Janna stated she thought it was bizarre that #1 was on display at the exhibit. Did she not understand why his fans would want to see it? She also complained there was no collaboration with her. But since she sued Stevie’s family to collect from his estate, Jimmie undoubtedly figured she wasn’t interested in collaborating with him. Why did she go to the exhibit? Was she seeking praise or recognition? When she visited there, she became angered to discover she was not mentioned anywhere, except for the coptic crosses both she and Stevie had. In retaliation, she turned her focus toward criticizing Jimmie’s arrangement of the exhibit and finding fault with it. She said it was just “stuff” and nothing denoted Stevie’s personality or virtuosity. She mentioned there were some handwritten lyrics on display, which would show his thoughts. But what would she have done any differently? She also stated “So you think you can just rewrite history”. If she thinks Jimmie intentionally omitted her name from the exhibit, she needed to understand that the exhibit was about Stevie and his musical legacy. It wasn’t intended to be about her, this time.

Chris Layton, Stevie’s drummer for Double Trouble, said in an interview a few years after this that he thought their performance of Texas Flood was “really good” and that he had fun playing with Jimmie and everyone again. He also mentioned being impressed with John Mayer, and that he thought Jimmie’s and John’s speeches were fantastic. I think this was sort of a reunion for them all-Chris had just literally arrived from Europe where he’d been touring with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Tommy Shannon had retired, Reese Wynans had moved to Nashville, Jimmie had been touring, their old friend Doyle Bramhall II had been working with Clapton, Austin native/JLV mentee Gary Clark, Jr.’s star was rising. The whole experience was emotional but ultimately positive.

Beautiful acceptance speech from Jimmie (John Mayer actually inducted SRV/DDT with a heartfelt acceptance speech of his own). For those wondering, the acceptance speeches of Chris Layton, Reese Wynans, and Tommy Shannon immediately preceded Jimmie's and can be found elsewhere on YT. I love the supportive thumbs-up that Reese Wynans gives Jimmie following his speech.

I think I have all SRV albums, and what was impressive is the SRV, on one of his live albums, talked about South Africa and Apartheid before everyone else got on that band wagon. Before his time, a legend in his own time, and gone too soon. The day my music died was the day SRV died in the helicopter crash.

  • @davidwemyss7303

I first heard and set my eyes on SRV on an Austin City Limits broadcast on public TV, I have never lost my passion for his sound ever since, my adult daughters are great guitarists in the same vein as the Vaughns. They do a family-style version of the Vaughn Brothers instrumental of passing a single guitar between each other as the number progressed. The girls' still share the blue metallic National Duo-Cone steel guitar I bought for them on their 14th b-day, they play "Life By The Drop" on my b-days, what could be better...

Thirty one years later his music means more to me each day. So much to learn still from both the brothers. Today for me I'm just going to feel the love. One thing so unique about SRV and Double Trouble is they really did get along. Unlike most of their counterparts i.e. The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac etc. So if you can read this from Heaven Stevie I just want to say "thank you" you are one of a kind. And you have a twin named Greg. He doesn't play guitar but he looks just like you. He shared your music with me. So thanks to Greg too ~ kimie

I'm convinced that he loved what he did so much that it didn't matter if he was playing for 50 people or 50,000, Stevie always put his whole heart and soul into it!
