They were doomed from the start. Just because you can have kids doesn't mean things won't break down. Even if they were alive when they reached the planet, they have no engines so they'd either smash into it or go sailing past it.

It's really one of the best hard SF movies ever made. I was a bit disappointed that traditional religions were not represented, only a sort of New Age sex cult and meditation group. I am certain that Christianity will stand the test of time. In that faith, it is not tragic to die because one goes to Heaven.

Wow this movie is dark and reminds me why never giving up is important. Passengers and the 100 a film and a tv series both with humans traped on a ship for posdible forever yet Passengers accepted their fate and created a life. While the 100 never gave up and eventually returned to the ground. While this film the people gave up slowly killing themselves until their was hardly anybody left to maintain the ship making it only 24 years thats dark.
