Hello from New York City! Please join me to explore the most exciting city in the world, mostly by car, sometimes on foot We occasionally will venture into other cities as well.

Yes. I spent 4 years in SH and 13 years in BJ. In my time it would take many more hours to travel by train. HSR is amazing

I noticed the ride in this video finished near Rural Rd in Tempe, less than 2 miles north of where a Waymo was captured in video (in a May 2024 post on X) as going the wrong direction into oncoming traffic at 3910 S. Rural Rd in Tempe after a left turn out of a shopping area. Any thoughts? Wouldn't you think that Waymo would have the lanes marked correctly in their maps before then (about 5 days ago)? If they did, does this mean this was some form of insanely aggressive driving by the Waymo computer? Have you made any plans on what you will do, if your Waymo zooms off straight into oncoming traffic? BTW, I can see how Waymo is responding. Their support asked the poster if they could DM him, in what looks like an attempt to get his video off the Internet ASAP.

@@NYC16888 I understand. Waymo normally have been very good, and it is impressive when everything goes as planned, as it did for your ride. Surprisingly, though, they did have a frightening incident about 1.9 miles south of where you got in a Waymo at the Moxy hotel. You can basically tell people that you road a Waymo near S Rural Rd, while another Waymo (turning left or northbound on S Rural Rd) drove right into three lanes of oncoming southbound traffic). I think it drove in wrong direction of travel for about 8 seconds and there was no accident, but it is frightening video to watch. I'm not sure why a Waymo did that, but two possibilities are: (1) the lanes of S Rural Rd were mislabel in the Waymo maps, or (2) because the northbound lanes and central turning lane (3+1=4 total) were filled with stopped traffic at the time, and, possibly, the Waymo computer located in the trunk of that car determined that it was okay for the car to travel into oncoming traffic, so long as it could merge back in after getting around that stopped traffic. Since the only thing Waymo support has done publicly since then is to try to exchange DMs with the poster on X who shared the video of this incident, then we really don't know. Anyway, glad it worked out okay for you and your ride. Obviously, it shoes Waymo is starting to goof up, especially relate to incidents (like one in SF involving unicycles) where they are aggressively and dangerously driving on the wrong side of the road. They need to slow down right away on that, or it looks like there will be serious accidents soon. Human drivers simply aren't ready to confront Waymos (or any cars) driving in the wrong direction on 6- or 7-lane roads like S Rural Rd in Tempe.

Did some research. Maybe you are watching on a non-hdr monitor? Web says: HDR video can appear darker on a non-HDR monitor due to the difference in how a display interprets HDR and SDR signals. HDR (High Dynamic Range) has a higher dynamic range of 17 stops, which is close to the human eye's 20 stops, while SDR (Standard Dynamic Range) has only 6. HDR can also use the full color range, but most SDR applications are designed to only use the sRGB color gamut, which can cause images to look de-saturated.
