norway. Its a fascinating period of Norwegian history that has been since the 19th century, been marginalized and undertold. I hope to show you some of the complexity of the enterprise of the people and monarchs that was the twin kingdoms of the 17th to 18th century.

What a remarkable site. I have no doubt the archangel Michael resonated well with the Germanic warrior ethos. The ironwork art on the main door of Roglösa church in Sweden seems to have a depiction of Thor in battle during Ragnarök but with the wings of Michael. (although this is somewhat speculative based on the lack of fidelity in the figures)
So well done as always. The colonial era of Scandinavia is something I'd love to see more media explore.
Wow this is such an amazing site. Thank you for making this video. Southern Norway is such a wonderful place to explore and very windy! I had no idea about the Mølen burial mounds until this.
I have the same flashlight!
Fascinating! Thank you so much! I didnt realise the connection between St Michael and the locations of churches dedicated to him were built. Looking forward to the next episode. Regards from Australia, Andy
Thank you so much from Australia- that was super interesting. Have there been any excavations to see what is inside those mounds? Looking forward to the next episode. Regards, Andy
I believe there have only been very limited excavations, one in a ship setting that found iron fragments that could be dated to the early iron age.
Let's reunite Norway and Denmark. The Swedes can stay outside.

So the building at about 14 minutes is back in Norway now, in Orkanger where it once was made. And the Museum in Little Norway is as far as I know closed.
Yes, I don't think Scott managed to keep it going. I made a video on Thamspaviljongen in Norway too.
You started off mentioning a river. You sure you're not actually referring to a fjord?! There are not many rivers in Norway. Both my parents ancestors came from Norway.
I mention Numedalslågen which is a river in Norway.

Utrolig interessant film ❤
So interesting to see. I am a mexican born in the Mexico-US border, so I am no stranger to the mainstream US culture and ways, but when I first visited the northern part of the US, like North Dakota an Minnesota, I started seeing so many people that looked norweigan to me. Just a week ago I visited Minneapolis for a short stay and saw several references to vikings and Norway, so I started googleing and was shocked to understand why I thought that in the first place. After finding out that deep rooted connection, then I found this film. It's great it incorporates the producers' live opinions; as someone who has been in several countries and continents, I have had similar cultural shocks like the ones they (and probably the scandinavian ancestors) had; this country is still a very separate thing of the rest of the world. This material also pictures the reality of living in the US: In social studies we say "it's not good or bad, it just is", and the film pictures that sense of ownership which is practically the core of the "american" culture: owning stuff, in darker cases owning people, and even owning a culture or tradition, not meaning you are living it or even incorporating it to your daily set of values. Very interesting to watch!
Veldig bra, god innføring i båtbygging som vi ikke-kyndige har glede av.

Excellent job making this video happen! I am fascinated by this craft!❤
It was so funny when the old man put his arm around his wife as a way of saying "Shut up!! Let the men talk!" Lmao
I forgot how great this video is. From the production, to the writing, to the interviews, just all around brilliant.
Thanks!
If you want to know where to go, you have to know where you come from. We take all of todays knowledge and skills for granted but forget that it has been a long and hard way to gather all this. As the old Goethe said: "We think us so high and great and forget that we are standing on the shoulders of giants." Thank you for this great video.
This is SUCH a good video, DAMN (Comment for the algorithm baby)
Nice video 🎉
It is so great to have you back now moving from Stave churches to ships. It was the middle of the night here in Australia so I missed your Q&A session. Please more videos! When I visit Denmark once every 2 or 3 years, I spend lots of time at the Viking Ship Museum in Rosekilde. I enjoy sailing on the crinkler ships built there and watching the workshops where the ships are built. I can feel history reborn in front of my eyes. Thank you for including the Danish and Norwegian interviews. As an aside, are you going to make a series of videos following the build of the new Viking museum in Oslo? Warm regards from The Antipodes, Andy
Thanks Andy! I might make a trip there as a video when it opens!
@NorthernHistory that would be truly exciting! Looking forward to it and more broadcasts from your channel soon.
nice video
Excellent filmmaking! Have you been to visit the viking ship build (klåstadskipet) at Sundvollen in Hole kommune? All the best, Lucas.
Nope! But I will go one day as part of a video.
Thanks for all the questions. Stay tuned for Northern Journeys!
Nice work. If central and Southern Europe keep moving right and the Nordic countries stay Centrist/Left-Centrist - who knows - there might still come a time for the mothballed Nordic Union.

Where can I look at the VR representations of the city of the past? Found it: oslohavn1798
Quite a few omissions and misrepresentations in this rather “norwegian nationalistic” angle on history.
I quite explicitly state on the video (and on this channel in general) that Nordic history is told from a Norwegian point of view. Nationalism is unavoidable because you somehow have to capture the mood in how modern Norway was born out of the union of the two kingdoms.
They were Germans , they were all in with the nazi
