Estimating My Italian Comprehension Level In Real-Time
zhlédnutí 30Před 4 měsíci
Since this is my second time studying Italian, I decided to assess my comprehension levels using the framework suggested by @Refold refold.la/roadmap/stage-2/a/levels-of-comprehension Blog post about my first time studying Italian: joeprevite.com/relearning-italian
There is a simple way to test comprehension. Just do some CILS and PLIDA listening exams online, there are a good amount of them. B1 is not enough for real world comprehension, need at least B2, but really in my experience with Italian C1 listening exams are much more realistic and you have to know at least refold level 5 to get a good score (sure maybe you get 1/7 wrong but they are meant to be tricky). If you are guessing at all on a B1 or B2 exam, there is still a long way to go. They become very easy (other people who don't speak a language yet can look up English B1, B2, C1 exams to get an idea of the complexity.) I would call when listening to native content (not content for learners) ... C1 is refold level 5, B2 is refold level 4, and B1 level 3. C2 you'd be in that level 6 phase. I think B2 is a good place to start speaking, if you can do well on a B2 listening exam, time to start if you haven't and progress will be rapid. At least that is roughly what I did and it worked well.
First, thanks for taking the time to share this! I didn't know about the CILS or PLIDA exams. That seems like a very easy way to test comprehension and see where you're at. B2 does seem like a great place to start speaking. Even just searching youtube, you can find some examples of CILS tests. Might have to try one for B1 and B2 and see how I do. Thanks for sharing!
buena idea :D quiza yo debería hacer lo mismo! También me he dedicado a escribir software y bearblog es lo que he querido por muchos años para realizar un blog... un blog sin demasiado css y js, gracias por mostrarmelo

Nothing improves vocabulary like reading
Do you think it improves active vocabulary though?
How many languages do you speak?
Fluently? English and Spanish. Taking it slow with Italian, but in college, I studied Portuguese, Italian and some Mandarin.
10,000 sounds scary until you break it down, I like this idea alot, I think I'll try it out
Right? It's funny too because when I told a friend about it, he was like "WOW! 10k is a ton!" but 333 per day...might be able to knock out in 15-20mins if you have a topic chosen already. If you do, let me know how it goes!
I'm new to language learning. Where can I get the 1k deck?
If you want the one I got, you can get it here: refold.la/decks

Joe, great video, keep it up! Glad you popped up on my feed! I’ve spent the last 15 years studying languages and majored in college in Arabic and French then lived a few years in Italy and poured myself in to learning Italian really heavily. Do a few videos on LingQ to help with your 500 hours of input. Best resource I’ve ever used for language learning- it’s really more of a language learning “environment” once you really dive into it. Good luck!
This is money.. So many times i'm hustling or trying to find a way to get my reviews in so I don't lose my streak. This just solved it all right there. I wonder if the streak accounts for "the day you advanced' on the heat map/tracker? Regardless this is great.
Same!! I learned this trick from the folks at Refold. Good question...I'm not sure 🤔 I assume yes, but you'll have to try and let me know.
hi joe, im glad your video popped up on my youtube home page feed great video, 1000 words is impressive. why did you choose to have spanish/italian flash cards as opposed to english/italian? how's your spanish level? keep us updated! looking forward to your progress i'm learning Russian now on Pimsleur
Me too! I did Spanish/Italian because it meant I'd be using my Spanish to learn Italian, which feels like double-dipping. And it worked really well! I have another channel with me speaking Spanish here: www.youtube.com/@joseprevite I haven't uploaded in a bit but that should give you a rough idea.
This is awesome! How do you see how many words you know inside of anki? And two could you please make a video on how to do reviews a day in advance? That would be so helpful for my heavy travel days!!
If I remember correctly, it's the Anki add-on called More Overview Stats 2.1". That will give you these nice stats! Totally! I could probably record a short this week or next. Keep an eye out!
You know I will! You’re awesome man!!
Finally made it! czcams.com/users/shortsICITxBWfpVk?feature=share
