OIL LEAKS!!! Jenna's Buick Skylark likes to leave its mark
I put that mod on my 98 Silverado a few years ago. It's super easy and well worth the time. It made a huge difference in the ability to see when driving at night.
She's a sweetheart. I noticed her 71 Skylark has a 70 grill. cool
Like your attention to detail and cleanliness. Good job, thanks for your video
Just found your channel looking for new TA Performance videos. Great job on the video's. I guess I should watch the rest of them to get current. I did notice one thing that Tim at TA told me when I was ordering parts and that is if you use the new intake manifold gasket style and remove the valley pan that you need to modify parts of the old valley pan or they sell a lifter cover modification to keep oil where it needs to be? Hopefully they shared that information with you with the new manifold gasket set. Thank you 👍
Do you have to hook up the vacuum line on the regulator that goes to intake
Yes.
Great video!! Can't wait!!
How did the rails hold up, any leaks or anything?
No leaks so far. I even switched to Bosch 210 injectors and still no problems
@@Dragracetherapy thank you for the video and quick reply man! Life saver!
@@1sicz28 thanks for watching!
Times would have been nice. What's the point
Agreed. Unfortunately limited funds didn't allow for thousands of dollars in camera equipment and telephoto lenses to zoom in on the score board a quarter a mile away. So we did the best we could with what we had. However, I'm glad you enjoyed it enough to leave a comment. Thanks for watching 😊
Hope you don’t mind I’m gonna borrow that same concept and build exactly what you did
No, not at all! Thanks for watching!
Where does the crunch sleeve go
Between the inner and outer pinion bearings
Where did you get the timingchain cover and waterpump from ? Do you have the part number?
everything came from www.taperformance.com There's two different water pumps depending on your application. We would recommend giving them a call to make sure you get all the right parts. Thanks for watching!!!
Awesome!!!!
Gonna be bigger and badder this year!
Excellent video
Thank you!!!
Do yourself a favor and get the Ratech Smart Sleeve 11001. It's worth the $11. I keep a couple on hand just because. Nice video, you do good work.
Hi.. Did the one relay do both headlights ?
Yes sir
Thanks for getting back to me.. Cheers
Did you put that 454 in yourself?
No that was a factory option in '91
Great Job, and you explained it Perfectly.
When did Tom Wagner’s ‘69 Wildcat run?
Hey so stupid question... I just bought an 88 and I'm not sure if the lights are both burnt out. I've never had a vehicle that has a strange button setup for the lights instead of a lever. How do you turn the high beams on 😂
Of all the gm trucks I've been in that were in this year range, it was always pulling the turn signal lever towards you. I would check the easy things like fuses and light bulbs before diving further into it
thank you for the videos
Thank you for watching and commenting!!
I like the show, but have alot of questions concerning your car and why you chose a Buick Gran Sport, or elected to build one anyway. I come from a Buick heritage and family, and am just starting to build a 1966 Skylark, I built one years ago, but certainly didn't have the money to modify the engine and don't really have it now,but I am determined to get it built and slightly modified for a restomod for the street. Good luck and keep up the videos and keep the car, they are very special and very fast for what they were.
Thank you for watching the channel. I wouldn’t say I chose my Buick, it chose me. Back in 2017 after my father passed away I went on a search for his 72 Pontiac lemans with no success, but in the search I came across this 71 Buick skylark. After seeing pictures of it I couldn’t get the car off of my head. I couldn’t have stopped myself even if I tried from going to see it in person. The minute the guy fired the car up, that was it, the car had to come home with me. This may sound crazy but it felt like my father was telling me to buy it like he guided me to the car. Over the course of time I’ve slowly fixed and repaired things to the car. I have not rebuilt the motor yet, just some minor repairs here and there. Rebuilding the motor for me is a struggle as well, due to the high cost. I would lie if I didn’t say I have struggled with thoughts of LS swapping it. But for know I’m just working with what I have until I can save up to make her go faster. 66 is an beautiful year skylark. I love their body style. Good luck on your build. Would love to check it out. Do you after the Buick Nationals in Kentucky?
True love! Fanning him with the door
Awesome! Working on turning my 71 Skylark into a 11 second car. Had the chance to race at South Mountain. Cool track!
What year and what car did this transmission come out of? I’m asking because in my area I see cores for sale all day and I want to buy a few and build them. TH400 Chevy the ones to get? What do I look when looking to buying one?
Loving this series! Hard to find people working on 455 buick engines on here in detail like this. Keep them coming.
What to do if you didnt mark the bearing caps and dont remember their orientation? Great video btw!
You could try to assemble it with nothing but the Carrier and bearings/shims installed. Tq the caps and see if it spins freely and smoothly. If not try a different cap orientation. Worst case scenario is to take it to a machine shop and have it line honed
@@Dragracetherapy great idea!
Great job! Wish I could have made it this year but living 2,500 miles away creates problems. I was a member of the GSCA very early - member #213. Took my brand new '86 GN to the Nationals when they were basically laughed at...until I started beating some big blocks. Who knew back then what that little V6 was capable of? A GS owner for 45 years...had lots of them. Current car is a '66 GS with a 464 Stage 2.
I’m wanting to make a lot of power with my 5.3 ls 80lb injectors & a single turbo, will these fuel rails hold up with my setup?
Stage 1 valve head, you can tell by the valves almost touching each other, doesn't look like the valves are unshrouded though like factory stage 1, it looks like stage 1 valves were added 😎
You are correct!!! Email us with your info to dragracetherapy@gmail.com and we will get a shirt to ya!
"Promo sm"
throw away or weld those axel tube clamps. If you make any power at all they will slip constantly.
As a 71 Skylark owner, I love the way you showcase these great cars. Jenna's Skylark is really going well.
You go girl
My favorite channel
hey bud i had the samething happend to my pinoin chipped the end tooth off , did you still use that gear or did you replaced it, i noticed that it dosent contact anything on the where pattern.
I opted to replace it. Would it have been a problem? Hard to say. But I tend to error on the side of caution, as opposed to the "just send it" mentality
Love the channel. Can't wait to see more. Keep them coming.
Thank you!!
... EXCELLENT Job and Explanatory Information. I'm VERY happy that Mr. BOOSTED_JROD knows His_Stuff, and you both are on the Right_Track. During the Video, I was thinking that you probably would need to Raise the Idle on the new Holley_950 Carburetor after the 3000-3200_Stall Torque Converter Install like I had to do. My Idle was @ 400_RPM lower after my 9.5_Inch 3000-3200_Stall Converter was Installed. Keep up the excellent work, and God Bless and Deliver you both as well as your Family and friends. 💯🙂👍🏼🎬
Love the music and the content. Thank you.
Thank you!!!
I'm a little new to drag racing and one of the difficult things for me has been finding the right convertor...gone through 2 off the shelf that were just plain terrible. I'm having one custom built right now so I have pretty much gave up the month of July. My problem was the opposite according to the convertor guy..not enough and the car was just so lazy for the first 150 ft or so. What do you think of the price of tranny fluid ?...I thought I might have to remortgage the house.
Trans fluid, engine oil , coolant.. it's all expensive anymore lol...
Awesome!!
Are those ls1 injectors
Those injectors at that time were the Siemens dekka 80lb injectors
This is all modified stuff, simple, clean, and useless. I need to know how that mass of wiring that is jammed between the engine, bellhousing, and firewall goes back together on an '89 K25.
Then I'd buy a service manual for a 1989 k25... Installation of a th400 into a G-Body is...to use your words... USELESS
@@Dragracetherapy The manual says nothing, just reinstall.
Awesome I’m had to hear the boost and the safe stopping is a plus lol
Glad to hear the boost
Great day at the track for you guys! Solid runs, I think the intake swap may hurt the 60 foot unless matched with a bigger cam.
I looked up the factory wiring diagram (I have a 94 Suburban) to figure out how to do this without the kit. Figured it out (I am an electronics engineer). According to the diagram, this looks like it will work (I haven't done it yet because I don't have the quick-splice connectors yet, but I did verify that the wire colors are as shown in the factory diagram, so I have no reason to believe it won't work)... Where the high-beam switch is on the steering column (it's down pretty low, very easy to access) you'll see 4 wires going to the connector to the switch. 1 yellow (this is the power that is provided by the headlight switch), 1 tan (this goes to the low-beam lights), and 2 green (one is for high beam lights and one for the high-beam indicator light in your dash cluster). To do this same exact mod without the relay, you just splice the yellow (hot but only when headlights are on) and the tan (low beams) with a wire shunt between them. You can use 2 quick-splice connectors to eliminate the need for stripping and soldering and taping and all that. Anyhow, simply connect a piece of appropriate wire (like what is it, 22 gauge?) to connect the yellow with the tan. That way, whenever there is power supplied to the circuit (yellow, via the headlight switch), the low beams are always energized regardless of the state of the high-beam switch. Another benefit of this mod is that the lights will not momentarily blink off when you switch from low to high or vice versa, which is how the high-beam switch normally works (break before make). And if the high-beam selector switch ever breaks, you'll never lack at least your low beams since they are now bypassing that switch.
Just did the mod and verified it works. I modded the quick-connect splicer (18-14 AWD, found at AutoZone) by drilling out the plastic plug that is intended to terminate the end of the butt joint; this way I could use the splicer to join 2 parallel wires without any need for a 3rd wire between them. So it was even simpler than I first imagined. Just loosened up a bit of the black tape and clamped the splicer to join the yellow and tan wires together.
Thank you for sharing!
I have an 8.8 that was recently rebuilt. But, when you let off the gas, there is a loud howl. Its quiet otherwise. What is causing this? Backlash or pinion preload error? Or something else?
Generally, That's pinion bearing related. It's possible the bearing preload wasn't set up correctly, or it's just a failed part. Could be carrier bearing, but in my experience I would definitely investigate both pinion bearings to start.
Supposedly, it got all new bearings, races and gears. But, maybe wasn’t professionally assembled.

Great video, seeing so many fast Buicks encourages me to get working on my 71 Skylark! Nicely done.
Thank you! Definitely get out there and get that skylark in shape! We'd love to see it!
Cool! Some of the new electric cars are fast, but they'll never have that sweet sound! The blue Buick is bad-ass!
Off into sunset? Man it doesn't get any better!
No it doesn't!
