The first wave . UK Punk 45s I bought Part 1 1976 - 79. A snapshot of rare music history.

UK Punk singles I bought, some on their first day of release, through 1976 - 77 - 78 - 79. part 1 - The first wave of bands. I was 16 years old. My sister was training to be a nurse and lived in a flat off Ladbroke Grove in London. When visiting, I was lucky to pick up the early first releases from vinyl shops in the area including the original Rough Trade shop. The list is roughly in the order...
Ghosts - mike bears

The Ghosts we leave behind as we watch time fade away.... seems like yesterday.
Eliza Hill - A Cornish Story - The Gerrans Collective
zhlédnutí 50Před 3 lety
Eliza Hill; the young girl on the headstone and laid-to-rest in a family grave, was the inspiration for this song. She died in 1866, only 22-years-old and her Daughter aged 2 followed in 1868. The bare-bones of the song were written and recorded in a converted Chapel House in Gerrans, Cornwall and most likely the place she too attended as a young girl. All their names are a piece of stone. Anna...

The State of the Union - mike bears with the rebel choir
A decent honest appraisal for a change instead of the usual hipster liars, well done👍
You must have been young in 1976 if you’re 61 now in 2024
I want to hear the songs entirely
Spotify or Amazon music perhaps?
i write from Italy... i'm an old 65 years man... i was 18teen in 1977 and i have the large collection of punk records (singles and albums), in particular of SEX PISTOLS...i have see in your lot of singles one copy of A&M "God save the Queen".it's a reproulike mine or it's original?
Great times, music today is dead
casually showing an A&M God Save The Queen there wow nice collection :))
My thoughts exactly, just brushed it aside! truly the holy grail of 7’’ vinyl, rare as rocking horse s**t, one sold for £15+ grand not so long ago
The Saints were so gooooooood
coloque os discos do tempo de antimente eu adoro?
I had all these ,, Bought on the day of Release as Well . BUT in 1991 I got Burgled and they Took the Lot . I won't Swear BUT did they know The Sentimental Meaning of Each and everyone of those Records . Once a Punk, Always a Punk . I'm now Crippled, In a Wheelchair and 64 yrs Old , BUT I Still Listen to Punk Music .
Let it Roll! ✌🏻😎💥
This pains me! All my early punk rock singles were stolen by some smack junkies in a squat here in Amsterdam....
Mint!
That a and m god saves the queen is mega rare great collection

Nice little collection you got there. I have a few of them myself. I was most impressed with the Buzzcocks single with Howard Devoto. I have the 12 reasons vinyl with Howard Devoto on it. Still play them all.
Good very good more than good
Complete Control is such a fantastic jam
It was a very powerful song live.
That was the only Buzzcocks record with Howard Devoto. He left after that and formed Magazine. Pete Shelley took over as lead vocalist and guitarist
NICE, Mike!
Ill give you a score for that god save the queen a&m mate. But seriously, how did you acquire a copy as it wasn't released. I knew a guy who claimed he sent a postal order to a&m and they sent him a copy. Never saw it though. Probably spoofing.
Nice, severe memory jolt there! I wish i still had my picture sleeve 45 for Orgasm Addict by Buzzcocks.
Very cool, got about 75% of them myself. Bored Teenagers, what a b side that was!!!! Oh, Bondage probably my favourite punk single ever. Thanks for sharing.
If the Neat Neat Neat has a push out centre it's much rarer than the solid centre edition 🤘🤘🤘🤘
These are worth a mint now, especially the A&M release of God Save The Queen.
Great selection fella
A lot of punk had a distinct reggae flavour to it & I hate reggae.
Someone probably stole my import punk singles. I had those two Damned singles at the end. Also XTC and Jam picture sleeves.
Pistols$$$
Love the stories for each single, really makes a difference 👍
*I also remember the EXTREME danger of going to original punk shows. Stabbings, shooting, stranglings ... ... and that's NOTHING to when the venue might of wither collapsed or else burnt down. Hectic times*
A real trip down memory lane . I’m sure Identity was pink vinyl . Also I’m surprised you don’t have Orgasm Addict by Buzzcocks with picture sleeve , also Autonomy . Public Image with newspaper sleeve was 1978 , Hong Kong Garden by SATB , Sweet Suburbia by Skids on white vinyl , Slaughter & the Dogs 12” Where Have All The Bootboys Gone plus early stuff by Chelsea , Cortina’s etc . Still a great video though , brings back great memories.
I do have some of those, I just grabbed a few from the early days. I’m not a collector just a music fan.
I'm jealous - and to see you got Identity - an absolute gem, I don't know what to say. It represents years of engagement in a thrilling period in music. Kudos.
Nice to see again 🙂 Exciting time for music 👍
1st wave was the only good one.
Really cool video and I loved seeing all of those Original Singles, really love all of The Clash Records as well as X-Ray Specs!
'oy, Mike, We're the same age, yet I, a staunch Midwesterner (USA) came from a different culture. I imagine most other of my pleb brothers set the standard at ' Zepplin before a slow decay to factory labor, problem drinking and Lynyrd Skynyrd. I got a friend arrested trying to sneak in to a show, although, I can boast of strong arming my way into an original Who concert just on a street urchin's whim ... We never knew Jack about Punk (yet Belushi died for our neglect). I can recommend "Riot". written by my dear North Country friend and mentor. Subsequently, it was banned in Britain. Written in Bristol, early '80's, Riot was a ska flavored tome of migratory tension and unrest ... oops! Turns out they did.
Love this video! Amazing collection!
WoW 😲😲😲👍👍👍 Fantastic collection !!!
Great collection
Brit Punk Rock from 77-78 's the Best. Sex Pistols Forever.
When Punk first appeared it was actually quite scary and exciting.
of course it was because it was prison rape
Nice... And this guy at least doesn' t talk too much !
What a great collection, have you any Johnny thunders records
Thanks 🙏 I’ve not got any Johnny Thunders but I’ll have a listen. I’m not a collector just a music fan.
Man, that is a killer stack of 45s....love it, if u got more please show✌🎸
Holy fuck
That’s either a good or a bad reaction…. 😅
An interesting clutch of punk singles there, Mike. I had a few of those- nearly all gone for 50p to a dealer as I recall. The Stranglers 'Walk on By' was in fact given free with the first few thousand copies of 'Black & White' LP. Yours is not purple but described as beige and thus very collectible.
Believe it or not Walk on By was actually issued with the first 75000 copies of B&W just goes to show how big record sales were in the 70s. Choosie Susie was released as a freebie with Rattus Norvegicus I think with the first 15000 copies
@@TheFairway8 I believe you're right. I seem to recall they issued an 'official' version of 'Walk on By' with Dione Warwick's head superimposed on Hugh Cornwell's body on the picture sleeve. Very eerie. I had 'Mony, Mony' and 'You better Believe Me' by Celia & the Mutations too.
@@brucevair-turnbull8082 yeah that's right the official release was as you say
Ah you’re right it must of arrived with my black and white album. I love the stranglers. I got to meet JJ Burnell when we played live at the roundhouse theatre before the pandemic. The Stranglers were in the main auditorium. I was a bit starstruck as he was the reason I started playing bass.
@@mikebears1850 he's certainly a cool guy
