Sitting in at SFJAZZ
Sitting in on keys at SFJAZZ jam “new sounds in jazz” with eli maliwan
finding my way around on I miss you so by salami rose joe louis - which I had never seen or heard before but that’s what I love about jams
-
still working on taking individual good moments into a full solo where I feel I’m fully following my expressive inner direction fluently. Oh, and I’ll be working on endings. XD

It's just talk - Pat Metheny - jazz trio version at The Jazzschool Another fun one, a last-minute decision to perform it's just talk, with a bassist I had not played this with before. Definitely starting to push myself with tunes that don't sit as comfortably in my zone but that I really like.
Very Early - Bill Evans (@ Rendon Hall in Downtown Berkeley)

My rendition of Very Early by Bill Evans at the Jazzschool (March 28, 2022) in Downtown Berkeley. We had a surprise bass player but he jumped in and did a great job. I always have thoughts about my soloing but overall I don't mind this performance ;) (The audio is just a mix of watch voice memo, phone video, and camera footage, so it may not be the greatest).

Chopin Ballade No. 1 in G minor (Elkus Room, May 2018)

I decided, two weeks before graduation in May 2018, that I would hold a senior recital. Most people prepare for months, or know during their college years which pieces they will want to play. That was not the case for me. Regardless, I don't regret it. Normally, I tend toward music in which I can easily slip into and get lost in the nebulous emotional scenery (Ravel, Debussy, etc) but I found t...

Great video.. what month did you travel?
We traveled in late February!
Great Video I just took the Zephyr from Denver to San Fransico on April 24th. It was an amazing ride and journey. Its defiantly one of those rides everyone must do once in their lifetime. Im glad you both got to enjoy the amazing views and thanks for sharing.
Just got back from the Chicago to Emeryville trip (California Zephyr) and to be honest would never do it again and if I were to recommend it I would say get on in Denver the trip up to then was not much fun. We were in what they used to call the crew car, roomettes on both sides of the car so you can only look out your window not across the car. The number of cargo trains kept us from seeing a lot. The rooms are a bit worn and dirty (bring wipes to clean surfaces). On the plus the crew and food was outstanding! Beds are a bit to hard for me and the wife, a lot of stack gas gets into the car (second back from the engine) Very rough ride until Denver also and don't get me started on the constant whisle. Once in the mountains it was better but people camped out in the observation car so we only got a little time there.
For sure, it is definitely not a luxury train, though they do make the dining car a nice experience. We didn't have an issue with passing any cargo trains on our particular ride (might just be luck)! The California<-->Rocky Mountains stretch is def the most scenic part (and not so much on to Chicago).
Awesome. On seeing your video, we are planning for the trip. Please tell me which time is better. Winter, fall, or spring
I only went in the late winter, which was beautiful for the mountain passes but did cause bathroom backups at the very end! I’m not sure how it would be in the spring
beautiful shots and music!!
