Parasitic Draw Solution for 2007 Silverado IPC/DIC Circuit
This video will show you how to eliminate the parasitic draw on the IP/DIC fuse circuit in a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado LBZ Classic Diesel Truck. This solution will also work on many other GM models that have the parasitic draw problem, which, if unchecked, will deplete the battery to the point that the vehicle will no longer start.
The parasitic draw is troublesome, when the vehicle is not run for a long period of time or in the winter, when battery capacities are reduced due to temperature.
This solution avoids any permanent modification of the vehicle’s wiring. This is important for those that want to preserve the vehicle's OEM configuration and makes it easy to revert back to the original configuration in less than a minute, if one desires.
You will need some wiring skills for this job as well as a couple of tools for the installation, all of which are shown in the video. The parts needed are listed below from Amazon, as well as the cost as of June, 2024:

    I have a 2003 GMC Sierra and had this problem the last couple years but kept going the battery route (warranty through Costco), but now they’ve changed their warrant policy. So figured it’s time to figure out what’s wrong. I bought a clamp on reader and this fuse is drawing like crazy when the truck is off. The JD1912 Car Relay Harness 12V 40A 4 Pin SPST 12AWG Harness Sockets with Color-Labeled Wires for Automotive Truck Van Motorcycle Boat (Pack of 2) came with a prewired adapter with blue, black, red, and white wires. I am not an electrical person, so can you please explain why you did not use the prewired assembly and chose to use connectors instead? Secondly, after further reading, the white wire (86) is the ground, could you explain where the 87, 85, and 30 connect to? I currently have the fuse holder connecter spliced where part of it is going to the 85 relay (black), and the other part to the connected to the 30 relay (blue). The 87 relay (red) is going to the small piggy back blade fuse holder. Please let me know if this is connected appropriately and if you have any suggestions. I appreciate it.

    Question when you did this did your relay start to get warm? Even if the truck hasnt been ran.

    • @RobertMost
      @RobertMost Před 21 dnem

      No, the relay is not energized when the truck is off. It should not get warm. You can check your wiring by having someone turn the key to on, but not ‘start’. If you listen or put your finger on the case of the relay, it should click indicating that it turned on. When the person turns the key off, it should click again indicating it has changed state back to off.

    Thank you so much for this video! I have the exact truck with parasitic battery drain. I ordered the parts and installed it to find out the instrument cluster is the “draw”. I am sending the cluster out to be rebuilt. I of course found this video too late. I replaced both batteries. Cleaned all terminals. Replaced alternator. Cleaned and checked all grounds. It is crazy how much this cluster has caused other random issues. The windows would roll up 2/3’s and stop. Power mirror would readjust every time I started the truck. I have replaced window controls. Replace the mirrors. Just hard to believe the instrument cluster can cause so many issues.

    This is the best video out there in how to do this. I shopped Amazon for my Compressor, Drier/Desiccant and related a/c parts (OEM Sanden Kit from Buy Auto Parts # 60-83466RN; $285); and Serpentine Belt (OEM specs Bando # 7PIC1745; $18). I started this morning and finished this afternoon using your video, limited tools and "Shade Tree Mechanic" skills. Drier and compressor were easily accessible from bottom of the front shroud, and belt went on smoothly from the top. I don't understand people who take apart more of the car than they need to, or who struggle with things like this, or who give up and say "have a dealer do it right." These are DIY projects, and videos like yours give excellent guidance for novices like me. It's dealer quality and after I convert my old Wards air compressor into a vacuum pump, I'll use my new Amazon double gauges to evacuate and charge this 2011 Honda CRV with 134a - (plan B was to use "rent" these tools from Advance Auto). I don't know what a shop would charge me for this, but I do know that the dealer charges over $60 for the belt alone. I'll be done with this for well under $400. What ever happened to the America I grew up in, where people were gutsy enough to fix things themselves? Thanks for helping me and all of those out there who think we can do anything if we only try.

    • @RobertMost
      @RobertMost Před 4 měsíci

      Well, I’m not too familiar with those types of bars, but I do know that some handlebars have a semi-soft coating over the base metal. If yours are like that, you could possibly use a box cutter to cut out a small annular section of the coating where the bracket goes so that it may fit. Additionally, you could put the bracket over the bars and get a longer screw/bolt that tightens the bracket. The bracket doesn’t need to fully touch itself, rather, the bolt needs to simply tighten it around the handlebar . Hope that helped. :)

    Excellent instructional video. My experience was not as easy as others. My new belt was quite stiff, and had bends from being in the packaging. Things that I did differently, after first following the video instructions, without success. To gain a bit more access I removed the bracket for the power steering reservoir. Once I had the belt around all of the lower pulleys including the alternator, I placed a piece of folded cardboard (8x8 in) between the pulleys and the inner fender. Since I was working alone, I used a ratchet strap hooked to a point in front of the vehicle, to pull the wrenches on the tensioner to hold it open. I brought all of the slack to the front side of the power steering pulley, and caught the edge holding down with my hand. I then used a 19 mm socket to rotate the ps pulley counter clockwise and it pulled the belt right around the pulley!

    Help! I did everything and it works great EXCEPT the handlebar extension isn't secure like yours ...it spins and spins around the original handlebars. What did I do wrong? (I've got everything as tight as it will go)

    • @RobertMost
      @RobertMost Před 4 měsíci

      The extender that I got had small plastic inserts that are meant to do exactly what you need. Your main handlebar is evidently slightly smaller in diameter, thus resulting in the spinning you mentioned. These inserts are essentially split tubes that go on the main handlebars and thus provide the extra diameter needed to make a tight connection, when the extender is placed over them. If yours did not come with these plastic extenders, don't worry. You can also do it yourself by wrapping black electrical tape around your handlebars where the extender goes as many times as necessary to "beef up" the diameter of the main handlebar until you can get a good tight coupling of the extender. Hope that helps!
