It was cyanide but during WW2 it was not that reliable and a new pill. so many people that were in a position to take the pill to kill themselves were also advised to shot themselves as well just in case it didn't work. And yes you can still survive from a self inflected gunshot wound so it was a fail safe

This was their daily shelter. Those three guys were upstairs because they were on patrol.
Apparently the commando had only pistols when they were surrounded, and the Germans only suffered five wounded. Great sequence still.
well, at least to me its clear they did their best to get them alive. they even rush the wounded to the hospital.

They wounded 21 and killed a dozen or so, the movie is really accurate, to this day you can see the damage the church sustained on its walls

maybe antentat. I think Atentat and Anthropoid are best films about Assassination of Heydrich and battle in church.
The whole sequence is very impressive. The director's clearly channeling Spielberg when it comes to the gun fights in this film.
