I thought the Id Ascendant quest was oddly put there. I turned that into a mini “welcome to the setting” one-shot where they played premade characters of the class they chose for the campaign (all new/newish players) and it ended with everyone’s vision going to black and a young voice going “Dad please leave the adventurers alone, they just want a warm meal” - they later found an older gentleman and his daughter in a tavern while traveling the tentowns, and as the older gentleman asked if they wanted to hear of his greatest adventure a familiar voice spoke up saying “Dad please leave the adventurers alone, they just want a warm meal” Fun little way to still have it. Only the notetaker caught on to what I did but it was worth it

I inserted Prisoner 13 into my campaign where the players play double agents for 2 thieves guilds and I made Prisoner 13 the head of one of the guilds, so it worked great for me, but I did make significant changes.

It probably says a lot that when I look up Vecna eve of Ruin the very first few videos are about fixing it... What the hells Wizards.
Sentinel is great on my Assassin/Fighter. The attack/sneak attack it allows off turn is often valuable and adds even more flexibility when combined with Fighter's Maneuvers. That character also has Lucky and Shadow Touched. BTW, Healer feat is awesome when you don't have time for a short rest.
54:30 I'm playing a Diviner Wizard with the Lucky feat right now, and the RP flavor I went with is more like "spider sense" than "favored by a god". Hard to keep the difference between Lucky and Portent straight sometimes but I'm using the Lucky dice out of combat more often so it doesn't feel OP. Edit: Would also like to point out that in terms of replacing attack rolls made against you, it's not even as good as disadvantage because RAW you have to declare you're using the point before the outcome is determined and you have no clue what the DM rolled or the monster's to-hit modifier. If I roll a 9 and replace the roll with mine, there's a 40% chance DM rolled worse and I burned a point for no reason.
I am seeing pattern here with her play style. Heather has a habit of not deducting damage quickly like others, she waits (she should of died in the first round with the big blob., she never took off damage when she first arrived and just didnt deduct HP's when she was at 1 HP she should of already been making death saving throws. Then @ 1:31 mark she gets hit with 2 slam attacks totaling 24 HP's - reduced to half for rage would be 12 HPs taken. Fray had 18 total at start of battle, then she deducts HPs only down to 9 (Should of been 6). Eric - I understand on you letting them go, but IMO there should have definitely been a TPK here or very least one player permanently dies. It was balanced, dice rolls just went the DM way. Owell, too bad for the players (give them a tissue). It happens

Powerful feats to me are ones that either make or completely amplify a play style. In most cases it's the martial classes that benefit most. ( for spell casters honestly most feats dont do too much, even warcaster) So for me GWM SNIPER MOBILE SENTINEL POLEARM MASTER
Yeah, tho I do agree with Jason martials need a boost to keep up with spellcasters in higher levels. Lucky is still broken AF tho!
Alert feat, something missed im the discussion. the cancelling of advantage of unseen attacks, applies to be blinded or against invisible enemies. ☝️
☝️ with great weapon master, the kill/crit bonus action attack is not restricted by the heavy property. So, it has benefits for non heavy weapons
☝️ not mentioned is the worst part of the lucky feat, is the dice are rolled, you roll a third and THEN pick the dice. Meaning you give yourself super advantage on your disadvantage, and vice versa for your enemies.
Pole arm master is good for barbs to, for that bonus action strength attack gaining rage. Fun fact, the weapon is heavy, so the bonus d4 attack can also be used for the GWM master attacks, for that juicy +10dmg. -5? No worries, ill go reckless.
In a campaign i was in we had a magic challice, that acted like a healers kit, so a free heal per person per day, the d6+4+ level, was used constantly when we couldnt short rest or were out of hit dice.
☝️ sharpshooter, i have in 2 campagins personally and someone else, use the 600ft range to success. I once kept shooting at a roc flyinf away to a peak. They can only.go so far in a turn, leading to me getting off a few more shots, one of those with a snaring strike it somehow failed.... "sorry dm, how.many d6 fall damage does it take? " Epic

Looks like I have some explaining to do: 5. Keen Mind - You nailed it when you mentioned it's RP oriented and up to the DM. I think of the RP-oriented feats this is the most powerful and deserves a spot in the conversation. The majority of use is in having a narrative reason why you can ask the DM to remind you of things you may have forgotten. It can be extremely helpful in more political or espionage type games that have less combat. I respect the sentiments shared and stand by it's placement on my list. 4. Mobile - I agree with the idea that it can be situational. I've had a rogue skirmisher, a shadow monk, and a college of swords bard take it and seen it used to great effect. Similar to elven accuracy that might have a caveat or two before you can use it to it's fullest extent. The extra 10 feet of movement becomes helpful for a number of species, especially the smaller ones, and you don't even have to hit on the creature to back out--just make the attempt. Everyone has great picks and fun to listen to the opinions.

Heavy armor give the character a sinking speed. That's why he should have equipped the mariners armor

Mage armor and unarmored defense does not stack. You use one or the other. If you are wondering why the geriatric circus lady's AC seems ridiculously high, that's why. Cool character though. 🙂
Haha yes, we fixed that for the next session. Apparently they DO stack in Baldur's Gate 3!

There are rules in the DMG (277) about using oversized weapons, that boils down to what you basically said " disadvantage on weapon sized for a larger attacker" And damage dice increase by each size, so a greataxe goes med/large/huge 1,2,3 d12s. "you can rule that a weapon sized for an attacker two or more sizes larger is too big for the creature to use at all" Large Battleaxe/warhammer might be a fun idea. When medium, you can only use two handed, 2d10 at disadvantage. When Embiggened to large, can one hand for 2d8, or two handed for 2d10 unhindered. That let's Gotwald when biggied still attack one handed while grappling, which he does like to do alot.

IIRC a monster having multiattack does not automatically mean that monster can shove more than once per turn, the shove takes up the whole action. At least, that's what it is RAW. But as a DM I would love to be proven wrong! Side note: I found the volume on this really low so when the ads kicked in I was like AUGH they were so loud.
I know that grapple can replace one attack for PCs, so if you have extra attack, you could grapple twice. I assume shove is the same, but maybe not?
@@RogueWatson For PCs, yes. But for monsters apparently not, at least RAW. Something to do with the wording? Also, monsters have so many attacks compared to PCs (especially at low levels) it's probably OP to let them do it. Of course I would love to as a DM.
A Multiattack action, by RAW, is *not* the same action as the Attack action. If Multiattack were, say, a trait that gave extra attacks on the Attack action, that would be one thing. But because it's a separate action, you're limited to using your whole action to grapple or shove by default for monsters.
Do you have a suggestion to replace the fortress of Kas with a larger battlemap? Which one would you use if you were running this module?
You are correct. Multiattack and Extra Attack work differently with replacing shoves/grapples RAW. PCs may replace an attack but a monster with multiattack may not. THAT BEING SAID. DMs do it all the time and that'sa totally cool.
Subscribed. Watched every episode so far. Eric you do a great job and love the campaign. I am getting ready to run ROTFM for our group and will be implementing some of your things learned during your sessions. One thing though, Edmond's Thorn Whip is OP and broken. Ray always tries to "bend: the rules too, but he should not be able to "push" anything or "change it's direction" with a whip. He should only be able to move a creature 10ft closer. And def not be able to catch a falling player and bring him back up to the ledge.
Thank you so much! As for Edmond's Thorn Whip, I try to find that balance between Rules as Written and Rule of Cool. I'm not always successful though!
